  1. Have you checked the oil level ? Transmission fluid level ?
  2. That's true, Some rear window tints contain metalics and raise hell with nav systems.
  3. Ebay usually has manuals up for auction http://cgi.ebay.com/LEXUS-GX470-GX-470-REP...1QQcmdZViewItem I don't know how reliable the cd versions are but you should search. You can always sign up at www.alldata.com and download the entire manual but it will take a llllloooooooonnnnnnnnggggggggg time. I think it is $10.00 for a 24 hr. period. ;)
  4. Sw, Can I ask your opinion of Kumho tires. I am soon to be in the market for a set and aia want to try a tire other than michelins. Dunlops and bridgestones are out. Thanks...
  5. Members locations are typically in there signature. I am from planet earth Welcome to the forums, Have fun and read, read, read did I mention search first before you start posts that have already been gone over. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...Search&f=94
  6. What oil do you use ? How often do you change the oil ? When was the last time a flush and fill was performed ? Has the timing belt been changed ? How many miles are on the car now ? Welcome to the club
  7. Exactly
  8. You need a 10mm allen socket, And they sell the pumps for the gear oil containers wherever they sell the oil. It's easy as pie.
  9. That quote was from lexus of maplewood 651-483-6111 ;)
  10. Lexus quote- $1350.00 for the headliner w/sunroof and no rear audio, And $400 for the install.
  11. Don't forget to loosen the fill plug before you drain. And you have to use a pump to get the new oil in.
  12. Have you guys changed your diffy fluid ? Go to synthetic, It definetly helps smooth things out.
  13. Actually you have the edge. The 98-00 SC400's engine was modified with a new vvi-T system that makes it put out now 290-300 HP and 300 ft-lbs torque. Lexus timed the new engine and car at 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. I've personally gotten mine at about 6.2-6.3 seconds. Autos.com rates it at 6 seconds flat. http://www.autos.com/autos/car/luxury/2000/lexus/sc400/base As for the E34 BMW 540i, it was rated at 0-60 in about 6.2 seconds in manual and 6.9 seconds in auto. If your friend has manual, he will have a slight edge, but in automatic BMW vs. Automatic Lexus, the SC400 is bound to win. I'm sure if the SC400 had ever been produced in manual, it would probably have gotten the 0-60 down to 5.5 seconds or less. Remember his car puts out slightly less HP and torque than yours, plus his car weighs much heavier and has a worse drag. Whoever is telling you his BMW is better than yours has no sense of stlye whatsoever. In terms of sheer design, the 1st gen SC is better than a BMW anyday, even the new ones and especially your friend's old piece of junk. The SC was so pioneering when it came out. Your friend's BMW is nothing more than an unreliable German box of metal, in my opinion. Don't forget to remove your spare tire and anything else in the trunk, 1/4 tank of gas is all you need to lighten the car up a bit. And of course remove anything else that isn't bolted down.
  14. Congrats There aren't "cheap" mods. What kind of mods are you looking to do ? Cosmetic, Powertrain etc...
  15. Why don't you guys lay it down and then you can tell us who wins. Welcome to the club
  16. I had my cluster rebuilt at I believe it was lightech. Cost $100.00 and only took about one week. But the temp gauge is reading about 1/8 higher than before. Can I make an adjustment ? You mean I have to turn it 1/4 or 90 degrees, I hink that would be too much You can place the needle anywhere within the 1/4 turn adjustment, Pull it off and put it back on where you want it. It's that easy.
  17. Carbon
  18. I refitted my gauge needles with new SMT LEDs as well (one per needle), and two of the needles (speedo and fuel gauge) were reading low after I reinstalled the cluster. The fuel gauge needle was easy to recalibrate. I just gently moved the tip of the needle with my finger until it was at the right reading. I didn't have to remove it from the face of the gauge. The Speedo needle was a little trickier. It was resting below "0" when the car was stationary. What I had to do was to rebalance the needle by adding weight to the base end so that when the needle was reinstalled, the tip rested right in line with the "0" mark. To do this, I melted a very tiny spot of solder onto the little metal tab at the base of the needle (see photo). Then I reinstalled the needle onto the speedo gauge and tested it. I had to do this probably 4 times, adding a tiny bit more solder each time to the metal tab and retesting it, until the added weight was enough to properly balance the needle. The key is to add just a very small bit of solder at a time and retest it. Adding more solder to achieve the right weight balance is easy. Removing solder (if you add too much) can prove to be not quite so easy. :( If you are able, post some pics of your new needles. I'd be interested to see how they look with the new illumination. How many LEDs did you use for each? If you pull that cover off there is a brass weight behind it. That is the way the needle should be adjusted. I had my cluster rebuilt at I believe it was lightech. Cost $100.00 and only took about one week. But the temp gauge is reading about 1/8 higher than before. Can I make an adjustment ? Yes, There is 1/4 turn adjustment available, You have to pull the needle off and replace it where it belongs. This can be done while the cluster is still in the dash. Remove the cluster molding and you will see 4 phillips screws that hold the plastic cover, Remove the screws and pull the cover off. You will be able to access the needles then. You can even do it when the car is running if you want. Attached is an old needle fix for what it's worth. It is always an option. Fix_for_Lexus_Needles.pdf
  19. Sounds like it could be the amp. Does the radio power up ? no the radio doesnt come on at all thanks 99.9% your radio is dead. You could bring it in to a reputable radio shop and have it checked out. Are you sure you checked all the fuses ? I beleive there are 2 or 3 fuses in the audio system. yea i have check the fuse under the hood and the one located inside the car, if the radio is indeed the problem, will a radio from another ls work due to the anti-thief feature, or is it best to just get an aftermarket radio Yes, Another LS radio will work. Let me know if you need one.
