Hey fellas... I think it is the flex couplings...I did get them off of ebay after all. I'm not up set by any means, well worth the $150 to answer this question of those couplings on ebay for everyone. Sweet, the lurch is reduced, it's more of an engagement now with a slight kick in the pants when cold, not that lunge forward and the tail end squats down like before. ko90ls, yes the flex couplings are the rubber bushings that connect the driveshaft to the rear differential and to the transmission. Car is in the shop now, should beable to post up results tonight.

Quick update #2....might have jumped the gun on my excitement over these ebay parts....went to beach this weekend for batchelor party, car has developed a low pitched humming noise "like a 12 inch subwoofer humming" and a severe and rapid vibration that makes the rear view mirror useless unless I put my hand on it to stop it from vibrating. Car is going back to shop in the morning for reevaluation and possible reinstall of the old couplings. My thinking is improper installation "bolts probably unevenly torqued" creating an uneven "y" plane. Or, "had the 4 wheel alignment and balance last friday morning" and something is off in the back. Vibration is too fast to be a wheel though. As I was pulling out of driveway this morning to drag my hungover !Removed! into the office, the car was cold, and it shoook like beyonce's tail end from 30mph on up. Once it warms up, it gets better, but still there. Something's up in the driveshaft......will try to up date again after tomorrow. wedding is saturday, guests start arriving wednesday...and got a job interview that just poped up last friday for a DREAM JOB in Chapel Hill on Thursday at 3:00......Jeezzzz am I gonna sleep like a champ come sunday during our 15 hour flight to new zealand.

Don't want to leave anyone in suspsense over this one.... Had them replaced yesterday with the ebay ones......WELL WORTH THE MONEY! I can't say if it killed the lurch, I haven't driven the car yet when the engine was cold, but I can say I can definetly feel a difference in the smoothness of the car's operation! Mine had cracks in them that you can't see from just looking at them while they're attached. I had several hairline cracks around the rings. I can confirm the ebay ones are identical to the oem ones! I mean identical in every way! Same rubber feel, same everything. I would not buy the toyota versions at $150 each. Instead, I would buy the ebay ones and save yourself a butt load of money. Blake, at your mileage, there is no doubt in my mind that yours are cracked too, probably a lot more than mine were at 114k miles. I don't think you'll be wasting your money or time at all by doing this project. It's a DIY project "I just didn't have the time". They killed all vibrations from the driveshaft!

Common characteristic throughout the LS line. Big cars, and they catch the wind too easily. My 95' does this too. I would have the car aligned by the dealership before anything else. I seriously doubt you have any bad bushings in the suspension at this time. You've got a good 10 years before that happens.

Hey Morg, just now getting to them today. I had to drop the car off at my indi to do the job as I'm too busy to get to it myself. When I walked in with one in my hand, my mechanic knew exactly what it was, said they've replaced several in the past and knows exactly why. He also knew how expensive they were "oem" and asked me where I got mine. I told him "ebay" and he said "good boy." Not sure what that meant, but this is a small shop that handles all kinds of imports, and for them to know exactly what it was and familiar with it like that, makes me think others have been there already with the same thing. I'll try and post up tonight what the difference is in the shifting and such. Busy as all hell these days.

yeah man, been all over download. com...but reading the user's reviews isn't very comforting.... this thing is old....112 mb of ram...aka...casio watch.... One good thing about the 98 platform is the ability to see the performance tab in my computer.....got the system down to using 24% of resources to run, with full security on a wireless card.

I'm trying to reconfigure a tiny Sony laptop I inherited "thanks Principal Financial ;) " that is a 600 mhz at max. I've got ME on it now. I had XP, but it killed the battery just starting the thing, so I put the oem package on it, and shut everything down that wasn't vital. I currently have Norton 05' Firewall on it, all up to date and such...but it drains the system. Question: Does anyone know of a good free firewall program that will simply monitor and protect incoming and outgoing traffic in an update manner, that won't drain the system? Norton gets all over the place and slows things down. As a trade, I offer you this awesome little program called Net Medic. They don't make this anymore "Havent for YEARS since Lucent bought them out" but it's an awesome little networking monitor device that has never given me one lick of trouble. It'll even tell you where in the pings has the slow down.... It's V. 1.2, and I've had it on all of my computers since the windows 95 days. It will trip your firewall protection when you turn it on. You can tell the firewall to block the communication if you like, and it will still work. I vouch for this program's integrity, and am just passing along a good little something that I've know for years. Please feel free to Yahoo it for reviews first. It's Vital Sign's "Net Medic V. 1.2" PM me you email address and I"ll send it to you via attachment w/ pass key code. PS: It takes me 19 Hops to get to this site....just one of the cool features.

