  1. You will need 22270-50010 thats for 90-92 LS400 & SC400. P/N 22270-50020 is for 93-97 LS400 and Sc400's. Confirm with dealer just to be sure. Not sure if the 93-97 iacv would fit 90-92, i'm guessing it wouldn't but I could be wrong.
  2. Well, today I swapped throttle bodies. Originally when I first got my car back from the Toyota dealer after replacing my starter the idle speed was too low and the car was shaking. They said the TPS sensor that was bad was probably causing the low idle. So I replaced the tps sensor and the idle speed was at 1000 rpms. I took the car back to the toyota dealer and they didn't know why the engine was idling so high. They told me to take it to Lexus. So I took it to Lexus and they said I needed a new throttle body. I bought one used off of ebay with 77,000 miles on it and swapped out throttle bodies today. Now... the engine idle is not at 1000 rpms and the engine does seem to idle down as it warms up from being cold. The only problem now is that the idle speed is too low and the car shakes. It now idles around 400-500 rpms which I believe is causing it to shake. It doesn't stall out, but the idle is very low. Any thoughts on this?
  3. After I had my starter replaced I had a low idle speed and the car was shaking slightly. My check engine light was on and I needed to replace the TPS sensor. The Toyota service advisor said the low idle speed and shaking was probably due to the TPS sensor going bad. So I bought a new TPS sensor. After installing the sensor my idle speed was around 1000 rpms. I took the car back to Toyota and the mechanic wasn't sure why it was idling high. Then, I took the car to the Lexus dealer and they told me I needed a new throttle body. Also, the engine wouldn't idle down going from cold-warm. The idle stayed steady at 1000 rpms even after it warmed up. So I bought a used throttle body which included the TPS sensors, etc. Today, I swapped out my throttle body with the used one i bought. So I started the engine and it wasn't idling as high as it was before. Then after a couple minutes the idle started to drop as it was warming up. The only bad thing was the idle went down too low and its at 400-500 rpms and now the car is shaking again. So now its doing the same exact thing as when I first got it back from Toyota after they replaced the starter. I don't know if its the computer that adjusts and makes the idle speed go up to a 1,000 rpms? I will be closely monitoring what happens over the next few days if the idle speed changes or if the computer seems to make any adjustments.
  4. I was experimenting tonight and I turned on the a/c which made the rpm's drop, then the rear defroster, headlights, high beams, blower motor on high, and four way flashers. As I turned on each one the rpms lowered each time. Then when I began to turn everything off one by one the rpms raised ever so slightly. I used to hate to see the check engine light come on, now I wish it would come on to tell me whats wrong with the car. So it seems its not compensating for the extra load. Recently, I had taken the car to Lexus to get diagnosed and they told me I needed a new throttle body. From the car idling high and the symptoms above does this make any sense (as far as the throttle body needing to be replaced.) In the past I've had Lexus misdiagnose some problems which cost me big bucks for their mistakes. I wasn't about to pay $700 for a new throttle body to find out it wasn't the thottle body. I think this is the most complicated problem I've had with the car since I've owned it. I hope Lexus is correct and its just the throttle body thats causing the high idle speed. I guess I'll find out when I swap it with the used throttle body, whenever its delivered. Otherwise its off to a different Lexus dealer to diagnose.
  5. If your correct, that means that the Toyota mechanic didn't tune (install correctly) the new Sub-TPS sensor correctly. That's the code I am getting -code 47. Man does that *BLEEP* me off. :chairshot: Is the traction code 51 "problem in engine control system" a pretty useless code? Or is that just coming on b/c of code 47? Thanks for your help. I appreciate it very much.
  6. Thats where I got the definition of each code, but still not sure what they mean as far as what is wrong with the car?
  7. I got the same code (51) and I also have code 47. Not sure yet what they mean exactly.
  8. I pulled the codes and got TRAC code 47 which states "when idle switch is on, sub-throttle position sensor is 1.45v or higher". The other code I pulled was code 51 which states "Problem in engine control system". Not sure what they mean..
  9. One thing I was concerned about is that Toyota didn't replace any of the gaskets. On the throttle body for instance they just used this sticky, gold colored sealant. Now I am starting to think it may have something to do with that, like the intake manifold gaskets. Is there anyway one can check the vacuum pressure to see if there's any leaks within any of those gaskets?
  10. Is there one thing that sticks out after I describe the following symptoms. When the engine is started the idle speed is around 1,000 rpms. After the engine begins to warm-up the idle speed does not decrease. It stays the same as when the engine was cold. Also, when the a/c is turned on the idle speed drops about 100 rpms. No check engine lights on at all.
  11. I got a code 31 and I think its the mass air flow sensor. Can anyone confirm this for me? Its acting up again like when it went out the previous time before. All I did was removed it to clean it and sprayed it off with mass air flow cleaner and installed and then the CEL light came on. It ohmed at 2000 which is on the lower end of factory spec. Same symptoms as before when the last MAF sensor went out. I also have another problem, but atleast the CEL came on to indicate this problem unlike my other issue. Can anyone confirm its code 31?
