  1. If I'm understanding you correctly...if the cylinder (and booster if necessary) are replaced and functional, the ABS can be left non-operational and the vehicle can be operated safely. You'd still have power brakes, just no ABS safety system.
  2. Friends, I've learned so much good information from all of you, a couple in particular, that I'm asking a question for my little brother on a non-Lexus vehicle. I hope that's okay (especially since this problem could just as easily be on a Lexus, but I decided not to lie and say it was a Lexi when it isn't). 95 Ford Windstar, 120K miles, engine three years old, brakes non-operational. Diagnosis from shop in Portland, OR: master cylinder gone, been leaking fluid into brake booster. Once master cylinder replaced (this is known for sure), can see if booster needs replace due to fluid leaking. Once master cylinder and booster functional, ABS might or might NOT work. Question: does this diagnosis make sense? Question: Can a car be driven with master cylinder and booster ok, but ABS non-functional? (This alone would be a $2K repair.) THANK YOU!! --mrb
  3. Replaced 1 of 2 O2 sensors and CEL has not come on since that time so I assume they are okay. Have not checked injectors (due to $$ constraints). When I have the plugs changed in the next couple weeks I'll ask them to see if the cylinders are wet (or something like that if I'm remembering correctly, to indicate a possible injector stuck open.) $2.30 a gallon...at that price I could take a bath in gasoline and not feel bad! Well...maybe not.
  4. In my continuing quest to improve the mileage on my 94 ES, I finally gave acetone in the gas tank a try. I ran nearly a full tank, adding acetone to equal 2oz. per 10 gallons in the tank. From an average over the course of the last two months (about five tanks) of 14.6 mpg, I shot up to 17.6 mpg. Same driving conditions, no other changes. I'll continue to verify over the next several tanks, but WOW!...what an improvement! Sadly, some power on acceleration has been lost, but I am willing to give a little boost up for saving $$ at the pump...this also means I get to keep the Lexi and my wife won't force me to drive our Civic instead! With gas in Chicago $3 a gallon my "but I like it better than the Honda" argument was pretty weak. Question: is some loss of power to be expected? Should I increase the concentration to 3 oz. per 10 gallons to get more fuel efficiency...I know there is a leveling off point. So, have done two Seafoam treatments (via brake booster), Seafoam in gas and oil, manually cleaned tb and maf, replaced gas cap, and increased air pressure in tires. But it was the acetone that ramped it up. I recommend it.
  5. Thanks, Gents. Now I have an excuse to learn about getting into the door panels!
  6. Searched for this answer, but couldn't find. Power windows in my 94 ES roll up and down smoothly but are slooooow, seemingly getting slower, especially fighting gravity going up. Should I worry about this, or is it normal for a 12 year old car? If cause for worry, what can I do to help them up a little!?
  7. I took the excllent advice of several here, including Toys and SK, and cleaned the MAF and TB a couple weeks ago myself with some carb cleaner, isopropanol, a Q-tip and a toothbrush and found increased acceleration, though no improvement in mpg. I recommend it, and it's easy, just don't break the MAF wires...be careful with the Q-tip. I did not remove the TB itself, so did not clean the IAC.
  8. And a quick add on to that question...is the EGR situated the same on a 94 as a 93? Thanks.
  9. This is probably a dumb question which I would never start a new post for, but on the 94 are there lights specifically for license plate illumination...bulbs I mean, that would burn out and need replacement?
  10. Poor/reduced braking ability at the right front, worn pads or sticking slider/caliper. bad front brakes, no doubt
  11. Apologies, I wasn't trying to spam anyone, just to see if owners of other models had a spare part or advice on how to get it cheaper--this part spans most of the models. I admit I did not know posting on more than one board was not acceptable as I've only been a member for a few weeks. Nevertheless, absolultely no need whatsoever to jump down my throat in public with threats of suspension. Good grief. Thanks again to GuyTelefunken for your help.
