  1. 2001 Lexus RX300 FWD 63,000 miles I bought the car in 2003 second hand from a private owner with 32,000 miles on it for $25,000. I am a 73 year old retired certified master automotive technician, I do all my own service, The car is performing great , I enjoy driving it. There are no problems at all. No rattles or squeaks. It gets 18-19 mpg City and 23-24 mpg highway. In 2006 it needed a new battery also an Oxygen sensor which I bought for about $150.00 At 60,000 miles I replaced front and rear brake pads, brake fluid and machined the rotors. Replaced all the fluids and put on a set of Goodyear Assurance Comfortred tires. I picked the Comfortred because of the ratings, especially for a quiet and smooth ride. The only thing I don’t like me is the large turning radius. I love the car.
  2. A clogged PCV Valve can sure cause oil leaks. Also make sure that there is plenty of air flow at the hose that attaches to the valve. If not, spray some carb cleaner into it while the engine is running.
  3. About two years ago my window switch started to act up. I took it off the door, sprayed a lot of WD40 into it and worked the switches for a while and the problem was solved. It still works today. If it isn't physically broken, give it a try. Karl
  4. I found a key shell cover on eBay for about twenty bucks. On mine only the cover was broken.
  5. Hi dchan865, so far so good. I just love the quiet, smooth ride of the Comfortred. Haven't had it in a lot of rain yet but it beats the Integrity by a mile. Karl
  6. Hello, I just replaced my tires with the Goodyear Comfortred and am absolutely amazed how quired and smooth they are. while I live in Florida I can't tell you how they would perform in snow. I got them at Sam's at a good price. You can check all the specs at Tirerack.com Karl
  7. Sounds like it could be a radiator cooling fan. That could give you a vibration.
  8. Hi all, I am looking for the quietest, smoothest ride in my 2001 RX300 front wheel drive, Tire size 225 / 70 / 15 The search results on the internet suggest the Goodyear Assurance Comfort Tred. The car lives in Florida and never sees snow. Has anyone here had any experience with those tires? Thanks in advance for any input. Karl
  9. Hi tealboy, when you get those Goodyear Comfortreds will you please let us know how you like them . This is the tire I am thinking of getting. I wold like to get the quietest tire possible. thanks, Karl
  10. Try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes that might clear up the problem. There is a controller in the door and that might reset it. good luck.
  11. Lenore, I am coming up on 60k miles and it's about time to replace the pads. I've been on the tire rack website and see that there are three different type of Akebono pads listed. Which ones would you recommend, the Street Performance, Pro Act Ceramic or the Ultra Premium? I am a fairly easy driver and are looking for quiet pads. I am not familiar with the brand. thanks Karl
  12. I don't know if this topic has been discussed in the past it does not come up in the search function. What is the general consensus on the brand or type of antifreeze to use in the RX. I have some Prestone from previuos cars sitting in the garage that says it is good for aluminum engines. I would hate to waste it.
  13. Thanks Guys for your input. While working to get the door panel off the window stated working again, so, for now I am leaving it the way it is until it acts up again. Thanks Karl
  14. Thanks Lenore for your reply. The screw you mentioned is out but something is still holding it and it seems right behind the inside door handle. The door handle assembly feels like it is screwed to the door or held there by a clip. Karl
  15. 2001 RX300 I can't believe no one can help me. I am trying to remove the drivers door panel. I am stuck with an open window. I have all the screws and clips that I can find removed but right behind the inside door handle something is still holding it. Is there a clip that I can't see? I hope someone can help me with that. Thanks, Karl

  17. I usually do my home work before I buy a car, not after.
  18. My recommendation is to open the bleed valve before pushing the piston back and close it after the piston hits bottom in order to get the old fluid out of the system and not back into the master cylinder. The fluid that lives in the caliper gets boiling hot and turns nasty and needs to be replaced. just my way of doing it. Karl
  19. I also had the clicking noise behind the dash and over the weekend decided to take out the servo and clean the contacts. The culprit was the servo behind the AC pipes. It takes all kinds of tricks and an assortment of various screwdrivers to get it out and back in. It was worth it. I haven't heard a click since. Thanks guys Karl
  20. How old is your battery? While cranking the engine the battery voltage can drop below the threshold of the electronics and cost them to see a dead battery for a moment and that's all it takes for them to reset. Hope this helps. Karl
  21. I had the same thing happen to my 2001 RX 300. I put a can of Sea-foam into a full tank of gas and by the time it was used up the idle was nice and smooth again. Sometimes the fuel injectors get a little cruddy and don't have a good spray pattern and that can give you the rough idle assuming your motor mounts are still nice and flexible. Hope this helps. Karl
  22. Hi Gary, I am using a Garmin 2610 it does not have Bluetooth, I guess it's too old for that. During my research which one to buy I discovered that Garmin has the better mapping system. The thing just never makes a mistake. Good luck Karl
  23. Why would you want to change the plugs? they are good for at least 90k miles.
  24. to disconnect the battery, make sure everything is turned off, locate the negative terminal, the one with the minus, loosen the clamp with a ten millimeter wrench and lift the clamp off the terminal, wait a minute and put it back on, tighten the clamp nut and hope it helped. If you are not sure doing it, there is always your local garage. good luck Karl
