Looking at the new pads, they taper so that the older the pads get, the more surface contacts the rotor. on my old pads, there is about 1/4 inch of pad left, but no taper left. anyways I was having a hard time getting the pad off, in fact i gave up on it. once the caliper is rotated up, should the pad slide out? or do you take the clips off first? i could get it to slide almost out before it got stuck. i just did not want to break anything. any advice? BRAKE -FRONT BRAKE PAD BR1JT-01 W00742 W00743 F12332 Direction of disc rotation for for- ward movement REPLACEMENT 1. REMOVE FRONT WHEEL 2. INSPECT PAD LINING THICKNESS Check the pad thickness through the caliper inspection hole and replace the pads if they are not within the specification. Minimum thickness: 1.0 mm (0.039 in.) 3. LIFT UP CALIPER (a) Hold the sliding pin on the bottom and loosen the installation bolt. (B) Remove the installation bolt. © Lift up the caliper and suspend it securely. HINT: Do not disconnect the flexible hose from the caliper. 4. REMOVE 2 ANTI- SQUEAL SPRINGS 5. REMOVE 2 BRAKE PADS WITH 4 ANTI-SQUEAL SHIMS 6. REMOVE 4 PAD SUPPORT PLATES NOTICE: The anti-squeal springs and support plates can be used again provided that they have sufficient rebound, no deformation, cracks or wear, and have had all rust, dirt and foreign particles cleaned off. 7. CHECK DISC THICKNESS AND RUNOUT (See page BR-29 ) 8. INSTALL 4 PAD SUPPORT PLATES 9. INSTALL NEW PADS NOTICE: When replacing worn pads, the anti-squeal shims must be replaced together with the pad. (a) Apply disc brake grease to both sides of each inner anti- squeal shims (See page BR-23 ). (B) Install the 2 anti-squeal shims to each pad. HINT: Make sure the arrows on the inner anti-squeal shims facing to the direction of disc rotation as shown in the illustration. 2005 LEXUS IS300 (RM1140U) Author: Date: 1826 BR-25 BRAKE -FRONT BRAKE PAD W00744 © Install the inner pad with the pad wear indicator plates facing downward. (d) Install the outer pad. NOTICE: There should be no oil or grease adhering to the friction surfaces of the pads or the disc. (e) Install the 2 anti-squeal springs. 10. INSTALL CALIPER (a) Draw out a small amount of brake fluid from the reservoir. (B) Press in the pistons with a hammer handle or similar implement. HINT: If the pistons are difficult to push in, loosen the bleeder plug and push in the pistons while letting some brake fluid escape. © Install the caliper. (d) Hold the sliding pin and torque the installation bolt. Torque: 34 N·m (350 kgf·cm, 25 ft·lbf) 11. INSTALL FRONT WHEEL Torque: 103 N·m (1,050 kgf·cm, 76 ft·lbf) 12. 045spdIS300 Posted November 10, 2008 Share Posted November 10, 2008 should the pads slide out once the caliper is up? or do the shims come out first (not the anti squeal on the back of the pads)? this is the third time I have done brake pads. never had this much of a problem trying to get the pads out. any advice would be appreciated.
