Recommended Posts

Hi have 94gs3 I havent lowered a RWD before and I am having problems removing the REAR struts. I got the lower strut bolt off, but can't get the other bolts on the control arm off (its on realy torqued on there). i've been searching on this site for diagrams or how to's but can't find anybody describing the actual removal. I need a response ASAP PLEASE

Ii'd say try to remove anything you can that will get the spring out. One time I had trouble getting the struts off the control arm so I just had to remove the whole damn hub assembly with the strut, sucked but it's what I had to do. mayeb try that pbbuster stuff.

To remove the rear shocks, you need to do only the following. The control arm doesn't need to be touched at all.

A couple months ago I posted a tutorial with pictures (user name phollero) on the GS300 1st Gen area of the 'other' Lexus forum if you want more details.

1. REMOVE LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM FRONT

COVER AND FLOOR MAT

2. REMOVE REAR WHEEL

Torque: 103 N·m (1,050 kgf·cm, 76 ft·lbf)

3. (OPTIONAL - just makes it easier) REMOVE REAR BRAKE CALIPER

a) Remove the 2 bolts and brake caliper from the rear axle

carrier.

Torque: 104 N·m (1,065 kgf·cm, 77 ft·lbf)

B) Support the brake caliper securely.

4. DISCONNECT REAR STABILIZER BAR LINK

Remove the nut and disconnect the stabilizer bar link from the

No.2 lower suspension arm.

Torque: 44 N·m (450 kgf·cm, 33 ft·lbf)

5. REMOVE SHOCK ABSORBER WITH COIL SPRING

a) Remove the nut and bolt on the lower side of the shock

absorber.

Torque: 137 N·m (1,400 kgf·cm, 101 ft·lbf)

HINT:

At the time of installation, after stabilizing the suspension,

torque the nut.

B) Loosen the nut in the middle of the suspension support.

NOTICE:

Do not remove it.

Torque: 27 N·m (280 kgf·cm, 20 ft·lbf)

c) Remove the 3 nuts, suspension support seat and shock

absorber with the coil spring.

Torque: 27 N·m (280 kgf·cm, 20 ft·lbf)

Wicked information! Do you have a how-to for the front suspension on an '00 GS300? I am doing struts and springs all around and cannot figure out how to get it going!
