Need Advice Right Away About Gx

I have a 2005 Escalade in mint conditon load with 11,000 miles on it. This is the second one we had and although the 2003 we loved we just don't love this one. I'm getting 11 miles to the gallon and the finish on the truck just shouldn't carry the Cadillac name.

We looked at a 06 GX 470 on Sat. We really went to look at the RX350 but that was too drastic of a change for us. We have had 15 large trucks so even moving to the GX470 we are down sizing. The dealer is willing to sell us this truck MSRP of 55,798.00 for 49,500.00 and give us 35,500 for trade which is about 2,000 over galves. We are really taking a hit on this truck but I fear with gas mileage and the price of gas it will only get worse. Now I know that the GX only gets around 4 more miles to the gallon but anything would be better and since we just can't go that small this is a good options for us.

Question.... Do you feel that the Lexus will retain resale value better then the Cadillac Escalade? How is the ride on this truck? Did any of you drive large trucks and down size to this? Any info that you can provide would be great.

You put this in the LX section ,so i'll move it over to the GX one.

The Escalade holds very little value where as even 10 year old Lexus have a very good resale value to the point where it does not get any lower and you can sell them for what you paid.

Thank you,

If it was you would you dump the cadillac now to buy and 06 loaded GX? I hate to take another 10 G's out of the bank I just did this last June but I also don't want to lose my pants on this deal. Do you think the deal is a good one? Is a GX a good solid truck?

you might be able to get a couple thousand more on your escalade if you explore the option of selling it yourself. however first try to get it sold, then get the GX. if the escalade doesnt sell or you dont get more than 35k then definitely trade it in for the GX.

no matter what, Lexus has a high resale value. I checked the KBB of my GX and if i were to sell it TODAY, it's still costs $41k . That's a 3 yr old GX, w/no options and 45k miles.

I understand the gas issue. that 3 or 4 mpg more is a BIG DEAL. That's why I got a 4Runner a month ago because it performs similarly like a GX, but with a better gas mileage. Size is sacrificed but if I need a roomy vehicle, I'd use my GX. ;) You can get GX470s at nearly invoice nowadays because the 07s are rolling in and the design will be used for at least another year and a half.

If your 4Runner has the V8, it should get the same fuel mileage as the GX.

I have a 2004 GX that I bought new on 10/01/2004. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it. I've returned to the dealer for oil changes and tire rotations and that's it. I traded in a 2004 Cadillac CTS that was 6 months old with 4,700 miles on it. The Cadillac was a big disappointment. Very poor quality control and dealer service that sucked.

I took a big hit on the caddy, but the bottom line for me was every time I drove the cadillac, I got mad at all of the problems I was having and thinking about the lousy dealer service. I don't have that problem driving the Lexus, and life is too short to deal with that kind of stuff. Quality on the Lexus is light years better. Better materials, better assembly, etc. Just compare the interior of your Escalade to that of the GX. That says it all right there.

Thank you so much. For me you have compaired apples to apples. My 2003 escalade was nice and I really liked it. The 2005 from day one was like you said a big disappointment. We were never fully happy with it. Some of the items had to be replaced due to warping. The Escalade was an in your face truck it turned heads but the inside just wasn't there. This time we will be getting a truck that is beautiful on the inside so we can enjoy it. Not to mention the insurance is even cheaper. We pick up our truck the end of Aug. It's still not in port yet. I'm sure once I write the check and walk away it will become a distant memory. I just could kick myself for shelling out the other 10 grand last June for the caddy.

Thank you,

Sami
