  1. I do feel a bit safer when drivers near me do not chirp on the phone, tap on the navigation and play with their messages while driving... I am not surprise at how dumbfounded some people are when it come to basic common sense.
  2. How did you check the bulb and how do you know if it's OK?
  3. Perhaps BMW or Caddy would suit you better? All belts and chains will break at some point. It's the question of when? :D
  4. Yep, use Mercon III ATF in Ls' power steering.
  5. parts dot com and pick an OEM dealer.
  6. How long pad last depends on the road, driving habit and car weight. 17K isn't too bad for the unfortunate ones.
  7. I am very weary of extreme low mileage and 38K for 15 years old is extreme. It is possible to tinker with the odometer and not leave any trace even in Carfax.
  8. Both ECU & engine are the factors, and ECU replacement is the fix assuming the engine isn't out of wack. I found the TSBs on my AllData CD, and, the last time I checked, they were also readily available online and at the dealers. Check engine error codes first before doing any repair.
  9. If your starter is really dead, it is like asking the smart ones to raise the deads. Goodluck!
  10. Yep, early 90 is what I thought. Your problem lies in the ECU exasterbated by high mileage so checkout the TSB for your year.
  11. More often than not we cannot diferentiate incompetents from crooks.
  12. Honestly, I reused those those clips after inspecting them, but I don't advocate others to do the same.
  13. Sure, but then most other car repairs are also DIY. It all depends on your skills and willingness to tackle challenges. I rented those tools at AutoZone and they worked well, but don't expect the job to be a walk in the park for newbies.
  14. Not quite unless he has new spring cushions to go with the new spring/shock assemblies.
  15. You're jumping from one old ship to another unknown old ship and it doesn't sound like much improvement to me. Who knows when your newer old ship will start to sink and how much it would cost to fish her up? High mileage cars that appear to be in good shape can quickly turn around and bite a good fortune ($$$) in relatively short amount of time. If you like to gamble and think you might win in the end then go for it. Goodluck!
  16. How hard is it to ID the two pins on the connector and jump them? They are clearly labeled. The ECU is trying to tell you something is wrong :chairshot: so do it a favor and....
  17. Don't forget to ask in Volvo forums and let us know the results.
  18. Inside transmission case? Definitely not! Two ways to get to the starter: from the top as suggested by the mechanic or bottom with trans out of the way.
  19. According to Kelly Blue book, $10.5K for that 95 is a very sour deal.
  20. Looks like you got a great deal. Now, how to get registered at the auction and/or dealer's license? Anyone know is a simplest way?
  21. I didn't notice any steering problem before I replaced the ball joints. Oh yes, they were shot with ~1/16" play in them.
  22. Do you mind posting the auction price for us to envy?
