  1. Hi John. Yes, you do loose all of your pre-sets when power is removed from the radio. The previous settings will have to be inputed. Paul
  2. Hi Willie. Welcome to the Lexus Owners Club. No specific advice on older GS, all are fun and good cars.
  3. Hi Mike and welcome to the Club! Your wife will be impressed with the features and the long life of the Lexus. Let us know how you come. out. Paul
  4. Hi Jim, and welcome to the Club. Your problem is probably not going to go away for long. Your approach to trying to "reset" the amp was certainly creative!. Thanks for the report and let us know how things are going.
  5. Hey LexBob, I live in Des Moines and have for many years. I have a good friend in Cedar Rapids and have always liked the city. There is a excellent Lexus dealer here, but as you can guess, with the size of Iowa, it's the only dealer in the state....until you get to the Mississippi. Wave if you go by! Paul
  6. This probably varies by state, but here in Iowa, all of a dealers inventory, new and used, is classified in a category called, "Dealers Registry" until such time as the auto is sold. When I'm given a service loaner, they must put license plates on the car that say "Dealer", then a license plate number. Using these "Dealer" plates must also be used when driving a pre-owned car or a new car. When the car is sold, it then becomes registered to the new owner. Given this process, the car is never truly registered to anyone until it has a true owner and, the registration and license fees are paid, and the state gets it's taxes. As for Car Fax, If your car has never been sold before or registered to an individual, what would you expect to find?
  7. The Lexus voice recognition system is not it's proudest achievement. It does not work all the time and difficulty with the phone/blue tooth is common. Your dealer will be able to help and if there are any repairs required, they will be covered by warranty. Paul
  8. The head unit probably needs to be replaced. Mark Levinson does not put out repair schematics for any of it's equipment, including Lexus repair service. The only way to repair the system, is to replace a bad component.
  9. With a few choices, simply follow your owners manual and your car will always be within warranty specs. However, you say extented warranty. Has your car run over on miles to the point where you have run out of original warranty? You can extend your oil change intervals by using syntntic oil, which is approv by Lexus for use. That will also extend the distance between filter changes.
  10. I'm not familiar with the audio layout of the 1996 SC300. In other words, how many speakers, does it have. and what are their placement?, Does it have a woofer now and is it in the rear deck? Does your trunk have room for a 8" or 10" woofer and say 100w amp? Let me Know.
  11. I agree. Any major repair that comes up would cost more than the premium for the warrany And in an accident, the car insurance company will total the car . Sorry. Paul
  12. Welcome to the Club. Post some pics when you get your car! Paul
  13. Hi Bruce, and welcome to the club. Simply do a search of the data base for rear sun shade, and start there. you'll find several threads refering to your topiic. Also, other members should jump in here and help you out. I'd get you started but I have a software problem and I can't acess the searh engine. Paul
  14. New rumor, Toyota making a new model LFA to push the one million dollor rides. To bring Japan up to and past the Europe market. But, Like it say's, probably a rumor. Anyway, I've got my liuid millions invested in Greek bonds. I just know there going to pay off!!! Paul m/2012/04/11/toyota-working-on-even-more-exotic-followup-to-lexus-lfa/?icid=maing-grid10%7Chtmlws-main-bb%7Cdl18%7Csec3_lnk2%26pLid%3D151270
  15. It really bugs me when I have to do this, but I agree with most everything you've said Steve. The mistake we keep making as a country every four years, is believing we our choosing a leader. That is no longer a working constitutional premise. In a country this large, we all have to follow the example of those, him or her, we elect, and all kick in and be leaders. If we don't pull together, we'll end up with a life time of the congress we have now, and eventually all eating Egg Drop Soup,
  16. Along with Jim"s explanation is the possibility of clogged drain tubes around the sun roof. In some models these empty toward the lower front This has come up before so just do a search of the data base and you should find more innformation.
  17. More than likely it is the seat belt retractor assembly. You can buy the whole assembly to replace, or just the spring assembly that goes inside the holder. If your not a do-it-your- selfer, I would reccomend having your dealer do it. It is important that this repair be done correctlly since it can save your life.
  18. It's not always the choice of Lexus what the dealer uses as a loaner. Years ago Lexus provided floor planning to supply an inventory of basic Lexus models for loaners .In he last few years, that support has been reduced and more and more dealers, toreduce cost, are adding other brands to use as loaners. My dealer will some times use low mileage cars from other brands they sell, such as Infinity, or Volvo. The IS250 is a niche market product designed for a narrow market, with a narrow budget. That the annoying hump next to the accelarator iis just one thing that proves to me that it's tooled for a younger market. If they we're able to get the real performance they wanted they would buy the GS350. I agree with you on the color of the wood trim, but if I'm not mistaken, it's the same color they have used in the LS460. Paul
  19. Now that we've heard from the John Birch Society view of American society's ills , let me make one correction. Our daughter and son-in-law, (a deputy sheriff) live in Melbourne, Fl, the heart of the Space Coast. Over the last 13-14 months, as NASA has been closing down the shuttle program, so far 5-7000 employee's have been let go. As you can imagine, it is very difficult for these type of specialized workers to walk out and find a job. For example, how many main street stores need a launch control specialist? In response to the insinuation that Obama made the decision to scap the shuttle progrom, it was Congross, who began beating the drum for getting rid of the space exploration program, since in their opinion, it had no value, served no purpose, and was sucking the budget dry. Congress makes the bills and controolls the purse strings. Obama disagreed entirely, except for the need to re-target and re- prioritize the budget. We have the best congress money can buy, Republican or Demorcrat. IMO, my $500 goes to the local Food Bank where I know it' goes directly to the end user. Paul
  20. Hi Richard, and welcome to the Lexus Ownners Owners Club. A couple of questions that are basic and from someone who is not an expert. When you say you replaced the "radio", was that just the head unit or did it include the amplifier? Secondly, have you checked for a good ground . The only time I have experienced the "Audio Off" message, was when I use my mp3 player using the "Aux" jack in my 2010 ES50, When I'm playing the mp3 player and I turn off the car, when I get back in , the screen will say "Audio Off". For some reason, the mp3 player controls the function of the Lexus player. Since the late model's Lexus are designed around the Ipod products, there are no such problems.
  21. These came in a few hours ago from the New York auto show. Some comments were not to flattering, some so-so. You opinion? http://www.autoblog.com/2012/04/04/lexus-debuts-2013-es-including-new-300h-hybrid/
  22. This is a pretty rough string of information, but shoud get you started looking deeper and deeper to find some real answers. Hope it helps. If not for a software bug with my computer and the new software i might have been able to find you more. http://www.info.com/Media%20Usage?cb=55&cmp=4741&gclid=CLSV_ZqPlK8CFYZoKgodLnoB1Q
  23. I know there is info on this, I will try to find it and get back. Paul
  24. Hi Monica and welcome to the Lexus Owners Club! Unfortunately, I don't have an immediate answer for you. I just don't have the knowledge. But while we wait today for someone else to chime in that can help you, try doing a search of our data base looking for information on programing key and ECM. Please come back and let us know what your finding out and if your getting any help. Don't forget asking your Lexus dealer for some free advise. Paul
