  1. sk, this is the problem with diagnostics. people think we hook up this magic machine that tells us the problem. as you know, that is just the jumping off point. it still amazes me how many people, professionals included, that change oxygen sensors because they pull a rich or a lean code.
  2. the 2 middle ones are a lot of fun. i would highly suggest changing the wires since you'll be in there. btw, dump the bosch plugs and get some nippendenso's or ngk's. also the cap and rotor are pretty cheap as well, just a thought.
  3. out the door a bosch reman starter install would cost about $300 at my shop with a 2 year warranty. and he charged $200 to replace the contacts in yours?
  4. True, but not really....The lexus SC400 calipers should not go out, I owned a used dealer ship for a few years and bought and sold altleast 50 or more SC400 and LS400 and some with super high mileage too. Not one ever had a caliper piston problem...Also I know a few heads in the lexus dealership and they tell me the calipers are very solid...If any are to go bad it would usually be the fronts as they support nearly 75% of the cars breaking power, and the rears contribute to only around 25%...Any used SC4 rear brake caliper should be in good shape 99% of the time...Your failed rear caliper is very uncommon....Just my 2 cents... Rebuilding to new status is a good idea, however I am wondering if there is manufacturing defect going on with your single rear caliper..Hope the problem doesn't come back after rebuilding....How many miles are on your car? i actually had a lr caliper go bad on a 95 sc3 i owned. i had 3 sc3's and 1 sc4 and that was the only caliper problem.
  5. about 1 year with the dc14 animal and we love it. got a pretty kickass deal on it as well. paid around $400 w/tax.
  6. premium...use 91 if you can find it. everything around here is 93. if you have to worry about premium prices, well then.....
  7. yep cannister is most common, get it changed soon before you need the vacuum switching valve as well (if not already) up near the air cleaner. just for fun i'd also make sure the vacuum lines at the vsv (near air filter) are in place. i've seen many of these knocked off by places like jiffy lube.
  8. yep, gotta love toyota's embrace of the obd2 program early. sounds like a classic case of a torn intake air boot.
  9. check your caps lock key, i think its stuck :whistles:
  10. shouldn't be too expensive, i'd say no more than 1 hour labor time.
  11. wow, you didn't check the battery 1st.
  12. not to say the fuel filter isn't bad, but i can count on one hand the number of cars i have repaired because of a bad fuel filter in the last ten years. in a modern car it is extremely hard for something to make it all the way to the fuel filter to clog it. in fact honda no longer recommends changing theirs.
  13. not to sound like a smartass, but i would of consulted a wiring diagram before i touched the first wire. remember wiring diagrams aren't not only for fixing problems but preventing them as well.
  14. you might of shorted the switch??? its very hard to say. i would get a wiring diagram and start tracing wires.
  15. bosal and davico list it. imo noth these brands are better than walker.
  16. the warranty starts from the "in service date" this is the date the car left the dealership to the first owner. this had nothing to do with when the car was serviced.
  17. yep, last one i had was a 95 with all the toys. i'd still like to have one to ride in the summer.
  18. start with getting the tires balanced properly
  19. carfax isn't end all be all. there are a lot of factors it doesn't take into account.
  20. wow, my cost from my local import part company is way way lower. plus they have 2 sets in stock. guess the internet isn't what it used to be.
  21. hard to say, every car is a case by case study at that mileage. you will save a lot of cash, no doubt, but be prepared to put a little cash into it as well.
  22. for that price i can't see why you were debating. believe me, if they weren't needed lexus wouldn't put them on. imagine a piece of debris coming up at just the right angle to pierce something important.
  23. iirc, from the few gs3's i've driven, don't they have a little more pick and go on the highway? for some reason i haven't had the chance to drive many of them vs. the 400/430's
  24. yep, i can understand. i took about 18 months for me to find the exact one i wanted, that wasn't abused.
  25. besides lexus??? the only thing i can think of is try calling some salvage yards to see if they have a bad engine, because chancea are they won't sell one off a good engine.
