  1. I was just like you a few years back. I have had all the cars mentioned, Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Saab, etc and Lexus is by far the best car I have owned. It is not the most stylish of the cars but holds its own. The build quality is far superior to all the luxury cars I have owned. Unless something changes I will be a Lexus owner for life. Congrats on your new purchase.
  2. Just had the oil changed in my 00 LS400 at an independent shop that specializes in foreign cars.. He allowed me to stay in the work area and shot the bull with him. He is very particular and careful as he does his work. He has attention to detail also. It is the little things that impress me. HE wiped out the funnel before using it, washed his hands before getting in my car, etc. He charged me $56.00 dollars for Mobil 1 synthetic and used a NAPA Gold filter, toped off any fluids and checked my breaks, any wear on belts, front end, reset my service light, etc. I dont do dealerships because of the prices and the stuffy atmosphere.
  3. I just bougt a 2000 LS400 Platinum Edition with Nav for around the same price with 89k miles on it. I would not be afraid of the mileage myself but then again I would buy one with the least amount of miles I could find in my budget. I have seen some low miles LS go for around the same price or less. Yes, these cars are more than capable of 300k miles with little problems. My last LS400 had 218k and still ran strong. Be sure and check Edmunds.com for a pricing guide. I would also recommend taking any car you are serious about buying to a local Lexus dealer for a pre purchase inspection. While that is no guarantee it sure makes me feel better. Good luck with your purchase and you will be more than happy with a Lexus if you get a good one. I did a check on Edmunds on the car but it is hard to tell for sure because I dont have all the details about the car (color, equipment, etc) but it looks to be priced right.
  4. I recently bought a 2000 LS400 and it only came with one master key. I knew if I lost that key it would be a BIG hassle and BIG money like 1k dollars to get a replacement. So after some research I found a blank key on EBay for $9.95 plus $7.49 shipping. After getting the key I took my master key and had the blank cut at a local Lexus dealer for $10.00 for a TOTAL of $27.44. If you do this you will still need to program the new key. The company I bought my blank from sent directions how to program the new key. Programming can be a pain but it can be done. It took me like 10 try’s but got it done. I highly recommend doing this so you are not stuck without an extra key. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...em=300159682764
  5. My 2000 LS had the same problem and I found a quick fix. Right at the point were the two wipers smack together I put a small piece of rubber. I simply super glued a small square rubber piece onto the bottom wiper which is the passanger side wiper. It is not perfect but I can say if it only had the noise it makes now I would not even noticed it as something was wrong.
  6. If it is an after market tint it can be peeled off then use WD40 to remove the residue. It is a hard job but can be done. I am not 100% sure if it would do any damage to your strips or not so you might want to research that a little more. I have removed tint using the method I explained.
  7. He has a 1st gen, programming the key via those instructions will not work as they are for 3rd gen (?) I think you have to have both the key and the receiver coded at Lexus to get a new key working, might not be worth it. all it does is unlock the door, you can get an entire car alarm with door locking for the same price. Ahhhh....Sorry did not pay attention to that.
  8. They are some people that advertise on this site that may can help. http://www.toy-lex.com/programming.html explains how to program a new key. Does the key you have open every door and trunk as well as crank your car? If so then you may have a copy of the master key but without the keyless entry feature. I recently bought a key off Ebay and am going to try and get it cut locally and then follow the directions posted on that site to program it so I will have an extra key.
  9. I have a 2000 LS Platinum Edition with stock wheels. I like the stock wheels but they have some curb rash and such. I can get a set of replacement stock wheels in chrome very resonable. What do you guys thing about a stock chrome wheel? To much bling? I like nice things (Lexus) but I am not a bling kinda guy. What do you guys think?
