  1. 1990LS400 appreciate the reply re the rear window shade. I spoke with Paul from Metro Lexus Toyota and he said it's a possibility that a US Lexus dealer has one in their obsolete/dead stock. Also from reading posts I think that this accessory might be available in Japan for the Japanese version of the LS400 but I am hindered by not being able to read Japanese. If any member has contacts in Japan I would like to hear from them. Four Door.
  2. My Christmas wish for the '92 LS is a factory rear window sunshade for the hot summer days. A second present for the LS is in the mail from Canada and should arrive by the 25th, a set of four factory splash guards. Four Door.
  3. MEJOJO my brother has a '93 LS400 and he says he gets a solid 25 mpg highway consistantly at any speed from 60 to 100 mph., a/c or no a/c on. My '92 LS400 does the same. Four Door.
  4. Spiller I got about the same milage on my '92 LS400 driving from Boston to Toronto, 550 miles each way on a full tank. Equal or better milage then many lighter mid sized cars. Used 93 octane unleaded. Foue Door.
  5. Just ordered a set of four Lexus splash guards for my '92 Ls400. The other must have accessory is a Lexus retractable rear window shade. If anyone has info as to where I can locate one of these window shades (new or used) please advise. These two items were listed as accessories for the 1st gen LS400. I managed to track down the set of new splash guards in Canada at Metro Lexus/Toyota, Victoria, B.C. Anyone interested in a set for their '90-'92 LS400 give Paul a call at 250 386-7541 or email the parts dept <PARTSATMETROLEXUSTOYOTA.COM>. Only about six new sets left in Canada for the 90-92. Not sure about '93 and newer. Thanks, Four Door.
  6. Purchased a used mirror to replace the original mirror on my '92 LS400 that had a couple of large chips in the paint. When I removed the original mirror and was ready to replace it I found that the plugs didn't match and realized the new mirror was from a '92 LS400 with the memory system. I'm leaning towards disassembling the mirrors and swapping the harnesses. Anyone have an idea if this is feasable or do I have to find another non memory mirror. Four Door.
  7. VMF I checked under the front seats of my '92 LS400 and no amp found, amp must be self contained in the Lexus "premium sound system" head unit in the dash. Might of seen somewhere that the total output was 180 watts. Did some adjusting of radio balance/fade/base/mid/high and overall it isn't all that bad but not up to the standards of the Nakamichi system. I'm very reluctant to having anyone screw with the electrical/wireing system and want to be very conservative in changing anything. The old saying, if it aint broke don't fix it might best apply. Might try a Sony "Walkman" portable CD player that runs thru the casette player to see how that sounds. I don't expect perfection but it might be a reasonable match for the premium sound system without going to a lot of trouble/expense to upgrade the factory system. Will post the results, Four Door.
  8. Newbee '92 LS400 owner who had the same question re "high idle" and this answers the question that all LS do it and my "high idle" is normal. I would be in deep doodoo without all the info from the forums, thanks fellow Lexus owners, Four Door.
  9. Toaster and others interested in subwoofer and amp upgrade I will check a local mobile audio shop that stocks the SAS Bazooka tubes to see if installation in LS400 is feasable and effective and report the results. Sounds like the stock amp/subwoofer if repaired/replaced with OEM parts would not sound all that great. If their is a seperate amp for the stock subwoofer I beleive they can bypass it and feed off the midrange speakers. Four Door.
  10. Case closed! My excellent used "94 LS400 16" alloy wheels arrived via UPS today. Also reviewed the Sunday paper ads/supplements and found that my local Sears Auto Center had Michilin MXV4+HR 225/60/16 tires listed for $128 each plus install/tax ($20). Called and found out they were not in stock but they had MXV4+VR tires (listed at $148 each) and Sears would sell them for the same price ($128) as the H rated tires. Total price for four Michilin MXV4+VR tires $594 and change(mounted/balanced/tax). Drove out of the Sears Auto Center and what a night and day difference from the four Michilin 15" Artic snow tires. The smooth ride, excellent handling and almost no noise was just what I expected from good quality tires. My '92 LS400 drives like new again. Four Door.
  11. VMF I have a '92 LS400 with the "premium sound system" and it is functiong ok. Would the amp for my sound system also be under the front passenger seat and do you know the output (watts)? Thanks, Four Door.
