  1. That story wins the "Supper Dooper Nut Job" of the day award. Don't people, like that on the road, just make you wonder from what parallel universe their from; And with gun laws now, you have to be careful about giving them the fickeled finger of fate for fear their packing, and crazy enough to use it over something silly like that. Maybe he wrote for comsumer reports! Paul
  2. Car thieves are smarter than we give them credit for. Study shows you may be able to prevent them from hacking your passive keyless entry system and push button start function. 3. A great idea. Thanks for the tip! Paul I like hitting the SOS button. Then I ask the nice lady that comes on if she can help me open my garage door! I like your idea the best. I think it would be fun to organize a forum-wide "SOS Button-In Day", where every one uses their SOS button to get there door open. Maybe we would get Lexus attention re: the unlit HomeLink button problem!! Sounds the the 60's to me! Yea!! Paul
  4. A great idea. Thanks for the tip! Paul
  5. Cool Paul. There's a lot of good info on there. Pretty amazing the array of choices out there. I looked up the Maybach to make sure I was getting a good deal on the one I just ordered....would you like to buy some swamp land? LOL! Paul

  7. Welcome to the LOC. Paul
  8. As SW just said earlier, it is not the seat heaters or window actuators that are major issues nor frequent problems, but covering the engine and components, and the transmission that are THE prime issues. Buying a warranty is like any other insurance policy in my opinion. It is simply a matter of how much expense you are willing to bear on your own, versus paying the onetime fee and I assume, a per occurrence deductible. For me, I look at how much I keep in the "Cookie Jar" for unplanned expenses, or do I want to put a $1,000. or so on a credit card when or if I have to go in to the shop. I am not sure you asked for it, but given how you described your situation, mu suggestion would be to go ahead with the warranty. Paul
  9. Article on new IS and GS fuel leak recall just announced. http://www.dailyfinance.com/story/toyota/new-toyota-recall-1-7-million-vehicles-worldwide-to-fix-fuel-pr/19815595/
  10. Are you sure you have the right harness for the right radio, i.e. Sony, Nakamichi?
  11. Step by step instructions are in the owners manual. Paul
  12. Man Jim, your right on the money. My neck ached for about two weeks. Body shop did an excellent job. The fit and finish were perfect. Actually had the dealer do the work as the insurance company had them chosen as one of their preferred providers. More snow this week. Paul
  13. In addition to the Blizzak, I would also recommend the Michelin X-ICE. I just put four on my ES350 a few weeks ago and "wow", what a great tire. In addition to traction and excellent stooping on ice and packed snow, they are VERY quiet and ride like a dream. I don't know if they are a good fit for an IS, but I would sure suggest you keep them in mind. I paid about $135. per tire, and as Jim said above, even if money is tight, the tires are cheaper than an accident, which is what I had just before I decided to put on the snow tires. I slid on packed snow and ice and rear ended a SUV. $7100. damage to my Lexus and four weeks without my baby. Good luck, May the Force be with you. LOL Paul
  14. If your still in warranty let the dealer take care of it. No one else will probably touch it.
  15. Your right to be sure, and like every other product you buy, none are completely perfect with every feature your little heart could desire. Does Lexus follow these forums just to take the temperature of the user market? If they do maybe they will take note of this little tempest in a teapot. In the mean time I'm going to tape a piece of kryptonite to my overhead button so it will glow in the dark! LOL Paul
  16. It does seem like someone in engineering just missed that little detail when they were hurrying off to meet their friends for a beer. I mean it's such a tiny detail that it begs to make one believe that one would actually leave it out on purpose. Paul
  17. My guess would be that the radio/head unit upgrade with the cd would be no problem, IF you can still get one. That is if you want the oem equipment. You might need some wiring help, i.e., harness, but as you know "dcfish" can help you out the most. I don't think the Bluetooth is even a possibility regardless of what you do re; oem. Don't know about aftermarket. Paul It may be very difficult to get OEM unless I scrap something out of a salvaged or totaled RX in a junk yard and I don't want that since I believe the "bad luck" will be transferred to me. Is it even possible to install anything aftermarket without messing up the center interior look? I know these cars were designed in a way to make owners keep it stock but the cd player, iPod playback, and Bluetooth are my main concern and a brand new RX (if the design will grow on me eventually) is not in my budget at the moment. Any after market product will take away from the original factory look.

  21. You will always have a few bugs in any pre-owned car, but this sounds like a sweet deal! Good luck and enjoy!! Paul
  22. I would strongly encourage you to take your car in now for the tranny problem and not wait until June. If the problem shows up when it is below freezing, how will the tech be able to duplicate the problem in June. Paul
  23. I too run Michelin Primacy's and love them. However, this winter I decided to move into a winter/snow tire for safety and to avoid a repeat of our horrible winter last year. I did research and decided on Michelin X-Ice Winter/Snow tires, and I am very pleased. I can't believe how smooth and quiet they are and the excellent traction as well as stooping capabilities on packed snow and ice. I paid about $136. for each tire, plus mount and balance at $20. per tire. I highly recommend these tires. Paul
  24. I haven't figured out what the white light LED is for located next to the Homelink and SOS buttons on my 2010. It helps somewhat in finding the garage door button, but barely. Any thoughts? Paul
  25. Welcome to the world of marketing and sales. The industry standard in marketing, and trickling down to the showroom floor, is "Features & Benefits". I'm not telling you anything you don't know, but why there is no center sensor on the front of the ES. I saw a commercial on TV this morning for Hyundi, advertising their bi-directional head lights and driver side blind spot feature. These features have benefits to the driver for sure but INMO exist only to make the car competitive with it's peers; i.e. market position. My Volvo has bi-directional headlights and offers the blind spot feature. My ES has bi-directional headlights. If your product can be market positioned and competitive, even innovative within recoverable cost, you will offer features with benefits that your sales force can sell at a Competitive cost; even a premium cost. However, no one can sell at a loss and a feature will be weighed at cost/benefit ratio to determine if it will sell with two sensors in front or three. Safety test and cost/benefit test probably said two. Paul
