  1. Right and the sidewall MAX PSI is referring to the cold pressure. If you inflate the tire to 35 PSI cold it may be 40 or 41 PSI when hot. The tire manufacturers engineer the tires with this in mind.
  2. I don't know....so many of these rims give the car a "ghetto look" it just looks like crap. What I want is a pair that looks OEM. My old ones are starting to leak.
  3. If you want max gas mileage go with the max PSI on the tires if you want the engineered comfort level for the LS400 then use the indicated PSI in the owner’s manual. I've always used the MAX PSI on the tire, you can feel the road through the car a bit but the higher mileage is worth it.
  4. How do you go about changing the PS fluid? What do you do with the old fluid?
  5. Did you use AFT? Some cars use something like break fluid (Not actual break fluid as this would eat everthing that wasn't metal) for the PS. The LS uses ATF. It may just be a coincidence and you've lost you PS pump or you rack is bad...leaks? Check the vacuum lines too.
  6. They have this crap in Texas too. My 1985 Camry started knocking and pinging and then leaking fuel too. After I got it repaired I had to find dealerships that sold regular unleaded gas! Friggen ecodorks! :chairshot:
  7. I know but he said that he gets 28MPG city or hwy. I think he is just blowing smoke up our air-dams or :snoooorrrtttt:
  8. Look on the side of the tire, it will tell you the max PSI. If you want good mileage then max the psi. If you want a softer ride then take a few #’s out.
  9. Psst....you site driving habit sand then tell us that gas from AZ nets you mileage that is about what we get. I think it's the gas and not the style! I want to know what the hell they put in the gas in NM to net you 28 MPG on hwy or city....sounds mighty fishy to me.
  10. That's what you are probably looking at. If you open the door panel and tap the motor when it will not roll down I bet it would start working.
  11. My 1990 LS400 gets 24 MPG hwy and about 18 city (I like to accelerate!) San Diego Premium gas ranges from $1.74 to $1.90 I drive 50 miles one way to work at about 85mph on the freeway.
  12. I get "Oil Eater" from COSTCO. You spray it on and hose it off. You don't have to wait at all. It gets the engine, tranny, and all the associated hoses and fittings looking new with little or no effort. Here is a little info on "Oil Eater"
  13. My wife took control of my LS400 too. She still lets me drive it to work sometimes, only becasue she also took control of my 2001 F150. I keep telling her that the minivan is hers but she will have no part of it.....I hate the minivan
  14. Hmmm..I don't remember a valve only a metal tube that appeared to be welded to the reservoir. I'll ook again when I get home.
  15. The hose that runs from the bottom of the reservoir to the front of the air plenum slipped off the reservoir. The car ran fine while the engine was at cruising speed but at idle it would jerk and act like it was going to die. I stuck the hose back on and it’s been running fine. I noticed that the hose was wet with PS fluid. Where is the valve at? Is it in the reservoir?
  16. Oops I misunderstood what the mechanic was saying. The one cam was misaligned by 1 tooth (not missing a tooth). This was causing the knocking and pinging. Man it runs strong and quite now! And it only ran me $1300.00 New Lexus timing belt New Lexus water pump Rear Main seal New Lexus idler pulley and bracket New Lexus thermostat and housing
  17. More news....One of the camshaft gears was missing teeth. Which, I guess, explains the knocking and pinging? The idler pulley bearings were so bad that they actually made noise if you shook the housing.... :( Thank gawd he is almost done....I can't afford any more "news". :chairshot:
  18. OK.....The oil leak is the rear main seal. ($400 and some change). jsweb good job! The strange noise was the water pump eating its housing. The guy told me if it hadn't been a Lexus I wouldn't have made it to the shop. ($500 and some change, includes a new water pump from Lexus, timing belt, other miscellaneous items) It really freaked me out considering it has never leaked anything before (well it did leak PS fluid from a hose but that doesn't count)
  19. Friday on the way home from work I stopped at a red light and noticed that the engine was running rough and I could hear what sounded like loud exhaust noise coming from the engine compartment. I drove home and parked in the garage. The next day I pulled it out to work in the garage and noticed engine oil, it’s never leaked before. I checked under the car and sure enough there is a wet spot where the engine and tranny meet. It still runs and shifts great but at idle it is still rough and it makes noise. Any ideas? (I really hope it's not a head gasket!) I’ve got an appointment with my mechanic this afternoon.
  20. Thank! I had given up hope that anyone knew where this thing was! A friend of mine was searching online for me and found this answer, I told him I had asked the question (he didn't know my user name online!). Thank you again mig25. Now I can change this this weekend!
  21. Wow....this usually means that you are burning oil. Blue = oil White = coolant Black/Gray = fuel (too rich).
  22. I think you mean the Tachometer. This measures the RPM’s (Rounds Per Minute) of the engine. I've replaced my battery twice since I bought it (about 3 years ago). I found that the replacement battery that the local car shop sold me was underpowered (it only lasted about 1 year), even though it shows as the replacement. It was about 3/4 the size of the original Lexus battery. I replaced it with the largest one I could find that would fit with the highest cold cranking amps and everything is good again. I was told that these cars are hard on batteries because of all the systems that run in the background while the car is off. I guess they were right.
  23. Where is the fuel filter and what is the best replacement to use? Truthfully I haven’t looked all that hard for its location. I was hoping that someone here had already done the legwork. Are there any pictures?
  24. Thanks for taking the time to do all this and post it here. It's truly amazing a 6 bolt main!