  12. Another option I might try is my old Bazooka 8" tube subwoofer thats sitting in my seller. It's an 8" subwoofer in a tube with a built in amp and crossover. The installation is fairly simple and should put out much better base then the stock Lexus subwoofer in the 90-92 LS400 equipped with the premium sound system. Four Door.
  13. Diana I have a '92 LS400 with the premium sound system, the subwoofer works but has very little base output. I saw a post that the factory sub could be replaced with a aftermarket freeair subwoofer that would have much better output and there was no mention of having to add a amp. Just upgradeing the stock speakers should make a major difference in the sound quality without getting into changeing the whole system, sounds like they want you to spend a bundle of cash. If I can find the post with the recommended freeair subwoofer I will advise. Four Door.
  14. Just purchased my '92 LS400 and it has the standard AM/FM Casette system. The sound is nothing to rave about but I'm very reluctant to change the appearance of the dash by installing a new aftermarket unit. I agree that replacing the stock subwoofer which has a very small magnet should help the base output. Any suggestions for a recommended subwoofer? Also upgradeing the four midrange speakers should make a big difference. As far as I can tell it does not have the two small tweeters or at least I can't hear them. Any idea how many watts output for the stock system? Hopefully just replacing all the OEM speakers will make a big difference in sound quality. Four Door.
  15. Thanks for all the advice re tires for the LS. My brother has Perelli P6000 (H rated) on his '93 LS400 and is quite satisfied and he's fussier then I am. I was going to get the same tires from the local dealer (Boston, Mass.) he purchased them from but they no longer carry them. It still a tough choice even after checking out all the recommended tires listed on the Tire Rack. I'm willing to spend extra money to get a very good tire for the LS. Since I plan to drive it only in good weather (spring/summer/fall), no snow/no salt/, I might check out the summer touring tires. I plan on useing my Toyota Camray to battle the winter snow, salt, slush etc. Four Door.
  16. I will have a set of four 1994 OEM 16" alloy wheels by the end of the week and need new tires. The tires and wheels will be installed on a 1992 LS400. Called a tire shop that I have done buisness with before and they suggested Michilin MXV4 Plus, $716 total four four mounted/balanced/tax. I specified the H rated tires since I want them as quiet/smooth as possible. Any other suggestions for tires?
  17. Just picked up a '92 Ls400 Friday evening and when checking out the stock AM/FM/casette system I noticed the same thing as you did that I could hardly hear the sub woofer. Checked in the trunk and could see that the speaker has a very small magnet and doubt their is many watts going to it. I think it's a lost cause to expect much out of the subwoofer and head unit. Hate to pull out the factory head unit, if nothing else it looks great. I'm thinking of installing a Lexus factory Nakamichi system with upgraded speakers. Will have to find a wreck and pull the Nakamichi head unit, amp and changer along with the plugs and wireing. Would appreciate any advice as to what I will need to upgrade to the Nakamichi system. Four Door.
  18. Thanks for the advice re the "salvage yard", years ago I picked up some parts for my ES250 for pennies on the dollar there. Any ideas as to a reasonable price to pay for used LS400 OEM 16" alloy wheels in excellent condition? Also how much difference will I notice going fron the 15" wheels to 16" wheels? The 15" wheels on my '92 LS400 are in excellent condition and I'm sure the ride would be a lot quiter and smoother with new tires, my brother has Perelli P6000 tires on his mint '93 LS400 and is very satisfied with them. Four Door.
  19. Today I purchased a '92 LS400 that just turned the big 100,000. LS is a tan/beige, excellent plus mech, exterior and interior. A heated garaged, two owner (former certified) with complete service by Lexus of Watertown (Mass.) from day one. All service and records are up to date includeing the 90,000 major service with timeing belt etc. The only "fault" is that it came with four Michilin "winter" tires and I planned on upgradeing to 16" tires and rims if I purchased a '92 or earlier. I think I got a square deal, payed $7,500. If anyone has four stock OEM '93 or newer alloy rims in excellent condition for sale at a reasonable price I would be interested in purchaseing them. Four Door.
  20. Appreciate the response to my question re wheels swap, I'm sure it will improve the overall handling and ride and understand the differnce quality tires make and plan to purchase the best I can afford. Many thanks, four door.
  21. Would stock 16" wheels from a 1994 LS400 fit on a 1992 LS400? Is it the same bolt pattern and are their any drawbacks to doing the swap?
