  1. absolutely love it, well almost and i really need to see it in person. so my three cents on what i'm not that excited about (which is pretty silly when looking at the whole package of a gorgeous car)... 1. headlights. they don't look that great in the pictures and may be much better in real life. it seems as though the border around them shouldn't be there and that they should go all the way to the natural lines of the hood and bumper. with the lights a lil' bigger in this fashion, i think the car would look more aggressive. see my image below that i made in 5 minutes with photoshop. i no car designer, but it seems to make sense to me. 2. i miss the white speedo :( i get the feeling that this is gonna be another one of those things i need to see in person. 3. this really has nothing to do with the overall design of the car, but why is there a cassette player?! i'd rather see some kind of interface for an ipod.
  2. here's my adventure in replacing the sub in my 99 gs300 that may be helpful in getting the sound you want... i first replaced the factory sub with a jl in my '99 first. it sounded much better and i got better bass out of it, but it wasn't satisfactory. one problem is the gs audio system sounds damn good (coming from a car audio enthusiast that used to spend thousands on car audio), but it also has built in "bass control" and it lowers your bass at higher volumes to protect the sub. so when you turn it up your sub will never be as loud proportionately at higher volume. also, i listen to all kinds of music from jazz, rock, pop, rap, electronica, and everything in between and the biggest problem i have is being able to control the amount of bass/boom for a specific type of music. in the end the the solution came in a 12" solobaric kicker sub in it's own enclosure, with the original sub taken out to allow for air movement to the cabin, to help feel the bass. there are plenty of other subs out there, but this one has a dual coil and according to my installer acts almost as two subs in this fashion and is convenient for saving space. a viper amp in the trunk, with separate volume control mounted under the dash, so i can easily control sub volume according to the type of music. i couldn't be happier for several reasons. one, it sounds great. two, it's not permanent and can easily be put back to stock and taken out. that way, when i can get my new 06 gs it will go in there. three, the separate sub volume is a must for correct sound control, as i listen to all kinds of music and take 5 from dave brubeck wouldn't sound very good with the sub set for a pounding trance song from dj tiesto. four, the sub enclosure fits great on the trunk "shelf" against the rear seats and takes up minimal trunk space. lastly, it wasn't that expensive to round out the sound system. forgot the actual amount and would have to hunting through receipts, but i'm guessing it was around $500 installed. lol, much better than the thousands i used to spend ;) anyway, my two cents and it may be an option for you depending on your needs.
  3. yeah it'll work, but probably not sound as good as you're expecting. plug it in and try it, but i would venture a guess you'll probably end up doing what i did. after swapping out the stock sub with a better one, i eventually i ended up getting an amp and new sub/enclosure as it just wasn't quite right. now it's prefect with a seperate gain control for the sub amp, so i can really control the bass depending on the music.

  5. very cool, thanks for letting me know! compareed to the cd changer, percentage wise, what would you say is the loss in quality?
  6. i know we've done this topic a couple of times, but still wondering if anyone has used an fm modulator to add an ipod or mp3 changer to their stock system? how does it sound and are you happy with it?
  7. very nice ride! is that the champagne color? always loved that color! what are you planning to do it?
  8. nice ride :D very clean, but what are you doing to your trunk?! i love a little bass (or alot) in my music too, but damn, why waste your trunk? i got 1 kicker 12" L7 and it's plenty of bass, i can only imagine 2 or even 1 15" L7 would probably be able to do what 4 JLs are and they'ed take up about a 1/4" of the space. i dunno, it's your trunk, good looking ride though!
  9. i don't know about l-tuned discontinuing products. as for getting them from lex or l-tuned to save a couple of bucks, i personally feel more comfortable having lexus be the responsible party and do the install for complete peace of mind.
  10. that is a sweet ride with some damn nice rims :D if you wanna get rid of those pinstripes, which it sounds like you do, it's pretty easy. had some on mine and they had to go. let me know if you need any advice on gettin' rid of 'em. again nice ride!
