  1. I bet there's nobody from Delaware :(
  2. It was designed that way because 95% of the time you want O/D ON. If the light worked the other way around, that would be like having a light on telling you you had enough gas, or that all your doors were shut :D or that your oil pressure was OK. It would be silly that way.
  3. My parents are looking to buy a new car. They've test drove the Accord and the Camry, and are out test driving the Acura TSX right now. Does anyone know anything about the TSX? I've read some good reviews of it, but since its only been out a few months, I havent heard anything about anyones experiences with it and I havent seen any on the road yet. I would prefer they get a Lex, but they dont have the money for one right now :( since they're putting 2 kids through college. So, any unbiased thoughts on the TSX? They like both the Accord and Camry, but I'd like to see my mom get the TSX since it comes standard with stuff I know they wouldn't splurge for on the Accord or Camry.
  4. Hopefully all of these can be answered by somebody here. BTW, I have a 92 with 116k miles. Everything is stock, except the headunit. 1. The headlamps are circular, but I noticed that when the lamps are on, the light comes out in a vertical strip, rather than illuminating the full circle. Is this normal? it looks like 1/5 of the light was blocked out on either side. It just seems odd that the whole circle doesnt illuminate. 2. I have some glue residue on my wood trim from a changer wired remote that was glued to the trim. What would you suggest I used to clean this? I don't want to ruin the glossy finish. 3. Why does the moonroof stop halfway when I'm closing it? I noticed in the manual it said this was a safety feature if i recall, but i dont understand why it does this. is there anyway to disable it so i dont have to repress the button? (i know its not a big deal, but its the little things that count right?) 4. Aside from a K and N air filter, is there anything I can do to improve gas mileage? I still have stock brand air filter, but hopefully will switch soon. Im only getting about 18-19 city and 23 highway, even though i've slowed my acceleration (when i first got it let it fly out of red lights :D). 5. What do the numbers on the different models stand for? My guess was engine size...300 = 3.0L, 430 = 4.3L, am I right? Thanks.
  5. There was a '91 LS in our local paper with 260k miles on it for $6500...made me feel good about the 6000 i paid for my car :D
  6. I don't know how to fix the trunk release, but in my 92 there is a second trunk release inside the glove compartment (dunno if they kept it in 93), so she could try using that. Sorry I can't help anymore, I don't know much about my car yet ;)
  7. You say hold the FM button down, but I replaced my headunit. Do I hold down the "band" button?
  8. As I told you before, I had this problem with my antenna: I stopped by a Toyota dealer today to see what they had to say, and they told me it would be $50 for the mast, and probably 2 hours of labor, for a total cost of about 170. I told them no thanks and left; 2 hours seems like an awful long time just to fix the antenna. What do you guys think? I'm going to call some junkyards tomorrow and see if I can get a camry mast and have my local mechanic replace it instead hopefully, or is this an easy DIY project?
  9. My needles, especially the speedometer, are flickering (I have a 92). I read somewhere that these needles are lit by a series of lights, is this an easy replacement or would I need to have Lexus repair it?
  10. What exactly would adding a strut bar do? Like exactly how would it improve the feel during cornering? Is this a DIY project for someone with no experience working with cars (apart from changing oil)?
  11. I got mine at a bridle shop (saddle/boot shop). They had a bunch of different sizes, and its probably cheaper there than at a car store, since they had like 500 other leather products. $10 for about 12 ounces, I used maybe a quarter of an ounce the first time I conditioned.
  12. Would a 93 Chilton be ok as a service manual? Specifically this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2418745822 or this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2419074777
  13. 1992 champagne/grey with tan/brown interior, only thing changed so far is my HU. I hope to add HID lamps and clear the tail amber, tint the windows and maybe, just maybe add some rimmies. I'm just a college student working in casual italian restaurant so I dont have alot of extra money lying around (I pay for everything for my car myself, dropped 6k on the car when I bought it, which I'd been saving from the past 3 years working in the restaurant).
  14. I replaced my stock HU with a pioneer mp3/cd player and it sounds great, the bass kicks alot harder in the front than it did with the stock speakers...sounds almost as good as my old car did with 2 pioneer 10" subs with 400 watt amp pushin.
  15. My dad's coworkers all recommended Lexol (or Lexal, something like that) leather conditioner. They rebuild cars and said it is the best of any they've used. I just put some on my new car yesterday so I can't really give any first hand experience, but all of them recommended it strongly.
