TroyLexus Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 Hey, anyone that has 20's or anything larger than stock, could you tell me how your ride quality is ? before and after ? how big of a difference etc etc I have a 2004 ES330 , and am thinking of getting 20's , but might just go with 18's or something more moderate if the ride quality suffers too much... any personal experience would help thanks !! 2
Lucky13 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 18s. Ride is good cant imagine how it could be better but im sure with stock it would be slightly better.
TroyLexus Posted April 2, 2009 Author Posted April 2, 2009 anyone have 19" or 20's and can tell my about the ride quality ? if it's HORRIBLE or just a little worse than stock .. .
djspawn00 Posted April 2, 2009 Posted April 2, 2009 I have 19's with 35/30 profile tires... very thin rubber on new york roads... however the ride quality isn't too different... not better... but not horrible either... and I live in NYC....
kleetis Posted November 15, 2010 Posted November 15, 2010 I have 22's on my LS 460.. Granted with 22's you have a very low profile tire but the ride quality is not bad at all. The most important thing in my opinion is to purchase a good quality rim. If not when you're on the freeway going about 60-70, your car is gonna shake like crazy because cheap wheels hardly balance perfectly. Also 3 piece wheels as extremely high maintenance. I would stick with a one or two piece. I learned that the hard way! Hope this helps
92LS400...s/c? Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I Have 20's on my LS 400 and the ride quality is still good
Lexon810 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 i have 20's with 35 series on them the ride is just good
reyoasian Posted September 19, 2012 Posted September 19, 2012 Stocks are 18x8 +45 on 225/45R17 Now running 18x8.75 +35 225/R18
LEX-SV Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Yes, I have 19's on my IS350, stock were 18's (being stored).
mrmark Posted April 15, 2013 Posted April 15, 2013 The bigger the rim, the lower the aspect ratio your tires need to be which results in less sidewall. Handling is improved since the sidewalls have less flex than a taller sidewall, but you can bend a rim easier. Ride will also be a little "firmer". The important part is that you keep the outside diameter is within 3%. An ES can go up to 19" without looking out of balance with the whole car. Larger wheels will tend to shake only if a hubcentric wheel or hubcentric ring is not used. If the shop cannot balance a larger wheel, you should not go to that shop.
3rdGenLexus Posted January 27, 2014 Posted January 27, 2014 I have 19" wheels. I would not go over 19" wheels on a Lexus. Ride quality is not much of a difference but if you if that you are getting some vibration you might need some wheel spacer. some aftermarket wheels sometimes come with bigger space on the center of the wheel which causes it to get the vibration. you can buy the spacer for less then 15 dollar at a part store. no big deal. Just make sure you keep in mind that the smaller the wheel the fast you can take a sharp turn. the bigger the wheel the wider the turn the better.
LEX-SV Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Yes, for our 2nd and 3rd generation ISx50's, 19" wheels are about as big as practical.
nwlexuslvr Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I've got 20's on my IS and the ride is fine. You feel a bit more on the road when it comes to the bumps and cracks on the road, but otherwise the ride is fine.
LEX-SV Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 ^ What springs or coilovers on your IS350 with 20's?
Jaye Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I have an IS350 with 20's. I love it. The ride is far better than stock. I get compliments on the look very time I drive.
LEX-SV Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 I have an IS350 with 20's. I love it. The ride is far better than stock. I get compliments on the look very time I drive. That's amazing. Must be very good tires. What tires do you have on your IS350?
LEX-SV Posted November 24, 2014 Posted November 24, 2014 So the guys with 20's and "ride is fine" and "far better than stock" are not telling us the magic configuration of tires/wheels/suspension that achieve this....
2107jay Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 I have a 97' Es300 and recently put 20' Zenetti rims wrapped in Nitto Tires and it still rides smooth and looks amazing
LEX-SV Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Joshua - Very VIP-style-like. Any suspension changes on the car?
2107jay Posted March 26, 2015 Posted March 26, 2015 Raised the rear two inches because i have two 12' ct sound subwoofers in the back
