I want to change the rear door speakers in '99 GS4 w/NAK system. I know the OEM is a 4" mid speaker. I want to upgrade to 51/4" two way speaker. Are there any OEM crossovers for the rear that will prevent me from getting highs out of my new two way spekaers? Or can I just install them and be okay. I want to make whatever changes I need while stuff is taken apart. I would hate to install them, put everything back together and not get any highs out of the tweeters of my new speakers. I am thinking there is only an internal highpass crossover in the factory amp, which would work great. Just want to be sure. Thanks for the help.

Exactly! I mounted my twelve in a 99 GS4 underneath the rear deck using 3/4 inch particle board as my mounting baffle. Just go to your local hardware store and purchase the particle board. You can a purchase 3/4 inch shelf board. Shelves are usually made out of particle board. Just make sure it is wide enough for a 12 inch to mount to it. Cut your hole out the board, mount sub to board, and then mount to rear deck underneath thru trunk. This way if you have a problem with sub or want to change in future, you don't have the pain of removing rear seat, rear deck board and all that stuff. Much easier this way. Make sure you use some type of seal between mounts for air tight fit and to prevent vibration from bass. Oh yea! Mount sub from the top of sub. Do not drop sub into hole cut out. You will need the extra 3/4 depth of board for subwoofer movement when the bass really hits.

I have a 99 GS400. I have had this car four about 4 months now. When I bougt it mileage was around 62K. I am in the Chicago area and have a few Lexus dealers to choose from. When I first got the car, I called the dealer closest to me and asked about the 65K service. The dealer told me replace plugs and all fluids and some other minor stuff at around $1000. I called two more Lexus dealers within a 25 mile radius. They both told me that my plugs did not need changing until around 100k or so. I should change timing belt at that time as well. They told all I needed at this time was changing of all fluids and overall diagnositcs and they were at around $600 to $700. So make sure you do some comparison shopping if there are more dealers, even a Toyota dealer. I found out that the first dealer that wanted over a $1000 is always higher than everyone else and sometimes does maintenance that is not needed yet.

Okay, I'll buy that. However, I was in a drive thru car wash last week (touchless I might add), and a ever so tiny drop of water got on the inside the top corner or the window where this wind noise is coming from. The side mirror can't possibly cause this.

Okay guys. Only had my GS400 for about three monbths now. When I am fueling up my car and leave the car running, on two different occasions the car has died on me when I put it in drive to leave gas station. It has only happened when I am getting gas. However, it died on me at a stop light today after I took off pretty fast at previous light. What is up with that!? The air filter is only a few months old and no warning lights of any kind are coming on. Does this sound serious or is it a minor problem. I was reading some other post about low idle problems with gs 400s, but it happened while I was braking coming to a stop.

I am 100% sure it sis coming from top corner of driver's side window. Now that I look at window when it is closed, the seal around window does not seem to fit tightly around it.

It is definitely coming from the window. I figured that out today. Is there any way to fix this, or do I need to buy a new window seal?

Yea, the sub definitely had 6 ohm stamped on the steel casing. Maybe the Nak system had a little different setup.

In an previous posting, I talked about how I replaced my sub and added a Kenwood mono sub amp. I now have a 12 inch (05C124) Kicker Comp sub that is suitable for free air applications. When taking out the factory sub, I noticed that it said it was a 6 ohm sub, when makes me think that the factory amp is operating at 6 ohms as well. Am I correct in this, and if so, will that affect the sound or power of my aftermarket amp and sub since they are both operating at 4 ohm?

I have a 99 GS400. I've had for about four months now. I am getting wind noise form my driver's side window. I hear it coming from the top corner of the window. I am not sure if this window was ever replace or not. I am thinking that the window seal is not matching up with the window. I have tried to putting round foam seal in the window seal to try and make it more airtight. This is not helping. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how did you cure it? Or do I have to buy a new seal? This noise is annoying, especially in a Lexus!

A DVC sub only allows you to get more power from an amp. It is nothing like having 2 subs aside from allowing your amp to put more power into one sub. B) ← Thanks for your responses. I was bored on Sunday and decided to change my sub once again. I went with the 12" as opposed to 10". I am somewhat satisfied now. The bass is lower and is cleaner at higher volumes. I stayed with the Infinity brand. A bass control knob would be helpful. I did notice that tweeking my midbass control on the Nak radio helps with my overall sound. I too listen to many types of music, and the midbass can sound very boomy in certains types of music. Adjusting this does help quite a bit. Maybe I have found my cure for now. I am thinking about eventually running another Kenwood to match my Kenwood mono amp. This new amp would be four channel and will run the Nak speakers. Best Buy is having close out sales on last year's models and they are too cheap to pass up. I got the 8101D mono amp and the 8401 four channel amp and spent only 300 bucks.

What's up! I am constantly back and forth with my subwoofer design. Has anyone with the Nak system in 99-00 GS400 changed their 10" subwoofer in the rear deck? In a previous forum, I talked about how I changed my subwoofer and custom built a sealed enclosure and mounted it to the rear deck around the subwoofer. The enclosure is .80cuft. I am currently using a Infinity sub. It sounds okay, but I am considering changing to a JL Audio. I recently heard a Kicker Comp 10" in a GS. This kicker subwoofer can be used in infinite baffle design, and that it how it was used in this lexus. It sounded pretty darn good for a free air configuration. Of course I like enclosures because of more power and more accurate bass, but I also love my stock look. If anyone knows about specific subs that work well in free air, I would like to hear your recommendations. I know Infinity has a Kappa model that can be used. JL Audio also has a marine sub that I hear sounds good. Oh yea, I installed a Kenwood mono sub amp that will be pushing whatever sub design I decide to go with.

Its funny you mentioned the remote on/off wire. I was doing some research trying to determine which subwoofer amp I was going to purchase. JL Audio has a line of mono sub amps that do not require a remote acc on/off hook up. The amp senses the audio signal from the audio line inputs and automatically turns itself on. Somewhat like how a home audio powered subwoofer work. This is a great feature and I think I am going with this audio. The amp also sounds great.

Hey, thanks for the input. I will give it a try. If all else fails, I will have to go to my local custom audio store, who I am sure can handle it. I just hate to pay someone else for something I can do. But if it becomes too complicated, I will have to. I know these factory systems can sometimes be difficult deal with. I just dont want to screw up something in the factory system trying to troubleshoot each wire to find the right ones. These upgraded factory systems tend to get all sensitive when you start bothring them. But there is always a way.
