  1. well bando is the oem belt, but according to that you get either a bando, flenner or conti belt. now conti belts are good but oem is oem. never heard of flenner. as for the pump gmb makes a great water pump and is oem on certain vehicles. seems to me that you actually don't know what you're getting until you get it.
  2. look at it this way... if you change it now you know your safe and the cost can be controlled. if you wait and something happens, you might have to pay for an upper engine rebuild on top of paying for the belt. either way you still have to pay for the belt.
  3. anyone have a lf door speaker for a nakamichi system? email me if anyone has one aiezzi225@gmail.com
  4. chains are also heavier than belts. this is one of the reasons most mfgs used them for years. i'm sure that they are a lot lighter these days than the old chevy 350's of days gone by. anywhere they can save weight... as of 2002 the new 2.4 motor has a chain. the 3.3 still had a belt though. i'm pretty sure you'll see them phasing the belt out over the years.
  5. there's a RPM sensor on the compressor that might be going bad. first i would check to make sure the connection is good and there are no problems with the wiring. next make sure the belt tensioner is working properly, these have been know to fail. if all is well then pop a new belt on it and cross your fingers, because it could still be something else. also if you're bringing it to lexus or a repair facility with the proper diagnostic equipment, i'm sure the problem can be quickily found using the mastertech.
  6. yes they changed them. they were quiet to begin with and got quieter with time. just went through this with my 2000 gs4. i replaced it with a new one from lexus and it is much better now as it was to the point it stopped making any sound at all. i highly doubt it can be bought anywhere else as it is an electronic flasher not and old style 552.
  7. don't believe that insurance shops are any better. these shops have to give discounts to get in the program and these "discounts" get passed onto you in the form of them trying to cut corners. also as soon as they said they would save you your deductible you should of ran like hell. a deductible can't be "saved" it has to be made up somewhere. usually that somewhere is in the form of shoddy work or out of the shop owner's pocket. there's "no free lunch" anywhere. what you want is a shop that is up front, is willing to work for "you" with the insurance company, not the other way around. it might cost more and you will have to pay your deductible, but the car will come out right. those tow truck drivers that towed you in work on a commision based upon the value of the job, usually 10%. they will say anything and i mean anything, to get you on their hook. sorry you had to learn the hard way. that's why its best to investigate repair facilities when you don't need them, that way your prepared when you do. just like a doctor. hope some of this helped.
  8. the relay for the heater circuit is most likely bad. about $45 from yota
  9. the oil control valve for the vvt-i system is bad on that bank. you can try cleaning it, but they don't cost all that much.
  10. they probably had problems because of the flush machine that was used. most flush machines "power" flush the tranny which is bad if the pressure isn't correct. the machine i have uses the vehicle's own pump to flush it so no damage can be done.
  11. yep and i've been saying this for years. just a waste of money imo. find the car you want and have it checked by someone you trust and knows something about the car. this way you'll save a few thousand up front. people always talk about the cpo adding resale value but you're paying more upfront so whats the difference.
  12. what i ment was ..what does Catalytic Converter do to a car performence or gas milage? mine is about 16 years old car ... is it necessery to replace one of em told me passenger side one is no good ! that "?" mark was to find out what converter you were talking about. the catalytic converter isn't the only converter on a car. google catalytic converter and you'll learn more than you ever wanted to know B)
  13. Well if you want Lev, you're gonna have to get nav. i know, you said this before and i checked lexus.com...just stating i don't like nav.
  14. watch yourself with the k&n oil. make sure the filter is nice and dry or the oil can damage the MAF.
  15. personally i can't stand nav, just a preference, but the lev is a must. question??? anyone know if the sport edition isn't limited to 130mph like the regular suspension? it calls for W rated tires, which would indicate a speed of 168 iirc even though i'm sure lexus would top it at 149 like the gs. typically vehicles are speed limited to the tire rating as per legal requirements so i'm wondering if lexus took this into account with the sport suspension.
  16. anyone know if the euro sport edition really makes a difference?
  17. the rear (post cat) sensor should not move. it should stay relatively in the center showing the cat actually did its job. if the rear sensor is fluctuating then it is reflecting the cat didn't clean a damn thing.
  18. sounds about right to me. i get about that in my gs400. remember gas mileage has a lot to do with how you actually drive the car. oh and that little sticker they put on the window when its new...just toss those numbers to the wind.
  19. you know what i completely forgot about the 6 speed. the rear looks better on the 04 but i'm not sold on the front. but the 6 speed is the real selling point. as for the lev...in 2003 it was offered w/o the navi.
  20. i'm looking to trade my 2000 gs4 in for a ls430 and can't decide on whether i want a 2003 or 2004. the 2004 was the year they updated the body and a few other things iirc. just looking for some input. obviously a 2003 will be slightly less, but the difference in price really doesn't matter all that much so don't make that part of your equation. also i'm not looking for an ultra edition as i can't get my wife to drive me around ...i'm actually more inclined to go with the sport edition w/levinson. i could care less about nav unless its the only way i can get one. thanks for any input!!!
  21. i have one made by midtronics. they make the most forward thinking battery testers out there and i would argue the best. mine was about $1200. there's no comparison between a quality digital battery tester and an old fashion load tester or a dvom.
  22. make sure you get at least one master key with that used ecu, if not you're SOL. the older lexus ecu's cannot be erased even with the factory scan device (i have one). the newer ones you can erase all the keys and program a whole new set if needed.
  23. JP, how about when the parts they bring are wrong or defective and now the car is stuck on the rack using up space.