  12. This is MOST appreciated...a happy and safe two year old soon to be riding in style thanks you. :P
  13. Hello All. I am looking for the bolt, spacer and anchor bracket for a 94 ES to attach a car seat. The part number for the "CRS Installation Kit" in the owner's manual is: #04731-22012 and Lexus wants FORTY BUCKS for a bolt, a couple little metal spacers and the bracket. I can find the bolt and spacers at the hardware store (just cost me about $3), but the bracket eludes me. Anyone have one they no longer need or any ideas where I can find one for less than the outrageous price from Lexus? Most appreciated!!
  14. I had the same issue. Replaced mine for $14 and all gone. I would replace rear swaybar bushings since it is the cheapest item first. I had the exact same problem on my 94. Had the bushings and the rear stabilizer bar replaced...cost about $125 with parts and labor. Now quiet and delightful.
  15. So do you want to use these just for Mpg? Primarily yes, but I also want the engine cleaning qualities as well. Yes, though, still trying to get the mpg up from 14 city...'tis a long and interesting quest. I found several references to this BG stuff but have also had good results from the seafoam. Thanks.
  16. Thanks SK, Is it possible that even if the wrong one was replaced, and the ECU cleared the CEL would come on again? If not, would I pick it up by taking it to autozone or some place and having them plug in an OBD reader? I'm going to firebomb the repair shop if they put the wrong one in!!!! Not really, but I will be quite displeased.
  17. Seen BG 44K come up on several other boards, but a search of the ES boards hits only two mentions. Anyone with a preference on BG 44K vs. Seafoam in the gas tank? Still workin' on the mileage problem. Thanks much.
  18. "the front bank" meaning the bank of cylinders by the radiator, if so then that is bank 2. you had your mechanic replace the wrong sensor. steviej I'm so sorry for my idiocy...but can this be clarified in simple English?? Bank 1 Sensor 1 is the one between the manifold and the radiator (nearest you when you're looking into your engine standing in front of the car--you can peer down and actually see it.) Bank 2 Sensor 1 is the one between the manifold and the firewall (furthest away when you're looking into your engine standing in front of the car.) Are there Sensor "2s" for these Banks...or just the other sensors post-cat? OR...do I have this exactly backwards? I think my mechanic put a new Lexus O2 sensor in the wrong place even though ECU isn't lit. Thanks all...
  19. SK: From an old post, but short of taking them out (novice, would have to take to shop), is there any way to know if an injector is "stuck open" as you mention? 94 ES mpg is terrible, replaced bank 1 O2 and will clean tb, iac, maf sensor this weekend, and perhaps replace plugs (these all I can do). I presume sea foam thru brake booster and in fuel tank won't fix an injector stuck open-just help to unclog them? Am I correct? DO I have to remove the injectors to know this? Thanks so much...
  20. Maybe...ask the elephant in your trunk to see if it is coming out while you are driving! J/K! :D Hahaha...okay, that did make me laugh. I'll ask him.
  21. Maybe because it lowers the back of the car and decreases the wind resistance????? Interesting. Perhaps I should stuff an elephant in the trunk of my ES. Would it help boost my wallet-emptying 14mpg city? Keep me in mind folks, I'm in the process of trying every single technique I can find on these great boards to boost it...once I've exhausted everything I can do and it's still hovering around 14-15mpg I'm going to come back and ask the experts here for a miracle. How would I know if my gas tank leaks while I'm driving but not while parked? That's quickly becomming the only thing I can think of after O2 sensor replacement, Seafoam and air intake cleanings...! Not sure but it is interesting! :D Maybe because it lowers the back of the car and decreases the wind resistance????? Interesting. Perhaps I should stuff an elephant in the trunk of my ES. 22. Toys...where do I find all these wonderful videos? I keep reading about them but haven't located a link yet? Much obliged!
  23. Can't get them to unzip either, and my software is fresh. No worries, thought, but can SOMEONE confirm that the Haynes Repair Manual I need for 1994 ES is number 92007 for Toyota Camry?? It's only $17 at a local parts store. Please confirm, thanks much.
  24. I have not yet taken the IAC and other components apart to clean them individually, but the seafoam treatment has definitely made a difference in the engine, it's noticeable, some power restored, quieter, smoother acceleration. I'm going to buy a Lexus repair manual and following the cleaning steps others on this list have described in the coming weeks. From what I've read the seafoam MAY dirty up your plugs, but I think you can take them out and clean them too?
