I can always recall that great smell my car's interior had when I first bought it, and just about every other LS I've ever been in. It is very unique and a good leather smell, not like the ones in other cars.

It seems to have gone away in my car. Figured I had just gotten used to it, but then I sat in a friend's LS like mine the other day and noticed how much stronger it was in his. His seats are in much worse condition than mine are though. I do not think they have ever been conditioned.

I used Blue Magic leather conditioner for about a year until they stopped selling it at my local auto parts store. I have a bottle of Zaino but that does not quite smell the same as my car used to, and I'm not sure I care for its smell.

Do you think the Lexus-branded leather conditioner will bring back that unique smell without it being too overpowering?

I have tried the Lexus conditioner and it does not come anywhere near to the original new leather scent. In fact, it smells awful, very chemically. Zaino is too strong and in my opinion it smells like an old leather mitt. I recommend Sonus Leather Cleaner and Conditioner. These products, instead of using heavy perfumes (like Zaino) it brings back the natural leather scent without the use of perfumes (which is only temporary). Try them, I think you will like them. When you first apply them, the scent is not great, but about 30 minutes later, you will smell the difference. You can get them here: http://www.autopia-carcare.com/car-leather...er-cleaner.html

Thanks, I will give it a try! I went ahead and just used Zaino in the mean time. It smells good, but not the same. I know the parts manager at my local Lexus dealer, so she gave me some of the Lexus leather cleaner to try. It works well and does not make the seats sticky like many of the others, but doesn't really have any smell. Thanks for the suggestion.

Leather Protection is far more viable and will provide better long-term benefits than a conditioner as so many so called leather conditioners utilize chemical solvents in order to facilitate penetration of there oils; this has a detrimental effect of the polyethylene covering causing fissures (cracking). If your leather upholstery is becoming inflexible use Leather Master’s Vital, as leather requires re-hydration (moisture replacement) not a leather conditioner.

I agree, leather protection is better, but in this case he is asking about the leather scent. Sonus leather Conditioner is safe to use and it will bring back that new leather scent. He can always follow up with Leather Master Protection Cream, which I would also recommend, and that will take care of the protection while still getting the benefits of the leather scent. I take it you have been reading Judy's posts : )

detaildoc - I have read many of JudyB’s posts on various forums but I don’t understand her marketing strategy.

She is the MD for a leather product company in the UK but never names a suitable product to go along with the knowledgeable advice she offers on leather care. She post’s on a UK based detailing forum but for her own reasons chooses not to become a sponsor that would allow her to advertise her companies products, but will advise you on what is wrong with competitors products.

I have always preferred un-biased advice from someone who offers an honest opinion as opposed to merely advertising. Commercialism brings with it concerns of honesty and true representation. In other words, it’s difficult to know what is true when someone is motivated by income, i.e. directly targeted at product sales, more so than an unbiased opinion

I try to recommend products that I have used and do, or exceed what the mfg says they will

FYI-, I tried Leather Master stuff on 2 sectionals (Natuzzi and another name). Stuff is nothing better then anything I have tried. For me, save you money.

For me the stuff from Griot's works the same.

I hear you. Though she seems to know a lot about leather care and I do appreciate her advise, she still refuses to recommend products while putting down others. I did PM her twice and finally she recommended a leather cleaner, guess which one she recommended? Yeap, the one from her company. However, I did read a post in which she praised Leather Master.

Her company used to be a reseller for Leather Master's product's until they produced a 'superior line' My preferred leather care products are water-based; manufactured by Leather Master's, they have been supplying leather care products since 1985, and they are the benchmark for other leather products. Leather Master’s trade mark was created and the development of product and techniques for care, protection and repair of leather

There are a few water-based leather care product that do what they say they do, Sonus, Iz, etc

Interesting! Yeah, I never use anything other than the Sonus and Leather Master Products. I am very happy with both.

I also recommend Lexol. I've used it for years on my horse stuff (saddles, bridles, etc.) and it has always done its job well. However you will want to get the non-darkening otherwise it will make your leather darker with multiple layers of it, it has a nice natural rich aroma to it and settles in nicely. They have a cleaner and a conditioner.

This is pretty funny. I am very familiar with Leather Master and some of their people in the US. I wouldn't purchase any of their products at their inflated prices for automobiles. The cleaner is not bad for an unfinished leather, but that is not applicable here. I remember the US distributor telling me that some of the components of the LM line is shipped from the US to Italy. It is then mixed together and shipped back to the US. Most of the product cost is in the shipping. If you do want to use the LM products, then the Soft cleaner is just a diluted Strong cleaner. You can dilute it yourself with water. Eagle Ottawa recommends using a damp cloth and maybe some mild cleaner to keep your leather clean. They may not make the leather in Lexus autos, but they make a lot of the leather in other manufacturers cars.

You guys should try Lexol conditioner...PH balanced, and smells leathery...i like it.

I believe the Lexus dealer here in my area carries this Lexol brand. I use Meguire Gold Class for my GX470 but haven't tried Lexol, maybe next time.

If i remember correctly, i tried the lexus conditioner once and it smelled like coconut. I use Lexol a couple times a year, works great. Keeps the matte finish and leather soft. doesn't look too good the first day or two, but after it evaporates it makes the leather look and feel new again.

Just as long as you don't smoke, bring pets, babies or any other "foreign" odor-creating device into the car, it should keep it's new smell for a long time. My RX350 smells like a diaper factory since we've been using it as the "baby carrier". Although, my wife's LS smells like Starbucks- so i should keep my mouth shut

I used Lexol cleaner and conditioner for my cars the last 10-20 years it was the best I could find in stores IMHO

Past 6 months using the Sonus Cleaner and conditioner and the car still smells like I took it off the lot. I really prefer Sonus stuff to the lexol smells.

cheers

Over the weekend, took up cleaning the cabin. On the seats were heated covers and from them the seat was stained for some reason. In the store where I bought the air conditioner, I was assured that it was not only a protective coating, but also a cleaner. The manufacturer also mentions the words "cleaning agent" in the description. Regarding the cleaning properties, this is a lie. He does not clean anything. Even the dirt does not smear. I cleaned the seats Lexol Deep Cleaner. Applied and then wiped with a damp cloth. And at once carefully washed off the remains with a clean rag with water. I will shave that Lexol Deep Cleaner means aggressive and skin strongly dries. After cleaning, already applied air conditioning. https://leather-toolkits.com/reviews/best-car-leather-cleaners-and-conditioners/
