  1. Tape adapter is the way to go if you're looking for a cheap, easy and quick solution. If you want to hardwire, I'm not sure that you can dicectly connect an OEM system to, say, an iPod. You will most likely need a new head unit and an iPod adapter. Clairion makes very good systems, however some are pricey. If you look in the righ places on their site, www.clairion.com, you can find several head units in the $200-$300 range, and an iPod adapter for around $150.
  2. They look good to me, but keep this in mind:
  3. This is only part of my model car collection. I probably have 60-70 1:24 model cars, all wrapped up and in archive boxes. These pics are of my 1:18 scale models. I forgot 2 others before my camera ran out of batteries, a Porche 911 GT1 and the 2004 Conseco Indy 500 replica. Here's a place to show us what you collect. B)
  4. SK, is this the Ford Five Hundred you're talking about? Or the concept version? Because the actual model taking the Taurus's place is this ^ car, with I believe a 207 HP V6 engine with a CVT.
  5. There is also a possibility that they broke into your car when you had locked it using the switch that is inside the car. Only when you lock the car using a remote or the key in the outside part of the door does the engine immobilizer become activated. This is true in all the Toyotas and Lexuses that we own, older and newer.
  6. I'm assuming that my car has tape pinstriping, because a small portion of it was damaged on the front left, revealing black underneath where the pinstripe should be. So all I have to do is take a hairdryer to it and peel away with my fingers? What should I do after removing the stripes to clean and protect the surface? Thanks.
  7. This is a quick system that works relatively well when keeping your car parked for a long time. Turning the green knob turns off most of the power to the car, but still kept my clock and radio presets. I have a power seat, but not with memory control. I'm not sure what it's called, because it came with the car when we bought it. Whenever you reconnect it after disconnecting it though, be sureto tighten it very well or else you may have trouble starting your car up. The only way I have figured out to fix this is by resetting the system- unscrewing the knob all the way, and then tightening it all the way. Old, dirty picture.
  8. Will they fit on a 2002 4Runner Limited? If they do please e-mail me, jtpaintballin77@yahoo.com Thanks.
  9. The Cressida became the Avalon, the Tercel became the Echo I'm assuming, same thing with the Paseo- became a mix between the then current MR2 Spyder and the new one, and the Previa became the Sienna. Toyota models that have held the same name since their first year of production are, in no specific order ( I think these are all that kept their name ): Supra Camry Corolla 4Runner A more recent name-change, although not in the Toyota lineup, is the previous generation Miata, that has now become the Mazda MX-5.
  10. In the mood of this subject, Car and Driver's Pippa Garner gives her interpretation of how distracted we are behind the wheel.
  11. I'm also not sure how the car calculates mpg etc. I don't know how the needle in the speedometer works anyway and how it's related to the mpg calculator. ← What the MPG "Distance until empty" and MPG counter shows you the car's estimate of what mileage you're getting based on your driving style. So if you drive harder, the estimated MPG and "DUE" will drop significantly. If you keep a constant RPM or are coasting, your consumption estimates will be substantially higher than if you were repeatedly using the gas pedal. When my friend drive's his Audi S4 really fast, the MPG counter reads "--.-" :whistles:
  12. Lex, you my friend, are a post !Removed!. If I bought either of the two, Ford or Mercury, I'd have to go with the Marauder, even though that car had the shelf life of warm yougurt. A cop car in James Bond clothing.
  13. 1996 Volvo 850R. Red with black leather and suede. 255 HP at the crank, had it dynoed once (lol, what a waste) and made a little more than 210 at the wheels. Previous owner had installed a 15 HP ECU chip. Had about 90,000 miles on it when I got it July of 2004. Totaled in December 2004 with about 94,000 miles on the odometer. Got the 4Runner as a replacement until I recieved the ES250. My mom got a XC90, and so we kept the 4Runner as a back-up, but has now become mine completely.
  14. You can hear a slight clicking noise around where the petals are on the floor, and even if you push in the gas pedal all the way, it will not send power to the engine or wheels until the computer senses that all 4 wheels are spinning at the same rate, and that the car is not moving sideways, as opposed to in a straight line. A light with a car and squiggly tracks behind it blinks intermittently while the system is working and lets of short "beepbeepbeepbeepbeep's" until the system recognizes the car is under control.
  15. Probably faux suede. I think it's called microfiber. I have a sportcoat made of suede, but not the knock off stuff. Lol. All I can say about Tauruses is that they can withstand 90 MPH brief loose shoulder stints in the Arizona desert. :o That was certainly interesting. Even when Tauruses have been good cars to the rental companies, there will sooner or later be a need for change. I'm sure that the addition of the Ford 500 to rental fleets will improve each company's image, and show that they are looking out for the best intrest of customers, new and previous.
  16. Thanks, glad to know that I can connect to some one else on here rather other than the type of cars we drive. :) I have to say the same thing about SW. He's obviously trained well in the field of brain versus machine versus government, especially with this whole thread about cell phones and accidents. He presents his information very straight foward, which comes from a high education and pure knowledge. All I'm coming from is plain ole' experience. B)
  17. LOL we had a taurus as a rental in Florida a few years ago. I didn't like it very much; it had cloth seats ← Spoiled.
  18. Yes there are TRAC OFF buttons in 2WD models of Toyotas and Lexuses that have the Vehicle Skid Control (VSC). If you had a 2WD model and say, got stuck in deep mud or sand, turning the VSC off allows full engine power to be sent to the 2 drive wheels, and not have the detection of wheel slippage activate the VSC and take power away from the slipping wheels.
  19. I don't know about the RX, but in my 4Runner, when you turn off the VSC, it's when you have to have the car in 4WD, and the center differntial is locked. On dry surfaces, it provides a kind of chatter when accelerating and making turns, not good for the transmission, drivetrain, or tires. In heavy sand, it's possible to do 4 wheel drifts with a roostertail from all 4 wheels; makes a cool picture. B) On ice it's just dangerous.
  20. Anywhere from $25-$35k on each car. In a couple of episodes, the WCC team decided to not even bother finxing up the junkers, but rather buy completely new cars, and modify those instead. 1 episode that really *BLEEP*ed me off was when they took a 2005 4Runner Limited and painted it an ugly color with dumb graphics, and put a plasma TV where the spare tire should be, so the owner could watch TV while working on his car. A waste in my eyes. In another car, when changing the steering wheel, they removed both the driver and passenger airbags. After this happened, the owner's inurance company sued MTV for liability issues if the owner got into an accident.
  21. If you're still in the market, maybe try the E320 TDI. It's base is around 50k new, but it won't be sold much longer because of some emissions discrepency in CA. There's the question of MB reliability again, but great mileage from a Benz, about 35 MPG. It's peppy too, out accelerating the V6 E320, and the TDI has 201 HP and 369 LB FT. of torque.
  22. Maybe you meant the CLK? That starts around $55,000, while the CLS starts at around $65,000. But I'm sure if he wanted, IF could cough up an extra 10 grand to get the base CLS500. B) ← Who know's how much of a discount one will be able to get.....the $65k is MSRP so it dosen't hurt to make an offer......all the dealer can say is no. B) ← I am a new-car buying n00b. I was suprised to see that our 2002 4Runner, when bought new in 2002, was "marked down" to about $38,400. Either my parent's aren't good at bargaining, or the original price was over $40,000. Maybe the price was so high because it was the 0% financing event going on.
