  1. A lexus delarship told me that our transmission was toast at 100k miles, I now have 200k miles on the same tranny! I change the trans oil as per the service manual. Spending $3000 on a replacement transmision is OK, however many salvage yards sell ES300 servicable transmissions for much less and will warranty them. I would find a transmission shop by recommadation and see what they find. David
  2. We have a 99 ES300 with Bridgestone Potenza'a and they are awsome in the snow, by the way we live in Minnesota where studded snow tires are not allowed. David
  3. I had a similar problem with a wet carpet on the passenger side and it was solved when the windshield was replaced. David
  4. TRD (Toyota Racing Department) offer a suprcharger for the V8 Tundra, as the LX470 has the same motor it would seem logical that installation should be possible. The Mercedes of recent time's have had problems with build quality and reliability. I would suggest that the LX470 is a superior vehicle. Regards David
  5. Is the coolant level changing? the LX450's are prone to head gasket failure and it can take some time before it fails completly. The radiator core could be partially blocked even though you have reverse flushed it. How many miles? does the radiator look new? The fan clutch could also be the culrpit, does the tempreture creep up in traffic while idling for extended periods? Regards David
  6. Is it the original radiator? how many miles? you may get away with radiator flush if there is a blockage. Does the fan function correctly? Dual thormostats, are they opening and closing correctly? Regards David
  7. I think the transmission fluid has to be checked with the engine running and in neutral, check your manual for the correct procedure. The trans fliud volume is important but the level on the dipstick is the recommended way to determine the fluid level. Regards David
  8. I think most parts probably are but why would you want to interchange parts? Regards David
  9. I have been towing a trailer with my 1994 ES300 for many years & over 75,000 miles without any problem, the trailer and contents weigh close to the 2000 maximum. The gas milegae sucks when towing. Regards David
  10. I had similar problems with wind noise in my 98, however since my passenger changed their diet the wind noise has significantly decreased :D Regards david
  11. Did the vehicle have better oil pressure when you bought it? are you using an OEM oil filter? Regards David
  12. When you first bought the vehicle were was the needle? are you using the OEM oil filter? my oil pressure needle is low on idle and moves up to about 2/3's of it's travel at 2500 RPM. Regards David
  13. I have OME shock & springs on my 98 LX470, the results are a huge improvement on the standard setup. Try - http://sleeoffroad.com for advice and they are a source for OME suspension which comes in many different combinations. Good luck David
  14. Go to http://www.parts.com for discouinted OEM parts David
  15. Trt www.parts.com you can get OEM parts at a discount David
  16. I have used Amsoil and swear by it, an ES300 does not have a rear diff? Regards David
  17. It's probably the transmission, let it warm up before stepping on it. When did you last have the transmission fluid flushed? this tranny has no filter so regular flushing is a must. Regards David
  18. I had the same issue, my mechanic installed a remanufactured CV shft complete, the parts came to $65 labor $75. That was over 75000 miles ago. Regards David
  19. Does the vehicle still have it's original radiator? could be there is a blockage in the raditor core which is causing your overheating. I would try some radiator flush and use as described and reverse flush the radiator. Additionaly try a pressure washer on the radiator from the engine side out to remove the crud that collects on the front of the radiator and inhibits the fans ability to keep the coolant cool.
  20. I had the same problem, I suggested my passenger change her diet - since then the wind noise has stopped. David :P
  21. Go to www.parts.com OEM parts are discounted. Regards David
  22. My guess is that it's the contacts in the starter that need replacing, they only cost a couple of bucks and solved the problem with my starter that had the same symptons as you mention. Regards David P.S. If you want information on how to change the contacts let me know.
  23. It probably is the starter and almost certainly the contacts located inside the starter, they are replaceble if you are mechanically capable? and cost a few bucks for a new set. Regards David
  24. I had a similar problem with a 1994 ES300, I changed the transmission oil (at the suggestion of a Lexus Technican) and the problem went away. Regards David ;)
  25. I went to my local Lexus dealer (Lexus of Wayzata, MN) they had a bunch of them in a box and gave me one that matched mine and did not charge! Regards David
