  1. They kept the hinged rear door, but they did add a lift up glass section to that rear door. Unless you have to load something big, you can just lift the glass hatch up to load in things..like groceries and such.
  2. sorry I can't help with a cheaper source for the parts, but I know how expensive that headlight assembly is. Each headlight bulb alone is 70 bucks, and the full headlight assembly was 700 I believe when I had mine replaced. BTW..what did you hit?
  3. I always thought it was just for AC and provided no heat. There are heat ducts under the front seats that blow on the second seat occupants feet though. They are controlled from the main climate controls on thje dashboard.
  4. Using a gasoline with a higher octane rating than your engine requires gives you no benefit at all...none. The only benefit is to the gas station you buy it from. NO GX would gain any benefit from using anything higher than 91 octane. Those of us with pre 2005 models don't really even gain anything from using higher than 87 octane.
  5. Would using mobil One 5w-30 oil have any affect on this? I've never experienced the problem on my 2004, but I also have used nothing but Mobil One since my first oil change at 2,800 miles
  6. I am curious if you used regular or premium fuel while pulling that trailer, and if you noticed a difference if you used premium. I've tried premium around town and have never noticed my 2004 running any different. My only thought was there may be an advantage to premium if you are towing a trailer..especially in the mountains.
  7. I also have a 2004 GX with 21,000 miles on it. I have never found the drivers seat to be uncomfortable at all. I had it on one 4,000 mile trip from Wisconsin to Phoenix and back and it was just fine. I adjusted the seat every so often along the way just to change my position somewhat, but I was never uncomforatble. Was your seat always like that or has it gottem worse over time?
  8. Never heard anyone complain about that before. Is she particularly short or something? I can't understand why she doesn't feel comfortable sitting back in the passemger seat.
  9. I took delivery of my 2004 GX on 10/1/2004, and I have had no problems with it at all. None. I take it in for oil changes and tire rotation, and I've had the 15,000 mile service done, but that's it. Some others with 04/05 models have had that "clunk" thing come up, but I have not encountered it in mine. I've owned lots of cars before...from corvettes to Hondas to Cadillacs, and have never had a vehicle as trouble free as my Lexus has been.
  10. Oddly enough, I have had the exact same experience with my Lexus dealer. Every time I have taken it there, and I always bring my own Mobil One oil, they say they need 7.5 quarts. The owners manual says it takes 6.5 quarts for full. I check the dipstick the next moring and it's always right at full. When I have taken it to my local oil change place with my own Mobil one, they use 6.5 quarts, and again, my dipstick reads full. I have no idea whats going on unless my lexus dealer is stealing that extra quart. That is rediculous though.
  11. How about gas with 10% ethanol? Here in Missouri a lot of stations are providing 85% and 10%. Darrell any car sold in the US in the last 20 years or more can use 10% ethanol fuel. We have been required to use it in southeast wisconsin for a decade or more. You can't buy fuel here that does not contain 10% ethanol.
  12. I have a 2004, and I use only 87 octane now. I have never had a problem using it. I notice no difference at all in performance or mpg when switching to 91 octane.
  13. I have a 2004 that I bought new in 10/2004..so its a late model 2004. I also have the Bridgestone Dueler HT tires on mine. I take it on the highway all of the time at those speeds, and have never encountered the drone that you are experiencing. Mine is quiet and smooth at highway speeds. I've also never experienced the driveline "clunk" that others have. If mine, or any other, does not have that drone, how can Lexus consider it normal?
  14. There are three distinct nozzles on each thingy on the top of the hood. That does a good job of spreading the fluid around the windshield. I've had my 04 through two wisconsin winters already, with lots of salt spray, and the washers have been quite good.
  15. I'd second that. When I bought my GX, they were coming with three different brands of tires..the Michelins, the Bridgestones, and Dunlops. The Dunlops seemed to be the worst of the three in terms of wear and troubles. I've been happy with the performance of the Bridgestones that mine came with, but the Michelins would be my first choice.
  16. I bought a new 2004 CTS in 3/2004. It had all sorts of problems that to this day, have still not been addressed by cadillac on new production. The biggest one was a rear differential problem that manifested itself in an ever increasing whine from the rear end. Eventually, some of those differentials siezed up or broke apart. That problem was there from day one of production as a 2003 model, and the 2006 model owners are still reporting the trouble in the cadillac forum I frequent..with no fix from cadillac. I finally gave up with cadillac after 6 months and 4700 miles, drive down the street and traded it in on my new GX470. I am MUCH happier with my Lexus. I have now had it over two years, and have had nothing go wrong with it at all. Not even a squeek or rattle.
  17. On an LCD screen, burn in is not a possibility.
  18. I have a 2004 that I bought new with the Bridgestone Dueler HT tires. I have 16,000 miles on it and have had the tires rotated every 5,000 miles. They are holding up very well, with no noticable wear at all..and they are wearing evenly back and front. Your experience is not normal.
  19. some gasoline brands may put higher levels of detergent agents in their fuels that could help your injectors stay clean, but the gas itsellf is a commodity that is the same. I run a bottle of injector cleaner through mine every 6 months or so just to avoid any troubles. I have an 04, without the VVT, and 87 octane gasoline works just fine for me. I tried 91 and 93 octane and noticed no difference whatsoever in milage or performance. Maybe if I was going to be towing a substantial trailer I'd go for the premium, but for my normal driving, it is not of benefit.
  20. I recall that sulfur smell coming from the catalyst was fairly common back in the mid to late 70's when they first put those on vehicles. I havn't had that problem on any of my vehicles since then though. I thought that was gone for good.
  21. I've never experienced any leaks of any kind from my GX. My garage floor is spotless.
  22. I had afew Bose systems in GM cars...in a 1994 Corvette, a 1999 Corvette, a 2003 Chev Silverado, and a 2004 Cadillac CTS. The Mark Levinson system in my Lexus puts those to shame. MUCH better.
  23. I have a 2004 GX that I bought new on 10/01/2004. Absolutely nothing has gone wrong with it. I've returned to the dealer for oil changes and tire rotations and that's it. I traded in a 2004 Cadillac CTS that was 6 months old with 4,700 miles on it. The Cadillac was a big disappointment. Very poor quality control and dealer service that sucked. I took a big hit on the caddy, but the bottom line for me was every time I drove the cadillac, I got mad at all of the problems I was having and thinking about the lousy dealer service. I don't have that problem driving the Lexus, and life is too short to deal with that kind of stuff. Quality on the Lexus is light years better. Better materials, better assembly, etc. Just compare the interior of your Escalade to that of the GX. That says it all right there.
  24. I've had my 2004 since oct 1, 2004, and have not experienced any problems at all with mine. It's quiet and plush on the road, handles well for the type of vehicle that it is, and is almost unstopable in the snow. The quality of the interior is impecable in both materials and workmanship. The V8 engine and drive train are the quietest and most refined I have ever experienced. Some people have experienced the "clunk" in the drive train, although I have not. Lexus appears to finally have a fix for the vehicles that do exhibit that problem though. Fuel milage per the window sticker on mine is 15/19 city/highway, and I have found those numbers to be pretty accurate. I use regular 87 octane fuel in mine...I tried 91 octane premium, and in my uses, I found no difference in performance. The navigation system has saved my bacon several times, and the Mark Levinson audio system is the best I have ever heard in a vehicle, bar none. As others have noted..the third row seats are really not usable. Mine have been folded up on the sides since the day after I picked it up.
  25. All of my vehicles have always been blue..I think I may be in a rut. I do love blue though..including my Meridian Blue GX.