  10. Keep checking bulbs. Same thing happen to me 94LS and it took me a year to figure out which bulbs it was. Just happen both bottom bulbs closet to the LP were burnt out. So if you didnt know that those two sections had bulbs you wouldnt replace them. It even pass an NC state inspection with both bulbs out because they couldnt tell. Also if an bulb is sometimes working it will cause the dash light to come on and stay on untill the bulb is replaced. If you have seen an buld filiment that when you taped on it would work then that is what I am talking about. If you have to just replace all the bulbs with new ones. It is real cheap to do that and I bet your dash light goes out. Good luck...
  11. Lexol has great products but it want fix craked leather.
  12. Not sure if these guys or someone similar are in your area but they do leather restoration. If you do a search in this forum I have saw the whole process talked about and shown with the correct products. http://www.myinteriormagic.com/services.htm
  13. I had the same problem with my 94ls. I replaced both front rotors and pads and the problem went away. The wobble can vary based on speed and the heating of rotors. Before I got mine fixed I was coming down an mountain and it felt like it was going to shake the whole front end off. After I got to the bottom and the brakes cooled off it was much better but still had a wobble certain times. My 2000 ls is doing the exact same thing now so it I am going to replace both rotors with slotted and grooved rotors and go with ceramic pads. These can be found on EBay at a fraction of replacements at AutoZone. I have never like turning rotors unless I knew for a fact it was the first and only time they had been turned and even then I really didn’t like it. If you have them turned and they are warped you might not turn enough to get that wobble out. They may look good but you really just resurfacing them. Hope this helps.
  14. I assume your handset is in the center compartment, I had one in my 94 LS also. I simply took the handset out and cut the wires and pushed them down in the hole that was cut for the wires and took off the antena and pushed that wire behind the molding. I never had a problem with my radio.
  15. When was the last time you changed your plugs, wires, air filter? My 94 did something similar and after changing those things it ran fine. Could also be a throttle postion sensor or as you said air flow meter. What you have explained sounds much like what was wrong with mine. However my cats would glow after awhile because of the lack of the right amount of spark.
  16. I painted my 94 LS Coach edition wheels and they looked pretty good. I bought some paint from Auto Zone made for wheels. I was actually pleased with them. If you decide to give it a try be sure and buy the clear that is for wheels also and put it on. Might as well give it a shot for around $10/30 bucks befor you buy.
  17. I am guessing it is from the AC my 2000 LS leaks ALOT of water when running the AC. After the car sits over night I would make sure the AC is turned off before you crank your car and let it run for awhile and ck it. If you dont see any water then turn on the AC and you see it that will answer that.
  18. Is your power steering leaking? If so it may be starting to short out your altenator from dripping on it. Mine would act real funky on real cold days but fine on hot days even with a new battery. Are you sure it dose not work at all or just the needels are not lite? Needles light up , but they do not move (gas and Tach) . They worked fine until car went dead. Power steering is not leaking. How long has it been this way? Have you driven it much since it started doing it? My 94 did some funky stuff like that before and just fixed itself after a little while. Some of the other folks might have a better answer but I am not real sure what would fix it.

  20. Yea, who really knows the long term. It did get me by for awhile. NC law says no moisture in lens to pass inspection. Like I said mine had about 1/4" of water standing in the bottom of the head lamp. Who knows but it worked for me???
  21. After I did it I never had a problem at all. Never even had to replace a single bulb, I ran it with the holes for a year or better. Even if for some reason it didnt work just put a dap of silicon to seal back the holes and take a different approach.

  23. I thought wd40 and auto paint didn't get along too well. Goof Off works fine though. I havent heard that... I used wd40 on my peral white 94 ls to remove the gold badges and replaced with silver. Worked great and no problems what so ever.
  24. WD40 and your finger nail. just keep spraying and let it sit for awhile then keep repeating till its gone. Wipe off residue and clean then wash the surface. Dry real well and clean again with rubbing alcohol and then apply new badges.
  25. I had this ame problem with my 94 LS. Matter of fact it had about 1/4" of water standing in the bottom of it. I took a tiny drill bit and drilled a few holes in the very bottom of the light. All the water drained out and it was as clear as a bell in a few days. No moisture what so ever. When I say tiny bit I mean real tiny. Hope this helps.
