Disable Seatbelt Beeping

Anyone out there know how to disable the loud beeping when you take your seatbelt off while driving?

Reason:

When I pull into work I have to show my ID at the gate. In order to do so, I have to get out my wallet. I just don't want to start my work day with that annoying beeping sound.

Usually the beeping is a relay on a fuse panel. Problem is it is usually really hard to get to inside the dash.

Sorry i have no specifics to help you except do not disconnect the plug for the actual buckle. It will stop the computer from knowing if it is on or not but also effects the airbag system.

After starting your engine, and your car is still in park the seat belt sound should not activate, nor will it sound when you put the transmission in drive. It will sound after you start to move, slowly at first and then more quickly. It will stop when you latch the belt, or discontinue the sound after about 30 seconds...even though the seat belt remains unlatched.

The dealer can switch this in the Lexus Personalized Settings.

I agree that your dealer can turn it off for you. After some persuasion, he managed to turn it off - you have a choice of turning off either the driver seat, passenger seat or both....

The seat belt light still flashes but the sound is muted...

If you will look on page 53 of the owners manual you will see Customized settings. At the bottom of the chart it list the seat belt buzzer vehicle speed link "on" or "off'. When I talked with someone at the dealership they stated that they can turn it off since it is listed in the owners manual, it requires them using their diagnostic tester. Some of the other models do not offer this turn off feature in the owners manual or cutomized features, even though rumor has it that any of them can be turned off. Because of the liability stuff they would only do it if its listed as a customized feature.

I just purchased a new ES350. First thing I noticed was the seatbelt chime. Unlike the 2005 ES330, this CANNOT be turned off by my dealer as it is a law in Mass that seatbelts have to be worn. Thus, I would like a workaround as well. Any help is appreciated. I have the same situation someone mentioned before - I will take off my belt for short periods of time and find the noise incredibly annoying.

Take it to another dealer. If they can shut it off with the LPS, then they should shut it off if you want them to do it. Another dealer will do it, thats a joke.

I am going somewhat mad with this beeping myself. I move my car in our indoor parking garage and don't always put the belt on, and the beeping drives me nuts. There was a hack for the Prius that turned it off, I don't know if the same hack will work on the ES350.

This is obviously a very old thread, but is there any more info on this. I was able to easily disable the chime on my 2006 RX400 by just typing in a few numbers into the display. I really hate it because I often have to do a lot of slow driving with quick stops.

So is there any button combination, which allows to switch off this alarm or not? Actually other Lexus/Toyota models do have it, and most likely only our ES 350 does not have.

Really pity that it is necessary to go to a dealer every time after the battery is disconnected. I purchased a used car with the alarm switched off, and after some repairs with disconnecting the battery it appeared.

The seat belt alarm on your 2008 ES350 can be turned off by using an appropriate tool through the diagnostic port under the dashboard.

Very interesting, worth to try it. By the way it would be nice if any similar device to convert miles to km and F to C exists. Do you know any of this kind?

The only vehicles made by Toyota that I've seen where both  miles can be changed to kilometers and Fahrenheit to Celsius are those with completely digital instrument displays like in  the Prius.  I once changed miles to kilometers in my wife's Prius as a joke to see how long it took her to notice.  Have you looked in the owners manual to see if there is a way to change Fahrenheit to Celsius?  I cannot change miles to kilometers in my Sienna but it is easy to change Fahrenheit to Celsius through a setup procedure in the multi-function display. 

A friend in Germany found a company in the U.K. that makes instrument cluster overlays for North American vehicles imported to Europe  but I don't have their name handy.  What country are you in?

I am in Belarus, Eastern Europe. Actually, you are right, miles to km is not that important as the temperature scale. But unfortunately there is no such option neither in the manual, nor on the digital panel. There are people here making conversion by firmware changing. For this purpose they solder out the RAM chip, then reprogram it, then solder again. It seems to be uncivilized method. That is why I am interested to find any other solution. It would be interesting to look at that UK company and what are they offering.

You could probably learn quickly to mentally convert Fahrenheit to Celsius instead of changing your car's instruments.  I have been switching between metric and U.S. standard measurements all my life and doing so has become automatic.  I "think" in metric measurements when I am in Canada and Europe and in U.S. standard measurements when I am home.
