  1. So....the Lex smells. Literally. Every morning I get into the car, it smeels like , like something is rotting. I can't figure it out. First I thought maybe I left some groceries in the back long time ago and, but... I took the car out to clean the crap out of it, cleaned and detailed the whole interior, vaccumed and cleaned the trunk, it finally smelled like new and I knew there was nothing physically in it to cause the smell.. But two days later, it came back... I keep it in an underground garage. What could that be? Do you think A/C could cause any rotten smell at all? Cheers
  2. The way I see it, As long as Hyundai brand releases very cheap cars such as Accent, they are not going to be huge in luxury segment. We all know how important brands are in the minds of today's consumer. It's enough to say you own a BMW, Lexus or a MB without naming the model for people to understand your status. If you say you drive a Hyundai, as far as everybody is concerned, it could just as well be an Accent. The brand, in my opinion, just might not be recognized as a 'status' brand. If they come up with a luxury brand, it will be a whole different story. Like the VW Phaeton. An excellent car, to my liking, much like the Audi A8, but.....it's a Volkswagen. Last time I heard Phaetons didn't sell too well.
  3. Hyundai just needs a luxury daughter brand.
  4. I bought a replacement key off ebay for $40 (SILCA ITALY) and took it to a local locksmith. They actually BROKE two blanks (first mine, then their own) before doing the job successfully. When the key is cut, you can only open doors with it (it will not start the car). You have to 'program' the ECU for the new key - the instructions are usually included with they key blank. 3 minute job of pressing pedals in a proper order :) If your locksmith can't cut them - find another one! Mine didn't use any lasers as far as I could tell.
  5. I was waiting for "The Hyundai Azera has a steering wheel. Lexus does, too" :P
  6. I'm wondering if any of these units can be used with the factory changer? (98-01 generation for me)? I was looking at Avic-D3 today, and I was told it's impossible to use it with the stock changer.
  7. ha! Well I figured the problem with the armrest AC - it was some tinfoil from gum packaging that got stuck there. I checked the ashtray adapter to see if maybe it was the sameproblem, but no, that one was clean. Replacement assy is going to be at least $130 from ebay after shipping etc. I even replaced the CIG fuse with a spare (hoping for bad connectors etc), but that didn't do anything.
  8. Something strange is happening recently. First, the driver's seat heater went kaput (light comes ON, no heat though, passenger side OK). Then, the passenger seat heater started overheating, and eventually quit as well (light comes on, no heat!). Then, the console AC adapter (cig lighter) died. And most recently, the armrest AC also stopped working! I've checked the fuses under the steering wheel, none of them are blown... I'm really lost as to what could have happened. All 4 seat heater elements died over the course of a month? What could possibly break the AC adapters? What do you think, is it just my horrible karma? <_<
  9. VVT-i was introduced on the 99 ES300 The generation changed with the 02 Model (4th Gen) In 04, the 4th gen got the new engine, the 3.3L one, hence the name change to ES330. The interior remained essentially the same, I think they made a few more options available.
  10. check wires! When we bought the car, we had this 'dead battery' problem also, even after I replaced it with a brand-new unit. Turned out the wires to the battery were toasted. Replaced for about $20.
  11. OK, Local dealer wants $230 PER SENSOR. I'm gonna order them from Park Place Lexus They have 'Front' and 'Rear'..I take it 'Rear' is post-Cat and 'Front' are the ones at the engine, so I want to order 2 Front Sensors, is that right? *EDIT* I also found this: http://www.densoproducts.com Super Class OE identical O2 sensor 234-4622 FRONT; 2 Sensors Required for Vehicle; $89.20 So that's even cheaper than newlexusparts! Red flags go off, no?
  12. Would you recommend changing all three? I suspect they've never been changed.
  13. Gents, I have a 98 ES300 with about 120k miles I took it for emissions test a few days back, and although it passed, i'm still worried. Here's what i got: IDLE: HC ppm: 126 Limit: 150 CO,%: 0.04 Limit: 0.7 RPM: 698 2500 RPM: HC ppm: 91 Limit: 150 CO,%: 0.62 Limit: 0.7 The test was performed on warmed-up engine. I've been reading that HC is unburned fuel. Additionally, I can say that i've changed my spark plugs recently (to OEM Platinum) and did the Seafoam treatment twice in the past 6 months. Oil (Mobil 1 Synt.) and Air filters are changed every 5-6k miles. As far as the engine performance goes, i notice a high fuel consumption (regardless of driving style, best i could get was 21 mpg on highway and 19 mpg city (that's with virtually never going over 2500 rpm!). I've tried resetting the ECU but that didn't do anything. I'm worried because it looks to me like something might be wrong with the ignition system. What do you think are the most probable causes? Should I look at wires first, or distributor/rotors? Any leads would be appreciated.
  14. You can simply set the HDD to SLAVE mode (a pin on the back panel of the thing does that), connect it to another PC and format the drive in Windows.