  11. i love my lexus! no compaints here, well maybe one, there just aren't enough hours in the day for crusin' in my lex :D
  12. not sure of the measurements, but you may want to do a little searching on the web for seat covers. otherwise you'll probably need to get it custom made and they can figure out the measurements for you.
  13. i would get the same ones, so all match when you rotate the tires. for the gs i would stick with the better tire for safety reasons as well.
  14. this seems to be a very common problem with the gs series. if you do a search i'm sure you'll find many, many posts about this. in general the problem seems to be that your wheels may need to be re-balancing or as stated by bbsal could be your rotors if it happens when you're braking.
  15. i know we've covered hooking up a mp3 changer (or an ipod for that matter) to the factory deck and that pretty much the only way is to use the fm modulator. my question is, has anyone done this and how is the sound quality with the modulator? second, for any of you who've been following my earlier posts about adding an aftermarket sub to get more complete sound, here's my advice as i couldn't be happier! first i tried adding a ten in the stock location in a box mounted from underneath with an amp and wasn't very happy. it sounded about as good as the stock one :( the answer was to go with a 12" dual voice coil in it's own box, that fits great underneath the back deck with the stock location left empty, saving most of the trunk space. also added a seperate gain control that's mounted under the stearing wheel, so i can control the bass depending on what type of music i'm listening to. it sounds awesome and i highly recommend this option to anyone looking to add some bass to their stock system.
  16. i dunno, it's always hard to get a real feel from these kinda drawings. it does have some basic design principles and lines of the current model. if it's the actual thing, i like it overall. not to sure about the grill/driving light integration and i'd like to see what the rear will look like. i will of course reserve judgement for the real thing.
  17. i guess i should have mentioned it, but i did add an amp as well. some time this week i should hopefully get a new box with 2 10s and we'll see :D
  18. if you can find a good deal, i'd definitely pick it up. it'll certainly add more value to your gs. i'd go talk to your lex dealer and see how much they'd charge to install as they'll be able to do it right. keep us posted, as it's something i've been thinking about doing as well.
  19. that absolutely sucks! nothing worse than little f@cking dings to mess the smooth lines of the gs. i hear that places like dent doctors (here in so cal) do a really good job and are relatively inexpensive. hang in there and feel free to vent any time.
  20. thanks for the replies guys. i've actually replaced the 10" in the stock spot and added a custom box mounted from underneath as well as a seperate gain control for the sub. i was actually wondering, how others who've done this like it? i'm not that happy with it because the stock radio automatically reduces volume to the sub at higher volumes. considering i listen to all types of music from jazz to rap, classical to rock, and everything between, i'm just not getting enough bass for certain types of music. anyway i'm thinking i should go with 2 10" subs to help compensate.
  21. has anyone else replaced the sub of their stock system in their 99 and up gs? what did you get installed and how do you like it?
  22. depending on how much bass you want, you can always add an aftermarket sub and amp... see my post in this thread
  23. i had an aftermarket sub and amp installed to add a little more to the low end. it sounds a hell of alot better and is just the right amount of bass for me. if you're looking for a big booming system however, then i suggest changing out your head unit and stock speakers as well, because the stock lex system is not going to do it for you. it actually caps low end frequencies at higher volume to save the speakers from blowing, so if you're trying to get alot of bass at high volume it ain't gonna happen.
  24. check this thread on the uk lexus club...
  25. any tint with metal in it can effect your radar, alarm, even your nav system. i haven't had any problems with that aspect and even have metallic tint on all windows. not that i have really been able to test it, but i'd assume that my detector still gets decent reception through the rear window tint since it's gone off with smokey coming up behind me. one more tip on keepnig a good eye out, most highway patrol (at least here in ca) go about 70-75 when they're cruising. so on the highways i tend to go about 80-85 and check my mirror alot, but more so i check for what's ahead of me, since i'm usually going faster than any cruising cop and will see them ahead of me. when doing this, always be careful of a "herd" of cars, as there can easily be a cop in there. remember to drive safe, fast yes, but safe and enjoy whatever detector you get.
