  1. If you are interested in troubleshooting it yourself, find and download the 99 RX repair manual on this site. It has a pretty good section on troubleshooting ABS problems.
  2. I don't think there is an automatic headlight sensitivity adjustment. I do see where the 1999 service manual talks about the procedure being in the adjustments section, but it is not there. I then checked the 2003 repair manual. It tells you how to check the automatic headlight sensor to verify it is working but no longer makes mention of any adjustment. Page 185 of the 1999 service manual covers radio removal and it isn't much. 2003 service manual just lists the radio as one of the instrument panel components and you have to follow steps for instrument panel removal (not much better).
  3. Irontoad and newlexusparts.com are both Lexus dealers that discount parts online. I have used both in the past.
  4. First observe the security light to the left of the steering column. It should be flashing before you insert the key. Once you turn the key to the on position the flashing should stop. If it continues to flash, the engine imobilizer is not allowing the engine to start. If so, try a spare key or disconnect the battery for a few minutes and try again. If it's not the security light thing try pushing on the accelerator when starting. If this gets it going it is most likely the Idle Air Control Valve which needs cleaning. Do a search here for "IACV", "starting issues", or "idle air control valve" for lots of info.
  5. When you are doing the WD40 routine try tapping on the key with the handle of a medium sized screwdriver. It worked for others.
  6. OK, I fianally got the download, but alas, I can not open it as I am on a Mac and the 7zip file only works for Windows. Anyone have this as a pdf? If someone can send it to me, I will re-post on a site that anyone can download from with no expiration date. Or if you want to post it there the site is: www.divshare.com Thanks in advance!! PDF is now on divshare and will expire in 7 days. here's the link: http://www.divshare.com/download/774779-94a
  7. Common problem. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...l=lock+cylinder Yes, I read that post & one at Club Lexus, but none of the suggestions worked and as far as I remember, the only solution was one person having the dealer replace all of their locks (fortunately for that person, they were under warranty, but my car isn't); I don't think the other said how they resolved the issue. I'm going to call a locksmith tomorrow to see if they can do anything about it. :( The RX is overly sensitive to having the wrong key inserted. This has happened to others before. There were a couple of suggestions in past posts of tapping the lock, wiggling the key, using WD40 etc. If none of these work one solution is to have it towed to the dealer who will usually change the ignition lock and then change all the others so the key matches. I think others have paid around $800 for this. I had the same thing happen to my Olds Alero. Only I didn't insert a wrong key. It just failed. Here is my experience, which may help you. I called a couple of the larger locksmith ads in the yellow pages that advertise they do all automotive ignitions. They all said $500 to $600 and could do it that day or next. What I did realize is that most of these ads with local numbers are actually national brokers who farm the work out to a local guy. I already knew the dealer would need to tow it in and get over $600 for the job from reading posts on Alero/GrandAm forums. I then went to my local locksmith who doesn't do automotive work. He gave me name of a local guy he uses for all auto work. This guy came to the house next day and was done in a little over an hour at a cost of $370. He also was able to key the new lock cylinder to use my existing keys, something the dealer can't do without a locksmith or changing all the locks. It was a fairly complex job getting the lock cylinder out.
  8. Check here. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...15&start=15
  9. You may have an ABS wheel speed sensor that is slightly out of calibration/position. At higher speeds if a wheelspeed sensor signal "drops" out while you're on the brake... Pull the ABS fuse and take a drive.. Lets hope he got it fixed by now. You are replying to a post that is 2 years old.

  11. RX often has problems like this without the battery showing any other signs of failure. There have even been cases of the battery testing ok by a auto repair shop but still causing similiar problems. I am not sure if this is one of the characteristics of the original Panasonic battery or a characteristic of the RX sensitive electronics. You didn't mention it, but I bet your clock is also resetting. This almost always is caused by the battery.

  13. My bad, I am always thinking RX300. If that's the case, I don't know which Michelins you have. But I would check their ratings at Tire Rack and if they are really that bad go for 4 new tires.
  14. My opinion is that you could most likely get away with this but it is wrong for many different reasons. I will go into one. Those that are saying this is ok to do are basing everything on driving and stopping in a straight line. I don't even agree with that but for now lets assume that is ok. Did anyone even consider handling going around corners and the Vehicle Skid Control System? A quote directly from your owner’s manual: The size, manufacturer, brand and tread pattern for all 4 tires should be the same. If you use tires other than specified, or different type or size, the vehicle skid control system may not function correctly." The thing here is how different do they have to be before you may notice a problem during an emergency maneuver. I don't believe any of us here can really answer that. I wouldn't want to be the one to find out just to save a few bucks on tires. If your Michelins are Cross Terrains you already have one of the quietest, best handling and wearing tires for the RX. I am on my second set and will soon be ordering my third. But I don't want to turn this into a Cross Terrain vs. Bridgestone thread. Do a search for that. We have discussed pros and cons over and over. If you really want the Bridgestone’s, rotate you Michelins once, finish them off, and get a set of 4 Bridgestone’s. Or just get 4 Bridgestone’s now.