Not in my neck of the woods, ya'll.

Sweet: How many hours labor did they charge your for the replacement of the lower ball joints? Hours each or hours per pair is fine, just let me know which it is. I wouldn't figure but 1 hour each. I changed mine in my driveway two weekends ago with nothing more than a pitman, floor jack and a ton of shop rags "they were torn and oozzing grease". Took no more than 90 minutes total. Of course that could of also been due to the gallon of coffee in my system too. Anymore these days I have to physic myself up into an anger to fix the damn car. Usually requires lots of caffiene or alcohol. I've found I do better work on caffiene than alcohol. hahaha

I agree too! These cars are so well built that it almost REQUIRES human error to break them. Sweet, you're lucky because you found this site, and have the knowledge of true professionals "owners". Tell the service advisor to save the song and dance routine for the other poor saps who don't know this fact, and that you want what you came in there for.

I have noticed over the past several weeks my needle is up about 1 mm from normal too. My theory is this: Summer gas is being introduced. The refineries produce two different types to help combat pollution due to cold air density. My theory is that the summer blend is being reintroduced now to the market and the car is just adjusting to it. Because my thermostat is new as is the housing seal from the dealership.

Sweet, look on your invoice, did they put that BK44 additive in the car?

Here is a picture of my old 99'. Great car. The interior was a bit sparse, especially by today's standards. But would never get stuck, even in deep sand down at the beach.

Driver Side Door Doesn't Have That "thud" Sound
nc211 replied to UltraLexx's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
When I first got my car, the driver's side door would click when you would open it. Mine was in the hinge. Look where the hinge is and you should see a black piece of plastic covering the anchor bolt on the car "not the door". Pop that piece of plastic off and tighten down the bolt. It's an alan wrench, not a normal bolt. I did this, and no more clicking noise. Took 10 minutes.. Rf, interesting!!! My driver's side door doesn't have that feeling anymore either, and the new weahterstrip on the door didn't really fix it "although eliminated all wind noise". The door is coming up on my list of things to tackle. -
I showed this picture to the Mrs... this morning...she was not impressed...which means it's a success!!! Works great for scrambled eggs too!

Hahaha...actually I'm thinking about installing a key-code lock on the shop, and take the access code to my grave, so the "girlie" junk can't infect my last stand of manhood. I call it NC's Alamo! :D

The ones that are on the car now have a folded piece of metal that acts as a spring type mechanism..does that make sense? kind of like the front fitment clips you put on the pads themselves to hold them in place. Except on the rear, the fitment clip is actually on the caliper and not the pad. It confused me last weekend so I didn't replace them. Oh well, but if yours are the smaller ones in the picture, then I guess I have the old ones and they've changed them up over the years.

Good catch DC! Happy Birthday Matthew!

:D i HAVE met you!! You're the guy who says "come back in an hour" so you won't witness the beat-down I've got to do to get that part out! Hahaha. Sundrop = Seafoam for the gut. Mix it with Beam, and your lawn mower will mow the yard by itself! :D In my educational phase here on LOC, I've invested in the pitman, which has made my life sooo much easier.

What's inside those binders? Your daily journals? Close....the repair manuals for the car, piece by piece... The shop building itself isn't much...but I love hanging out in there, especially in the fall. I've got a heater out there. I love "tinkering" on saturdays in November with the heater going, a 6 pack, football game on the tube and no cell phone reception "cause it's turned off!"

my alignemtn is way off now! The wheel is about 2 inches to the left. Blake, don't tell me you guys don't have Sundrop down there?? Man, that stuff is golden!! I tell you no lies, here is a photo of Cameron's diet Sundrop in the fridge. www.sundrop.com If you're ready, call "our" buddy "Jim" and have yourself a "SunBeam"...Mason Jar required... ;) GREAT for hurricane clean up.....tried and true...trust me :D

Having fun with the camera....here's a couple quick pic's of my tool shop where I tweak with the car...And spend my time when I'm in trouble from spending too much time on here, instead of with the "boss"... She hasn't found the cot yet...hahaha. I need a dorm fridge....got wireless internet already, and feeding the tv off of the neighbor's cable "shhhh" :whistles:
