  1. The problem using that type of hookup is you're taking a Digital Signal and converting it back to an Analog Signal and then back to a Digital Signal. Too many conversions to suit me. By the way: The real reason I didn't buy an ES330 is because it didn't have a cassette player.
  2. There is the possibilty that air pockets are trapped in the cooling system. Try setting your heat control up to the highest heat and run the car for awhile. Even if the previous owner took out the thermostat, or it's stuck in an open position the temperature gauge should move slightly. Besides, it's important that the thermostat is functioning normally for the engine to run properly over long periods of time. If the first suggestion doesn't help, I would replace the thermostat.
  3. What do you guys think about this email I received? "Join the resistance!!!! I hear we are going to hit close to $3.00 a gallon by the summer. Want gasoline prices to come down? We need to take some intelligent, united action. Phillip Hollsworth offered this good idea: This makes MUCH MORE SENSE than the "don't buy gas on a certain day" campaign that was going around last April or May! The oil companies just laughed at that because they knew we wouldn't continue to "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy gas. It was more of an inconvenience to us than it was a problem for them. BUT, whoever thought of this idea, has come up with a plan that can really work. Please read it and join with us! By now you're probably thinking gasoline priced at about $1.50 is super cheap. Me too! It is currently $1.97 for regular unleaded in my town. Now that the oil companies and the OPEC nations have conditioned us to think that the cost of a gallon of gas is CHEAP at $1.50- $1.75, we need to take aggressive action to teach them that BUYERS control the marketplace....not sellers. With the price of gasoline going up more each day, we consumers need to take action. The only way we are going to see the price of gas come down is if we hit someone in the pocketbook by not purchasing their gas! And, we can do that WITHOUT hurting ourselves. How? Since we all rely on our cars, we can't just stop buying gas. But we CAN have an impact on gas prices if we all act together to force a price war. Here's the idea: For the rest of this year, DON'T purchase ANY gasoline from the two biggest companies (which now are one), EXXON and MOBIL. If they are not selling any gas, they will be inclined to reduce their prices. If they reduce their prices, the other companies will have to follow suit. But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of Exxon and Mobil gas buyers. It's really simple to do!! Now, don't whimp out on me at this point...keep reading and I'll explain how simple it is to reach millions of people!! I am sending this note to about thirty people. If each of you send it to, at least ten more (30 x 10 = 300) .. and those 300 send it to at least ten more (300 x 10 = 3,000)...and so on, by the time the message reaches the sixth generation of people, we will have reached over THREE MILLION consumers! If those three million get excited and pass this on to ten friends each, then 30 million people will have been contacted! If it goes one level further, you guessed it..... THREE HUNDRED MILLION PEOPLE!!! Again, all You have to do is send this to 10 people. That's all. (If you don't understand how we can reach 300 million and all you have to do is send this to 10 people.... Well, let's face it, you just aren't a mathematician. (But I am ... so trust me on this one.) How long would all that take? If each of us sends this email out to ten more people within one day of receipt, all 300 MILLION people could conceivably be contacted within the next 8 days!!! I'll bet you I didn't think you and I had that much potential, did you! Acting together we can make a difference. If this makes sense to you, please pass this message on. PLEASE HOLD OUT UNTIL THEY LOWER THEIR PRICES TO THE $1.30 RANGE AND KEEP THEM DOWN. THIS CAN REALLY WORK."
  4. ......and Lexus's sports car is the SC. :D
  5. One other thing: They expect gas prices in the States to rise to about $3.00 per gallon. I'm sure that raising the HP will also lower your fuel economy. That probably is another consideration that Lexus is fitting into their equations.
  6. I agree wholeheartedly! The important thing they do is change the transmission fluids. It will probably cost you a whole lot more at Lexus Service then it would cost you at a GOOD independent service station. Look in your Owners Manual and see what they recommend at the 45,000 miles service and then price out the difference in cost. ;)
  7. For the same reason that Rolls Royce never made one. The ES was NEVER designed to be a sports model.....It was originally geared to a certain kind of driver....one who is not really interested in extreme sporty driving. Lexus has the IS300 for that. ;)
  8. Read what some people who bought this said:Tornado Fuel Saver
  9. I know that dealers in the New York City area will certify a used vehicle in good condition for about $1000. I don't know how they determine a price for this, but I went with a friend who saw a used un-certified RX300 at a Lexus Dealer. I asked if it can be certified and that's the price he gave me to have it certified.
  10. Not necessarily. I think that the people on the East Coast are just as option crazy as the West Coaster's. ;)
  11. SWO3ES: Here's a listing of Toyo dealers in the Washington D.C. area: Put in your zip code. http://www.toyo.com/find_a_dealer/index_frame.html
  12. I guess that was Lexus's corporate decision to have different options in different areas of the country. I don't understand their reasoning either??? :(
  13. The front left & right floor mats have the holes for the clips, but the rear mats don't. You have the correct mats. ;)
  14. In general, whenever you are bleeding an ABS-equipped vehicle you can do so exactly as you would any other vehicle - stroke the pedal to pressurize the system, open a bleeder, close the same bleeder, and repeat. This does not change whether you are pressure-bleeding, vacuum-bleeding, or manual-bleeding. Manually bleed RR, LR, RF, LF brakes.
  15. Welcome to the club. ;) I noticed that you live in Ohio. All ES330's delivered to your area do not have the option of Adaptive Variable Suspension (AVS). Of course you could special order it, but that would mean the dealer would have to locate one for you and that most likely would take some time since this option is available only on the West Coast. Personally, I drove one with AVS when I was in California and I didn't think it was that great. I found that using the normal suspension setting gave me the best of both worlds concerning smoothness & handling characteristics. On the other hand, I love my ML sound system & Navigation. The NAV has helped guide me tremendously when driving to obscure areas. I would definitely recommend these options.
  16. To be a little technical........it's probably a bad filter capacitor inside the radio. I doubt whether you could repair this yourself, unless you're electronically inclined. That's why I feel it should be repaired by a qualified radio technician.
  17. Maybe it's humming 'cause it doesn't know the words. Seriously though, I think the radio will probably have to come out to be checked by a technician.
  18. I think the problem you're having is more likely coming from the amplifier that drives the speaker that sounds terrible. The reason I feel this way is because you changed back to the stock speaker and the problem continues. A high degree of amplifier distortion will destroy a speaker.
  19. Most likely this is caused by a defective bulb or oxidation in the bulb socket. You'll have to try each socket to find the culprit. :)
  20. Sounds beautiful. Good luck! ;) I would definitely bring the car to a Lexus dealer and do a normal 10,000 mile service......just to be safe.
  21. This feature will most likely be part of the radio package in the 2005 ES330's.
  22. Here's the page: Reliability Ratings "97 to '01 ES's
  23. Besides age, driving record, year and make of car, the most important thing is the area of the country you live. This will determine what your insurance premium will be. Also, the top ten stolen auto's in the USA are: 1. Honda Accord 2. Toyota Camry 3. Chevy FS Pick-Up 4. Jeep Cherokee/Grand Cherokee 5. Honda Civic 6. Oldsmobile Cutlass 7. Ford FS Pick-Up 8. Ford Mustang 9. Dodge Caravan 10. Toyota Corolla Lexus is not mentioned at all!!! :chairshot:
  24. To be more accurate, try to use the same gas pump as you used in the original fillup. ;)