  15. The parts system is not that complicated. All Lexus parts come from Toyota. The same part number is used by both Toyota and lexus. For example rear pad set part #044466-33050 will show up in the Lexus parts system as a rear pad set for a 99-2001 RX 300. If entered in the Toyota system is shows up as a rear pad set for a Toyota Highlander 4 cyl. As long as you have the part # from lexus you can use it at Toyota if there is a Toyota model that uses the same part. This is not always the case. For example the 99-01 RX front pad set is not used on any of the Toyota models so the part # shows up invalid in the Toyota system. You need to do your homework on the many online parts sites before visiting the Toyota parts counter, otherwise he will just turn you away claiming you have a Lexus part number. And, yes, the 'free loaner" is in reality the most expensive rental you will ever drive.
  16. Done. You have a file or files called RX Repair Manual.pdf (1 file(s)) waiting for download. You can click on the following link to retrieve your File. The link will expire in 7 days and will be available for 100 number of downloads. Link: http://www.yousendit.com/download/UW16MWZHcWZ5UkUwTVE9PQ
  17. The above link has expired. Waiting for awgneo from above to host file.
  18. I think I figured out how the Toyota/Lexus part numbers interact. Both Lexus and Toyota are using the same part numbers. But here's the catch. If I enter the rotor part number you supplied above in a Lexus parts system, it comes back as a RX front rotor for $118. If I enter the same number in a Toyota parts system it comes back as a 06 Highlander Hybrid front rotor for $98. Now if I try the same thing with 04465-48060 which is a 01RX front pad set, it works in the Lexus parts system but shows up as invalid in the Toyota parts system. The reason being that that pad set is not used on any Toyota models. The rear pad set part # works on both systems because the same pad is used for the RX and Highlander 4 cyl. So it looks like any Lexus exclusive part is not in the Toyota parts system even though in reality it is made by Toyota. And of course the oil filter # you supplied above is used in many different Lexus and Toyota models so it shows up on both systems.
  19. Sorry about the search problem. I guess I should have tried it before suggesting it. Anyway, here is a link to a lengthy discussion about the wrong key problem with some lubricant suggestions near the end. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...light=wrong+key
  20. Everyone who has posted a email address as of yesterday has received the file. It should be on the yousendit site 2 more days before they delete it. If anyone else wants it just go to the link below. yousendit will force you to create a free account then you can download it. awgneo, if you have another site where you can post it that would be great. http://download.yousendit.com/2E6BFF7C272FF5D0
  21. Lexus OEM pads come in a red box imprinted with Toyota logo all over it with a sticker displaying the Lexus (not Toyota) part #. That is a TM manufactured part and available at any TM dealer with that number !The number may "go" to a Lexus but the number is in every TM parts terminal as a Toyota part number. I was unable to source these from Toyota using that number. Toyota said it was a Lexus part # and while the same part may exist under a Toyota # there is no cross reference. If your boxes have a Lexus part number on them, I bet your Toyota dealer just sourced them from Lexus. Do you have any further info that may help? What part # is on the box? By using original manufacturing numbers stamped on the pad frames I was able to determine the RX rear pads are the same as a 4 cyl Highlander but was never able to find a match for the RX front pads.
  22. You were very lucky that your wife got it to work. This is a common problem with the 99RX after someone inserts the wrong key. Others have spent big bucks at the Lexus dealer to have ignition lock cylinders replaced after inserting the wrong key. Do a search here and over at CL on "wrong key" to see the experiences of others. And to answer your question there is no delay lock after inserting the wrong key. The wrong key moves a lock cylinder wafer into a position where it sticks or sometimes bends the wafer so the correct key will no longer work. Sometimes you are lucky and get it back. Other times the cylinder needs replacement. Also don't know how much you spent for a key, but over at CL someone just posted a link for a new RXkey cut to your VIN complete with shipping for $69.
  23. Yes, I can't agree with you more about women now having a much larger part of the market. It's just no longer in a Ford Explorer.
  24. Yes. $45 from Irontoad. Rear Lexus part # is 04466-33050. These are for a 2001 RX300.