  12. I am trying to find out where the traction "motor" is located. The only motor for the traction control system that is listed as a "motor" in my parts book as the Lexus dealership described is the traction motor for the butterfly valve that I believe is mounted on the throttle body. Could they have meant the traction pump is bad. Could that also be called a motor. Been trying to get ahold of the service advisor but he's never in his office and hasn't returned any of my messages.
  13. I adjusted the tps sensor by hand and was able to bring down the idle speed. I still believe there's still an issue with either the throttle body and or TPS sensor. I'm not sure if Toyota properly adjusted the tps using a multimeter or not. He said when he was turning it back and forth the idle didn't change?? Then he said it didn't really matter too much b/c the computer would overide it and correct it. Wasn't too sure about his method or thinking. By the way it was the same mechanic that told me he didn't know where to start and to take it to Lexus. It should be interesting to see what happens when I swap throttle bodies. Hopefully, the tps is correctly adjusted on the used throttle body I just bought but still waiting on to be delivered. Idle speed is no longer at 900-1000 rpms. Its now around 600 I think. I am going to see what happens when I start the engine cold and see if it throttles down as the engine warms up. The rpms would go up as the engine got warmer before. It may just be that the tps sensor is out of adjustment, or like it was stated that the throttle body wasn't closing all the way which would eliminate the possibility of installing the tps properly. The car seems to drive better since idle speed has been lowered. The car actually revs higher than 1500 in some gears before it shifts.
  14. Well, I went to the Toyota dealer and they didn't think that the filter and the cap not being on there would cause the high idle. So I ordered a used throttle body w/ traction control. Thats what Lexus said was causing the high idle. I'm still not sure exactly what about the throttle body is causing it to idle high but I guess I'll find out when I swap them out. I still have a feeling its not the throttle body. Only one way to find out though. Lexus wanted $2300 to replace the throttle body and the traction control motor. So I will post the result of swapping out the throttle body. I hope Lexus is right.
  15. Thank you very much for sending me that file. I noticed this before hand, but I'm missing the cover that goes over top the filter and the other part called the seperater. I guess they fell off during removal when Toyota changed the starter. How they missed it I'm not sure. Do you think not having the filter, seperator and cap with throw off the idle speed and cause other problems?
  16. No I haven't cleaned it yet, thats the IACV correct? Is it difficult to clean it?
  17. Took off the throttle body and cleaned the entire thing. There was a lot of build up on the back of the butterfly valve. Also, Toyota didn't put back the throttle body with a gasket, they used some sort of sealant and it almost looked like it was sprayed and it also got all over the back of the butterfly valve and the throttle body. It is also very tacky and it might be my problem with the throttle sticking and idle problem. That throttle body cleaner is powerful stuff. I let the 2mm of build up soak in that stuff and it did a great job. Still have to go for a test drive.

  19. Well I took the car the Lexus and they said I need a new throttle body and a new traction control motor. I'm going to find out what exactly is wrong with the throttle body. Good news is they only are going to charge $105 for finding out those two things for me.
  20. Took the car to Lexus and they said I needed a new throttle body to correct the high idle. Also, my TRAC light was on and they said I needed a new traction control motor.
  21. I've reset the computer, the front of the throttle body is clean, throttle cable is not too tight. When I first drive the car it takes a little effort to move the gas pedal almost like its stuck. But this only happens one time. I'm not sure if its related to the abnormal idle or not.
  22. The check engine light came on and I took it to the dealer and they said the TPS sensor was bad. The mechanic and I checked the cables annd they aren't to tight. The check engine light went off, but I still have a TRAC light on which may be related to something else...
  23. Also, when the engine is turned over at first instead of the rpm's getting lower as the car warms up the rpm's actually start to go up to 900 rpms. And, if a am driving down the road and I take my foot of the gas the car will keep going 40 mph and will not reduce in speed like it should.
  24. I just recently had the starter replaced and both TPS sensors replaced. The idle is too high. Toyota hooked the car up to a tachometer and it idled at 715 rpms. But, the engine is actually running at a higher rpm than what the tach. is stating. Then when you turn on the AC the rpms drop to about 580-600 rpms. Toyota mechanic said the engine isn't getting the proper tach signal. If I'm driving on a flat road going 40mph and I take my foot of the accelerator the car will continue to do 40mph by itself. Also when the car is first started, instead of it warming up and the idle starts to drop lower, as the engine warms up the rpm's also increase and then it looks like its idling at 900 rpms. There's no check engine light on at all, only a TRAC light comes on and not all the time. That maybe related to something else. The check engine light was on but went off after installed the TPS sensors. Would greatly appreciate the help. I just spent alot on the starter and the tps being installed. I have a feeling the Lexus bill could be quite high also if I can't troubleshoot this either.
