  1. A RWD vehicle with traction control and four snow tires will outperform an AWD with all season tires. Get yourself a set of snow tires. If you can afford it, buy a set of rims to mount them on. Remember, you need to purchase a set of TPMS sensors ($400+ extra) with the new rims, and have your dealer set them up for you. This is the best possible solution for an IS 350.
  2. You can damage your rims just from normal driving?? You can damage them if you hit something. Also,Tex2670, where did you find four tires for $200, or did I misinterpret what you said in your post?
  3. joeb427, Are your new Potenzas run flats?
  4. Use 303 protectant on the seals. Can't help you with your question about qd on the rims, but I personally wouldn't want to get a silicone based product on my brake discs. I have Zaino Z5 on my rims and it has made cleaning them much easier.
  5. I suppose it's mostly a matter of personal preference but I think the black all weather mats look great with cashmere interior. The black mats compliments the black upper dashboard. So, you have the bottom of the car all black and the middle of the car all black. I'll include some pics when I have a chance. I have the cashmere with black all-weather mats and I get compliments all the time. The all-weather mats are easy to clean and then spray with "303 Protectant" to make them look new. It's a little more work than just vacuuming regular mats but IMO they look better than stained and dirty carpet mats. The leather seats need regular attention. I use a mix of 5/1 Woolite and water. It works just fine.
  6. Thanks Sidney. Did you buy or use the Toyota filter wrench mentioned in the forum link in the reply above?
  7. This site should help: http://my.is/forums/f87/how-change-oil-350...d=1#post4014700 Thanks for responding to my inquiry. Are there any differences between changing oil in a 350 and a 250 ?
  8. I want to change the oil on 2006 Is250awd myself, can anyone provide the Toyota oil filter wrench part number specific to the vehicle? Also, are there illustrated instructions available to change the oil and filter for this model? Finally, is the wrench available at a Toyota store or must i go to the Lexus dealership?
  9. You must purchase TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) sensors for each rim for about $100 per rim and then have the dealer set them up (more expense). Good luck.
  10. Does the IS250awd use the same filter and special tool as the IS350 and the IS250. Where can I buy one?
  11. Although I continue to use Zaino, Steve is absolutely correct in his assessment of Zaino products. My wife's Luminous Gold Nissan Murano and my previous vehicle, a Liquid Silver SE-R looked fabulous using Z-2. My Matador Mica Red 2006 IS looks great, but the color has lost some of its depth. The process is a pain as I have to add the ZFX curing additive and then make sure I use up the mixture within the 24hrs. time period. Using the Z-5 to remove swirls and spider-webbing was a disappointment ( I went back to Meguiar's No. 9 ). As I said when I started this thread, Zaino still only recommends using terrycloth to apply and remove its products. This is truly old school thinking as good quality microfiber is superior in almost every way to terry. Why do I still use Zaino? Simple, it outlasts any product I have ever seen or used. My wife's Murano beaded water a full SEVEN months after proper surface prep ( the most important part of the process) and three coats of Z-2. We live in NW Ohio and I have virtually no time to spend on the cars once football season begins in August ( I'm a HS coach). I'm willing to sacrifice a liitle appearance for superior protection over the winter months. If I lived in a warmer climate where I could more easily care for the cars, I would not use the Zaino on the IS.
  12. Many thanks for your advice on this topic. I have used Zaino for almost 5 years and you are absolutely correct about the fact that a small amount is used and it is easy to apply. You have confirmed my own thoughts about this subject. One other question, what is an LSP?
  13. Anyone ever try to apply Zaino Z2 with a PC? Zaino recommends a hand application with terry applicator. I just bought a 7424 and after I prep the surface , I want to use Z2 as I have been pleased with the longevity of it. Any advice?
  14. I do not think it is that high. If so, CG would love it. If that is true about CG supplying a majority of the market to resellers, does anyone know which brands they supply and which brands are produced independently?
  15. Go on autopia and search. There are WAY to many sites, MF kinds etc. But for a mitt I use Chinamarts oine for $5; ised only for ONR. I hate towels with tags or hard edges. Thanks for the recommendation, I genuinely appreciate it.
  16. I am in the process of switching over from 100% cotton to microfiber. Which towels/mitts/applicators should I purchase and from where? What should I stay away from?
  17. Instead of replacing the carpet try to have it re-dyed. it should be less expensive. Try the dealer or a reputable trim shop.
  18. I've only detailed my car in the order recommended by Zaino so I can't answer your question. Judging by all of the feedback on this site and Autopia.com, my guess is most users do the same. The first time I used the products was on my son's bright red pickup and after 2 applications of the Z-2 he wanted to stop but I convinced him to do the last 3 steps and the results were simply amazing. As good as it looked after 2 coats, the paint looked completely wet after the third. After that experience, we both decided not to take shortcuts in the future. If I were you, I'd split your hood into 2 sections and do it your way on 1 side and Sal's on the other. You'll be able to see the difference, if any, in the shine and how long it holds up and then decide. Let me know how if works out! JDK, Your LS looks great! I also appreciate your suggestion of a split hood. Thanks
  19. JDK, I too use Zaino products and live in OH and would love to see pictures of your LS. I have found that if the paint is properly prepped (clay, swirl remover, glaze, mulitiple coats of Z-2), the Zaino gives very long lasting protection. I'm interested in the benefits of the Z-8 as I am skeptical of claims made by any manufacturer. Could you occasionally post regarding your results with this product. I was not impressed with the results of the Z-6 between coats of Z-2 and now only use it after washes or dusting to enhance the shine. TSantoro
  20. Santoro, do you have an '06 250? And did you buy it when it first came out? I had a lot of the same problems with my car, which I bought the first weekend that it came out. I replaced it with an '07, and the issues have resolved. I think Lexus has worked on these issues, and continues to. Lambo, I have an '06 and puchased it on August 31st of 2006. I'm certainly hopeful the dealer can resolve these issues for me as I only have 7500 miles on it. I have owned two Hondas and a Nissan and never had problems like these. My wife is on her third Nissan since we've been married and hasn't experienced this either. Hence, my disappointment in Lexus.
  21. My IS 250 AWD has what sounds to be a similar problem. The tranny hunts/slips between 1st and 2nd when slowing during a rolling stop. This combined with dash squeeks, rattles, and pops, occasional odd noises coming from the front end when accelerating from a full stop, and noisy brakes are disappointing for a company that touts "The Relentless Pursuit of Perfection".
  22. Great post TOGWT. A little off the subject, can a spray lubricant/ gloss enhancer (Meguiars Final Inspection) be used on fresh paint? Also, what is in these products to give them their lubricity?
  23. BigDog, Just a sidebar to your question, warming up an engine for more than about 30sec. can begin to cause unecessary wear on the internal engine parts and exhaust components. Drive the car gently to warm it up as it will heat up faster this way. Besides, allowing an engine to idle is an enormous waste of that expensive premium gas we all have to buy.
