  1. I receive the Lexus Quarterly Magazine, and while looking through it I noticed, in an insert that they used a 2004 ES330 Sport Design photograph, and under this photograph it said, "2005 Lexus Model Guide". Mistake!! Somebody at Lexus is going to get fired for this oversight. :D
  2. The timing belt should have been changed at 60K miles on your year car, so what you were told about changing it is correct. As far as all the other things that you were told, ie: valve cover gaskets, air cleaner, spark plugs, oil change, etc., most likely is correct also. I think the prices you were quoted are pretty much in line. All of these maintenance items are pretty normal for a car of your year and mileage. How much $$ did the mechanic tell you he'd charge for the timing belt change?
  3. The car doesn't like you to turn it on and off. It's trying to tell you something. :D
  4. I had this problem on my '94ES. You have to stop the car and turn off the ignition to reset the cruise computer, then try it again. If it happens again and again then you should take the car into Lexus Service. They have the knowledge and equipment to troubleshoot this kind of problem. I don't think it's a bad fuse.
  5. Yes, they are very rare.
  6. I'll give the Toyota/Lexus OEM pads a shot. I'm gathering information to make myself confident in change the pads myself. Cheers :D ← Good luck, I'm sure you'll do an excellent job.
  7. There will be some dust after some constant city driving where you use your brakes a lot. Stevie probably doesn't notice it because he takes better care of his car than I do. heehee :)
  8. I'm sorry. :cries:
  9. Could be a bad transaxle bearing. ;)
  10. That is not a starter solenoid problem. The engine could need a throttle body cleaning or a motorvac or just a plain tuneup.
  11. Don't be surprised if after the calipers were rebuilt or replaced you still hear the brake pads brushing the rotors lightly. Disc brakes don't have return springs as do drum brakes. This slight sound you're hearing is completely normal. The fact that when you spin the wheels and they all stop turning at different times is no indication of a problem. A better way to check this is have somebody sit in the car when it's up on a lift. Have them apply the brakes as you try to turn the wheel. Then release the brakes and see if you can then spin the wheel by hand. If at this point the wheel doesn't release immediately you probably have a sluggish caliper(slightly frozen).
  12. No need to be concerned about the braking effect that you're getting when going down a hill. That's the exact same thing I get with my '03ES since day one. I also thought it was kind of strange and spoke to Lexus Corporation about it. I was told that this characteristic was built into the transmission programming. I would just change the fluid. I don't think a flush is necessary at 65K miles. Of course I expect some disagreement with this statement, but that's what I would do. :) Good luck with your new car......I bet it's a beauty.
  13. I keep a roll of Kleenex Viva paper towels and Turtle Wax ClearVue Professional Auto Glass Cleaner in my trunk. It's inexpensive and works great. Give that a try, and if you don't like it, I'll buy it back from you. heehee :D Here are some users reviews: http://www.epinions.com/auto-Care-All-Glas...isplay_~reviews
  14. I think that the strut tower support would have to be purchased at a Lexus dealer. The strut assembly could be bought at an aftermarket dealer though. You don't have to replace this support unless the bearing doesn't turn smoothly, and also check the rubber portion for cracking or deterioration.
  15. I inadvertently posted the same post twice and I don't know how to delete one of them. Any ideas? If that feature is unavailable, I think it would be a good idea to implement it, instead of asking a moderator to do it everytime this happens. What do you think about this?
  16. You have to ask yourself this question, "Is it really worth all this expense on a 15 year old car"? :(
  17. If you get to the "Information Menu" screen you then touch the "Maintenance" switch. Touch the desired icon and input the conditions. After you input all the information, touch the "OK" switch.
  18. Yeah......but can you resize the animated gif's without losing the animated movement. That is the question. :whistles:
  19. If the motor rocks a lot then I would have the motor mounts checked. ;)
  20. Most auto supply stores carry this product.
  21. When moisture(water) gets into the braking system it can rust the calipers pistons. This will sometimes restrict the free movement of this piston to release. This is known as a "frozen caliper". This is why it's important to change your brake fluid after a predetermined time, especially if the car is equipped with ABS. As said before, when the car is up on a lift, spin the wheels to check if they turn freely.
  22. I've found using drive up ramps made oil changes very easy. I used to use a jack with stands but it was more of a hassle.
  23. Does this mean that you can use animated .gifs also?
  24. Wow......you certainly are "independent" Phew!!!!!
  25. I don't think that's so funny. That seems to be the attitude of many service people today.......they don't want to accomodate the poor soul that wants a seemingly simple job. Tell me....what's so hard about getting an oil filter to fit a Honda, and what's so different about the oil that a Toyota uses as compared to the oil that a Honda uses. :chairshot:
