Wife took car to shop in Atlanta to diagnose "check engine light". Shop said cat converter which new from dealer would over $900 for part only. They can do for under $600 installed. Mienke says 239 each installed.

Questions:

1) How can I tell if both need replacing?

2) should I do the left then the right if need be?

3) I took off gas cap and re tightened. Would that correct it if that was the problem or

4)should I put a new one on or

5) should I disconnect battery to reset to see if it comes back on?

Thanks for any and all help

You have emission stations in Atl; might want to take it to one of those and see if it passes(out of curiosity); you have to pass emissions there anyway and could you if a cat was bad??
