What Color Is The Tranny Fluid For My 91?
ArmyofOne replied to 91ls400's topic in 90 - 00 Lexus LS400
NO NO NO!!! STOP NOW!!! DO NOT powerflush this transmission. with that many miles, you will kill it. It will wear the bands prematurely. rough/hard shifts will be the least of your problems heres what you do: buy yourself 2 or 3 cases of tranny fluid. put the car up on ramps or jqackstands, remove the drain plug. let the tranny fluid drian. then remove the pan. replace the filter/screen whichever this model uses, and put the pan back on with new gasket/sealer. then, with the plug still out, pour fluid into the ATF fill tube, until you see fluid coming out fo the bottom of the trans. i dont know how long/how many quarts this will take. after you see it come out, keep going through about 5 quarts or until the fluid is bright red again. then let it drain the rest fo the way, and put the plug back in and fill her up. this is the ONLY safe way to flush a lexuys tranny. these transmissions arent d4esigned to be powerflushed. and anyone with a machine that does it will not do one with this many miles, if they are respecatble. -
Got Smoked By A Taxi That Ran A Red Light!
ArmyofOne replied to Senna4ever's topic in 92 - 06 Lexus ES250/300/330
Senna4ever, after my car was repaired, my car drives perfect and without any problems with alignment or suspension. Part of the fixes includes replacement of the entire front passenger suspension (i.e. wheel hub and bearing, steering knuckle, strut and ball joint) and an alignment service. Keep in mind that this suspension part is where most insurance adjusters tend to overlook since they usually observe the exterior damage only, so make sure the taxi's insurance note the suspension damage on your car, and get a new alignment done as well. Do you have any leaky fluids? From my accident back in March, my windshield washer fluid reservoir was damaged and had to be replaced, so you might want to take a look at that on your car. One more thing I can tell you from my experience is you're allowed to choose any body shop/service shop to get your ES repaired. I suggest having it done at a Lexus dealership as they will sometimes see new affected items from a damaged car the insurance did not catch the first time, and will pressure the insurance for more money. Insurance companies do not generally like customers having their cars repaired at a dealership, but you're perfectly welcome to do so as you do not want a lowball figure from an insurance adjuster (i.e. low insurance quote = poor quality fix from a shop). That's all I can bring up for now. Please keep us posted on your progress with the insurance, and send me a PM if you have any further questions about this experience. Good luck! :) BTW, if you haven't done so, make sure your taxi's insurance foot your medical bill as they're responsible for any effects with your physical health. This is most critical out of all. ← Well, is she totalled? Im glad to hear you are ok. that really sucks. having had 2 in a year, i know its hard to recover sometimes. i recovered from mine with liability only insurance. full coverage may be easier...not sure. -
What Happens When You Take Your Sc To The Track
ArmyofOne replied to SKperformance's topic in General Chat
SK,other than the fact that he is trying to sell it, i dont seeanything funny about it. maybe i find humor other places though. -
Glad to see someone keeping a good 250 on the road. these cars were fairly rare. I am the resident expert here, along with JP Importz, ont he ES250. I have the toyota Service Manual. I completely Restored one myself. they are fun and fairly easy project cars. any questions, feel free to PM.
-
you get a clunk or thup on stopping? please elaborate!
-
wonder if this would work on my scort :whistles:
-
Ha, SEE! i knew if i pushed enough! lol. No, really though, you made an excellent choice and you wont be dissapointed in the treadlife or the roadnose. and traction is top notch. i need a set for my ZX-2 before real snow hits! i hope my bonus gets here soon.
-
If they welded the forward band, and you are mechanically inclined, try replacing it. i dont know what it entials inside of this tranny as i have never done one, however, i knwo that for $550, shipped to your door, you cna get a used tranny with like 50-80K. New York Block and Transmission Exchange

Dude, you are so getting ripped. you should have Pm'ed me, not only am i nearly the only resident expert on these ES250's (they have alot of quirks that camrys dont have), but i have the connections that could save you an ASSLOAD of money. give me a call sometime. My name is Josh and my # is 803-556-1710. leave me a message if i dont respond, with a phone # and i will get back to you ASAP. oh and thirdly...what in the hell is with brembo cross drilled rotors? they arent needed, this car isnt fast enough or designed in the right way to warrant those expensive rotors, so unless you plan to AutoX, Brembo Ventilated OE replacements would have worked. DONT LET THEM FLUSH THE TRANSMISSION. in fact, dont let them do anything to it. drop the pan and do it yourself. pull the drain plug out and run about 10-12 quarts of ATF through it and let it dump out. then refill with prescribed amount of new ATF. This is the ONLY way to save that trans if the fluid has never been changed or has been burnt. DO NOT powerflush it. or it will die. get the car away from these guys, quickly. and a cat converter being out? please, you would know it if it was. Is the coolant thats int here currently green? if so, thats WRONG, ti needs to be red. otherwise there si a risk of headgasket issues and inadequate waterpump lublrication/gelling or boiling of the coolant. thats not the one you want.

