  1. Blake918 - Do you have a recommendation on timing belt change intervals? My Lexus dealer says 100K instead of 90K? Quoted 800$ for the repairs. Do you recommend the H2O pump too? What should I do and when? I'd seen were you're car had gone 250K - WOW! Mine is a 99 LS with 87K (VVTI)- its a life-timer for me!! THANKS!!! ← The water Pump replacement is more important then the Belt itself. Its no problem waiting till 100K for belt, and waterpump replacement.
  2. My 98 has a wood/leather steering wheel and shift knob. They want how much for those knobs. No wonder when I go to auto dealers they keep their Lexus shift knobs inside the building. They must be hot on the street. ← You can get them on ebay for less then $120. 95-97's didnt have wooden steering wheels, just knobs on the coach edition. Wooden steering wheel and knob was a seperate option on 98's.
  3. Really? Then why does the LS430 sell 150% better than the previous generation? ← Yea, I think he should speak for himself on that. The '04s were the most beautiful LS ever. While you cant get 100% to agree, 99% is enough.
  4. 98's dont have DRL's. One of your parking lights are burned out. They are W5W, and can be found in any auto place. But you have to dissemble the headlight housing from the car to change out the bulb.
  5. hmmm... I see what you are saying now. That’s a good point you make, and I would sure like to know myself. I'm sure most of those tweaks are in the software (within a limited reason) However, I’m not sure that you can yank a piece and integrate it into another older Lexus, because the integration has to be compatible on the network level.
  6. The 98 already has the C-best settings. Are you asking if you could reprogram it so both mirrors would tilt down when in reverse, then no, cant do that with C-best.
  7. Hey Guys! Interesting thread. After reading this exchange, I thought I would try this mod myself. One difference I used Light socket #85814 with Sylvania side marker lamps # 194 LL. Quick and easy. The soft plastic sockets provided a tight water proof seal around the lens and the lamp intensity was perfect. Thanks for the inspiration. ← Wow, wish I could check this Mod out myself (fog light turn signal). How long did it take you to do this? How did you put the light into that socket? since there is no factory harness to seal it. Maybe we should get together and even clear up the turn signals if that’s something you’re looking to do, I’m talking about the orange cover. (I'm in temple Terrace). I do a lot of work on the LS at my house, or my friends garage, be next to meet up with another LS owner, and exchange tips and info, hit me up. (I just noticed your PM isnt working yet since you dont have enough posts, so here is my email: lexusls400 at gmail dot com) Moe ← ← I see all the quotes, but I cant view your post. I see this often on the board.
  8. No, its because the pic you showed has a V12 badge there. Not to mention, there is no V8 biturbo badge on any Mercedes. But thats cool. Guess everyone is waiting on Penny pics now B)
  9. Not to be an !Removed! or anything, but I've notice the following..... -Heres some pics Front (This is not an AMG front). Side (This is clearly an S600, not S55) Rear (however this one is a AMG car, but with Mass plates). Interior (this is a S55 again) Christmas early (This isnt a AMG interior again) 493 horses (this again is a pic of a real AMG engine.) ← You're pics are not every consistant, for a number of reasons, and Any mercedes fan can see what im talking about. Any REAL pics?
  10. NO one runs a dyno with the A/C on.
  11. Just double check they plugged everything back in tightly. That should fix your problem. ← Hello Grand_LS4 Thanks for the suggestion. I tried removing the neg battery cable for 20 minutes, but this didn't do the trick right away. Yesterday, my wife said the "headlight leveling" message disappeared, but the red light next to the message area is still lit. Does the computer need to be reset at this point? Thanks, Mark ← Did you double check the lighting connections? If the message disapeared, but the red light is still ON, then the problem is still there, its just not on the screen at that given time because the computer will let you scroll to other info even when you have a warning message.
  12. I just would like to note that BMW is by NO WAY in the red. Im not sure where you got this information. Matter fact, the only two consistant profitable companies over the past 25 years are Toyota and BMW. BMW is def not in the red, or even Yellow.
  13. Just double check they plugged everything back in tightly. That should fix your problem.

  15. I would not go this fast with the A/C on.
  16. I think theres something seriously wrong with your car. However, the method you used to calculate which is faster is somewhat questionable. You need a G-tech, or something a big more reliable then location. Because you have noted a HUGE, HUGE difference between the two cars if your calculations are correct.
  17. Ya know, I'd have to look at that. I did go to the car wash Saturday and you know how they wipe stuff down, messing with your volume control, etc. So, the guy could have moved the brightness setting to max by accident and I just didn't notice. Will check tomorow AM if it is on max setting, thanks, excellent point. Baby's chilling in the garage right now, so manana I'll sure find out. ← Thats what it is.
  18. I thank you and others that have replied to my post . But I would still like a answer to my original question .... Can I mix the two ???? or should I flush?? ← Yes, you can mix the two. You can keep draining and refilling till its completely red.
  19. Yes it does. Not sure how computer savy you claim to be, but I've burned hurdreds of CDR's, and burn speed does make a difference. and regarding your .wav not working on the LS, im not sure why you mention this technicallity since ANY burnign software will make a WAV burned on a CD, work in the car. In the end, ANY Wav file will work on the LS's CD-changer, unless you burn CD's using the toaster.
  20. The .mp3 files are converted to .wav files for playing in conventional players when you use WMP, Store bought cd's are not .mp3 files. Although you have the choice to convert them to .mp3 when recording if you were to put them on a IPOD or the like. ← Thanks for the clarification, I have full knowledge of this, what I was trying to say what, I wasn’t sure what the point of the thread was since these cars cant play Mp3's to begin with.
  21. I’m not sure I understand what’s going here. Doesn’t windows media player ALREADY record CD's and converts them to MP3's? Then you can use Nero to burn and convert them into waves. Anyhow, I agree with the previous post, something I used to overlook was burning speed, now I burn at the SLOWEST speed possible, gives you the BEST quality sound, and there is a big difference... try it for yourself. Black CDRs + slow speed burning = Best CD ever.
  22. Why is the instant MPG useless? I think it’s the most useful part of that whole computer readout. While TANK, and AVG MPG is useful, those numbers hardly change, at all. I only need to see them every Tank fill up possibly even less. However, Miles till empty was useful until I memorized how many miles I had left by eying the physical gauge. However, instant is interesting because it helps you keep your foot off the gas by actually seeing the LOW MPG you’re getting when you floor it. At least that’s how it’s been for me.
  23. From experiance, a lot of sensors going off will trip the trac light. Even if your brake fluid sensor isnt connected. Just make sure all the connections are secure to all the main mechanical parts under the hood.