  16. The noise seems to be coming from the dash. But like most noises that come from the dash, it's hard to pinpoint the exact location of it. I'll pay closer attention to it tomorrow when I go to work, I just thought I'd mention it in case anyone knew.
  17. My carI've had my 1992 ES 300 for about a month now, and I had a few questions, so I figured I'd put them all together in one post. 1. I'd like to get my windows tinted. How much am I looking at to have all 4 windows and the rear window tinted (not quite limo tint, but pretty dark)? I want to do this for two reasons, to keep it cooler during the summer and protect the leather, and cuz it looks so damn cool (it's the champagne color, this is pretty much the same exact car . Should I have this done at a chain shop, such as Pep Boys, or go to like a smaller place like Audioworks or a custom shop? What sort of price range should I be expecting for this? 2. If I want to put in HID headlights, is it just a bulb replacement or do I have to replace the whole system? I've seen bulbs on ebay and whatnot, so can I just replace the stock lamps with HID bulbs? If not, what sort of price range am I looking at to change from stock to HID? 3. I've been having trouble finding a service manual for 1992, but I've seen alot of 1996 ones on ebay. I know 92-96 are relatively the same, so would getting a 1996 manual suffice? I wouldn't be doing major repairs, just minor stuff that I might be able to do myself cheaply. 4. When I bought the car, the antenna didn't telescope out correctly always. It would get to the last piece, then make sort of a grinding sound. The dealer didn't want to fix it so they just made it stay out all the time, and said I could fix it if I wanted to. My guess is that they just disconnected the motor from the antenna, since the motor still runs when the car is turned on and off. I'm hoping a service manual could help me here, but would it just be easier to find a junked camry/es antenna motor? Or do you think the antenna just need some lube? I would really like the antenna to go up and down how it should. 5. Last one. About 2 weeks ago I had an aftermarket headunit installed (Pioneer to be more specific). Ever since, the car makes sort of an electronic whining sound, but it corresponds with the rpm (ie when I rev the engine, its a dull whining revving noise in addition to the engine sounds). I don't remember it doing this before the headunit was installed. Any ideas? Thanks for all your help. I don't know alot about cars, and I've never had a car that was nice enough to take car of and improve (my last car I shared with my bro, a 1996 chevy corsica w/ 135k miles).
  18. I have a 92 ES 300, and I've tried using the ECT before. I noticed it gives some better acceleration, but how do you guys use it? Do you leave it on all the time, or only turn it on when you're accelerating quickly? I heard it wastes alot of gas and puts alot more wear and tear on the transmission. Is this true? What exactly does it do? Thanks.
  19. I'll have an old Sony 10 disc changer w/ all the wiring and everything tomorrow. I'm having a regular headunit installed, the only thing is I don't have the instructions on how to install it (I bought the car with the changer already installed) and it's quite a task. I can give you more details tomorrow. I had planned on trying to sell it on Ebay, so what price (ie most you'll pay) are you looking for?
  20. Is there anyway to have Lexus or any mechanic set it up so that it beeps and/or flashes the lights when using keyless lock/unlock? I can't always tell if the doors have locked without looking inside the car, especially at night. I know I could get a security system installed, but I like the button on the key, and I don't want to change the system. Is there anyway to have it set up on a 1992 so that it beeps/honks or flashes the lights? Thanks.
  21. Does anyone know how to remove this piece? I'm trying to get to a cd-changer transmitter that's way down inside the dash, and I can't get to it unless I can remove the cupholder/ash tray piece. I have my headunit removed, and I can tilt the piece out, but it won't pop out. I'm afraid I'll break it if I pull too hard. Any tips?
  22. I just bought a 92 ES 300 last week. I love it so far, it handles like a dream, and I look forward to the next time I'm going to drive it. I have a question though. I'm changing the Sony Cd-changer that was in my car (it was old and outdated, and didn't play burned cds or most new cds). To do this, I need to get to the back of the headunit. I read through the intructions on how to remove it (steve's post), but I can't get the center vent piece out. My roommate and I tried for about 30 min with no success, we couldn't even budge it. My car is in the shop today for new spark plug wires and to have the antenna fixed (motor ran but it didn't retract), so I asked them to remove the vent for me and leave it out. If they can't get it out, does anyone have any tips on how to remove it? I don't want to break anything, but it seems like it won't come out without putting so much muscle in to it that I'll break it. Thanks for any help.