I'll settle this via Pm's, no reason to let it drown LOC.
-
Ok steve, Im sorry, and your right, i really should be more responsible, but dont you think by knowing what the car is capable of, im better equipped to handle it in dangerous situations? you act like i drive this way on a regular daily basis...
-
well, you have to admit, they are cheap! whoo!
-
Crappy tires? They're brand new! Dealer just put 'em on. Granted they aren't the ones I wanted, but they will do for now. Some people will just never understand until they drive the car. I'll bring it down to DC and let you have a go. 85 was the max I hit, usually it was between 35-55, ocasionally I had to drop to 20, like when I passed through a few houses. Its not like I do it often, and I''m not a complete idiot...blind curve= slow down and stay in your lane <_< Steve honestly it hurts to think that you would think I was anything but responsible. The 2 cars in the last year were a result of bad luck, had nothing to do with lack of driving skills trust me. I'll tell you what I told the guy on CL: Its not like there's people around, the only person I endanger is myself and maybe my passenger, who I might add was there willingly and never told me to slow down or showed any sign of discomfort at my high speeds. I even asked if she wanted me to slow down, she said no, I was fine. There ain't no schools way out here. Its just trees and stuff. If I saw a house I slowed down. I take responsibility for my actions. I have been to 2 driving schools that teach high speed techniques and recovery, and have had MANY hours behind the wheel of a car just like this one. Im more than qualified to operate this vehcile at these speeds when the conditions are right. Its about 50 degrees and the weather was ok. no water or ice. I also know the mechanics of this vehicle better than most people. If the car couldnt do it, I wouldnt have done it. I have torn these cars down and rebuilt them from the ground up many times. more than i can count on 2 hands. I drove through doing the speed limit once, while the passenger took pix and i got a feel for the curves through the stretch of road i would be driving on. then we went back the other way at or below the speed limit. then we put everything away, turned off the stereo and away we went. dont preach to me, telling me im a moron for driving that fast. Thats the difference between me and the average driver, i know what im doing. and if i ****ed up, i had noone to blame for myself.i saw 3 cars the whole time i was out there. and one of em was in the pic that i took. so back off please. i may be young, but dont stereo type me because im 20, im not stupid like many other young people. There si a difference between my car and many others, the difference is, at that speed, my car is PINNED TO THE GROUND. no understeer, no oversteer, just grip. I guess from now on ill keep my FUN high speed and not very often occuring outings to myself :whistles: sorry.

It doesnt, but i am bored, and dont get to get online much, so i figured i would update people on how im doing. there are a select few here who actually care. sorry.

I found out some incredibly good news today, the Army doesnt use salt on the roads on base, due to the enormous increase in maintenance costs on GOV's and Humvees and HEMMTT's and other tactical vehciles that woudl result from using salt. they simply use sand here, eats alot less at the cars. this is a good thing.on another note, im acqiuring a second car, its a 1995 Chevy Corsica. Its BEAT TO HELL, but it runs good. its being given to me. its not worth anything, the interior is all torn up, i mean for real this is a car for that show Pimp my ride or something. its red with 230K miles on it. but it will serve as a good car to drive when i have to go off post, s the salt doesnt eat my new one alive.

im having the head proted and polished. it will be ready tomorrow! shoudkl get about 40 HP. i also found a screw/nail in my tire today, the bad part is i didnt find it till it came out.

More twisties: ^ I took this one at nearly 85!!! :D (not while the pic was taken, we did these free of distractions. Donna loves the rush!)
-
Ok, ok, i know what you are thinking...Its an Escort, how great can it be? well let me tell you, the ZX-2 has enormous potential in the twisties. I spent all morning with my girlfriend, shifting through the gears taking 25 MPH curves at well over 50 and the results?? the car BEGGED for more. I could practially hear it saying BRING IT! so heres the car: and heres the girlfriend, my asian sweetheart :D (down boyz): and heres the twisties!

You know it! but im gonna wear out these Bf Goodrich All seasons first, they arent too bad as far as road noise. Not at all, i mean yes it is great to be back in a ford, but the lexus brand, well i will just say im hooked forever. i definately will meet my dream lexus, its just a matter fo time. the main thing, and i explained it to bob very well, i dont want to buy a lexus, only to have it eaten to death by the salt in a few years. this car already has rust on it in small places.
