  1. I just got back from the Toyota dealer. Just recently I had the starter replaced and both TPS sensors replaced. The tech said that the idle was fine when he hooked it up to the computer. It was at 715 rpms, but when the ac is turned on it idles at around 583-600 rpms. But the engine is auctually idling higher than what is showing on the hand-held computer. I also have the TRAC light on. On the invoice it says "Not getting correct Tach signal". Also the car doesn't get above 1500 rpms before it shifts in any gear. They said they didn't know and told me to take it to the Lexus dealer. The engine sounds like it idling too high, but the computer would ready 715 rpms. Can Lexus pull a code from the TRAC light being on. The check engine light isn't on but the "TRAC" lights comes on and stays on.
  2. I was trying to put in the TPS sensor, by doing it the easiest way but probably the wrong way. I put matchmarks on the old one and the throttle body, and then on the new one. I don't think its adjusted correctly. Idle seems too high. Can anyone give me any advice on how to adjust this. Do a need a multi-meter. Also, would it cause any damage to anything if its not correctly adjusted if I need to drive it?
  3. Looks like a $50 difference per strut between the years of 92-94 and 97-00. The 92-94 models being the more expensive part. I would check some aftermarket companies that manufacture shocks and struts and see if they list different part numbers for the different generations. They might list the years 92-99 for the rears and then you'll know the oem lexus 97+ would fit on the years prior to 97. 97-00 models listed for $94 each and the 92-94 listed for $154 each. But like I've said I'm only sure about the front fitting properly.
  4. At first I thought it was a misprint, but its the real price. I purchased mine from Lexus of Pembroke Pines over the internet.
  5. Would a pickle fork damage the boots? Is that only for ball joints that are already bad? There's just not enough room to use the pitman arm puller in the rear as there is in the front suspension.
  6. They only charged like $300 for labor and then $310 for parts. I think the labor rate is close to $90/hr. I'm just glad the starter is done with and I don't have to break my back trying to get it out. I wish they would of provided a list of the gaskets on the bill that they had to replace so I could post the entire list of part numbers as a reference for others.
  7. Yep, there listed for the 97-00 sc300 & sc400 models. I put them on my 94 sc400 like I said and they are identical to the 94 year shock. You shouldn't have any problems. They should fit all sc300 and sc400's. Saved a lot of money and still am keeping the oem lexus ride quality. This is only for the front. Can't beat $38.72 for an oem lexus strut.
  8. Thats what I was told from a mechanic. We'll see if it works.
  9. I have found that the KYB GR2 struts are still a little too stiff even though many have said they still have a very good ride quality. I don't like them as much as the oem lexus shock. I own a 94 and the struts listed for my car are over $170 each. Now here's the funny thing, the struts for the 97-00 model sc's are the same thing. Maybe slightly different in build quality but feel just the same as the other 92-94 oem struts. The price is no where close in comparison. OEM 97-00 model struts for $38.00 each from a Lexus dealer! They feel really nice too.
  10. I am currently working on swapping out my bad right rear hub assembly for a good one. I thought the hardest part was going to be getting the axle nut off which is 213 ft/lb torque. That took maybe 5 minutes to do. In the process of removing the rear lower control arms I found it nearly impossible to disconnect them using a pitman arm puller. There's just not enough room to use that thing. So I'm trying to find out what to use. Should I just use a pickle fork or is there something else I can use that won't damage the rubber boots on the control arms.
  11. Talked to the mechanic and the other techs were laughing at him while he was the one that had to change it. Sounded like it was his first 1UZ starter replacement.
  12. Found out its the main TPS sensor which is to the left of the other TPS sensor on the throttle body. Thanks
  13. Thats what they quoted before they scratched up the fenders.
  14. Recently found out when the Toyota dealer was replacing my starter that the TPS sensor is going bad or already is bad. But, they didn't tell which one. According to my parts manual there are two TPS sensors (atleast on the models with TRAC control. Does one fail more often than the other. The parts book states one is the TPS and the other is TPS (for EFI). Thanks in advance.
  15. I had new reman. Denso starter installed at my local toyota dealer for a very low price of $640.00. Excellent Price, but they scratched up both of my fenders pretty bad, I guess they didn't put any protective cover over the fenders. They will be fixing that along with the dent in my door. There's always something. For some reason my remote start doesn't work now either. Probably their fault as well... Otherwise I thought I got a great deal. Lexus dealer quoted $1050 parts and labor. So I saved about $400.00 by going to Toyota.
  16. I just bought a used right rear hub assembly and from turning the hub I know how a used one feels like. Was wondering if anyone could describe what a new hub assy should feel like. For instance, should I be able to spin the hub freely in a spinning motion with a quick turn of the wrist? The used one I bought it turns freely but its not smooth enough to rotote/spin on its own with a quick turn of the wrist.
  17. If the brake dust is excessive it may be from the use of aftermarket pads. Also you may want to check the pads to see if they are wearing evenly on both sides.
  18. I would have to recommend getting the Sylvania Silver Star Ultra's. I put those in my high beams and I have an HID system in my low beams.
  19. Your car has rotors in the rear. OEM rotors dont rust as some aftermarket rotors. Also Brembo rotors that are plated hold up extremely well against rust. I don't think the transmission would work, someone else will probably know for sure.
  20. I've heard you should wait to allow the new paint to set up.
  21. I would only buy from this guy if I were you...if you want high quality and a great price. He's on ebay. Thats his store. Very good prices and oem lexus ballasts and philips hid rebased bulbs. http://motors.search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZintegra9006hid I bought mine from him a couple of years ago and still no problems at all. Great deal..
  22. I get the shocks on Tuesday, but the car will be in the body shop for 3 more weeks. I still can't believe $38/shock. I have Supra control arms so hopefully the oem 97-00 model shocks will pair up nicely with them. I've read that the 97+ lexus lower control arm bushings look alot like the supra bushings.
  23. Sounds like lower control arm bushings and also check the condition of the shocks. Also how long have you owned the car and how many miles are on the car? And how old are the tires?
  24. I've never known a Lexus shock/strut to be only $38 though. The 92-94 model SC are $144 each and the 97+ are $38 each? Something can't be right... But like I said I ordered the 97+ struts for $38 a piece. We'll see...
