  1. If you check the front bumper you'll find small indentations that indicate where the mounting holes must be drilled. The threaded inserts that accept the license plate mounting screws are behind the indentations. Drill using a small diameter drill or have the dealer do it.
  2. Add me to this list as well. Of course it happened about two days after I bought the car so I was convinced it was a defect with the key or something else related to the ignition or security. My girlfriend suggested turning the steering wheel.
  3. The remote starter (Audiovox) installed in my 2005 does not have the climate control limitation. Everything works as if the car were started using the key in the ignition.
  4. Can you provide the section or page in the manual that states the airbags will not deploy if the seatbelt is not fastened? I just read the section on supplemental restraint and occupant restraint and couldn't find anything that mentioned this. It does cover the dependancies regarding the passenger seat but nothing about this for the driver. On a related note, I did find a reference to warnings about after-market accessories such as brush bars and their potential affect on the supplemental restraint system. I'd guess they can also affect the crush zones on the car as well. Interesting. I'd be curious to learn if insurance companies adjust damage claims that they deem to have been affected by after market accessories like brush bars. If they determine that the brush bar contributed or otherwise affected the ability of the car to absorb the impact, would they adjust the damage claim?
  5. Hmmm... headlight tabs broken but lenses un-damaged. Interesting.
  6. Gary That is what I have done...I have tried to put my hand and move it left and right while the door is closing and it does not stop...keeps coming down... Once more from the manual... If anything with sufficient resistance obstructs the power back door while it is closing or opening, the back door will automatically reverse to the opposite direction. The resistance must be as strong as the force of the moving door, or stronger.
  7. From the manual: Jam protection function If anything with sufficient resistance obstructs the power back door while it is closing or opening, the back door will automatically reverse to the opposite direction. If the jam protection function operates continuously at the closing operation more than 2 times, the back door will be stopped at that position. Before operating the power back door, make sure there is nobody near the back door. The resistance must be as strong as the force of the moving door, or stronger. As the back door approaches the fully–closed or fully–opened position, its moving force increases significantly. If the back door receives a strong impact, this function may operate even if nothing is caught.
  8. I wasn't able to find the mats in charcoal grey, only black, light grey, or tan. Can you provide a part number? The OEM light grey mats require too much maintenance. Thanks.
  9. I had my 2005 in for some scheduled maintenance and they called to let me know the cabin filter 'was pretty dirty'. They quoted me $65 to replace it. Yikes. Fortunately, based on information from this thread, I had purchased the Bosch filter yesterday for $15. I'll put it in tonight and save myself 50 bucks.
  10. You can always use the same method that tire thieves use. Just force a socket over the locking nut and remove it. EDIT - Sorry - Missed wwest's reply.
  11. My 2005 does the same thing. I know this will sound strange, but I found that if I turned the volume up on the radio, it seemed to take longer to eject. I'm not sure why but my un-scientific testing seemed to help.
  12. Based on my experience with my 05, I would have to answer No. Too many rattles. The headlight condensation problem bothers me. Both headlights have been replaced under warranty, but what happens after the warranty expires. Transmission lag is annoying. On the plus side, the buying experience and service departments have been outstanding. I might give another Lexus a try but most likely not the RX. My 98 CRV had and 91 MR2 have less issues.
  13. This should be a study in marketing. The whole listing reads like a bottle of snake oil. Sell something that doesn't work at a price that will make someone feel willing to take a chance. Even if you have to refund their money, you still keep the 'shipping' cost. 36+ HP guaranteed.
  14. I just had the drivers side housing replaced today due to moisture. The passenger side was replaced last year. I hope the newer parts are less prone to moisture.
  15. Here's a previous thread... http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...?showtopic=5669
  16. The link above is for the Lexus OEM hitch. The original poster had asked for pictures of the Hidden Hitch version.
  17. Oil change and tire rotation run me about $90. Of course I could have this done just about anywhere but the free loaner makes it much easier for me.
  18. As was mentioned earlier, these lawsuits rarely benefit the consumer. I just got one from Verizon offering me a $15 credit. The problem for me is that I no longer have service through Verizon so the only way to benefit would be to open a new account. No thanks. I think I did get a $50 savings bond from a Mitsubishi lawsuit. Of course I had to wait for it to actually be worth $50.
  19. The amount of the rebate depends on which version disc you currently are using. Version 5 qualifies for the $40 rebate while earlier versions qualify for a $20 or $15 rebate. I'd love to see a group buy for the update.
  20. I just had a rattle fixed that was coming from the cargo cover track on the passenger side. I know I'm preaching to the choir, but way too many rattles for a car of this class. I could swear my Honda CRV had less. I'm hesitant to get the dash rattle fixed as I'm concerned about any interior damage removing and re-installing the dash. I keep hoping the rattle will just go away.
  21. Setting the auto door locking and unlocking functions You can set the following auto door locking and unlocking functions. a - Locking linked with the shift position All the doors are locked automatically when the selector lever is moved out of the “P” position with the ignition switch in the “ON” position.* NOTE: * This function is the default setting for new vehicles. b - Unlocking linked with the shift position All the doors are unlocked automatically when the selector lever is moved to the “P” position with the ignition switch in the “ON” position. c - Locking linked with the vehicle speed All the doors are locked automatically when the vehicle speed reaches 20 km/h (12 mph) or higher. However, if any door is unlocked during driving, this auto locking function will not operate until the unlocked door is opened once. d - Unlocking linked with opening the driver’s door All the doors are unlocked automatically when the driver’s door is opened within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned from “ON” to the “ACC” or “LOCK” position. Setting the functions 1. Close all the doors. 2. Turn the ignition switch to the “ON” position. 3. Within 10 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the “ON” position; To set function - a Push and hold the front of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector lever in the “P” position. To set function - b Push and hold the rear of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector lever in the “P” position. To set function - c Push and hold the front of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector lever in any position except “P”. To set function - d Push and hold the rear of the power door lock switch for 5 seconds with the selector lever in any position except “P”. All the doors automatically lock and unlock when you release the power door lock switch. This indicates that the function is set. If all the doors do not lock and unlock, the time the switch was held may have been too short or too long. Perform the procedure over again starting from step 1. If you want to cancel a function, repeat the procedure. Each time you perform the procedure, the function is set or cancelled.
  22. I've had no complaints with voice quality using bluetooth. When I first began to use it, I asked the other party's about the voice quality and all said it sounded very good. FWIW, I'm using an Audiovox SMT5600 and Cingular as the carrier. 2005 RX.
  23. Actually, if you measure the deflection as we did at the dealership, you'll find the drivers side tilts less than the passenger side. I don't disagree that the drivers side mirror should angle more, only it doesn't. At least that was what we found on three of the loaners and mine.
  24. I thought my drivers mirror was broken because it didn't tilt as much as the passenger mirror. The dealer replaced the drivers mirror but when I got it back, it did the same thing. I noticed the loaner was the same way. We checked a few others and they all worked the same - passenger mirror tilts more than the drivers mirror. I could have sworn the drivers mirror tilted as much as the passenger side when I got the car last September. Why would the drivers mirror tilt less than the passenger mirror?
  25. Audiovox SMT5600 with Cingular Wireless service. No problems using Bluetooth with 2005 RX. Phone book transfer can only be done one number at a time. All other features work fine.
