What Are Common Prob. With First-gen. Es?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what everyone's found to be common problems with the 92-96 ES, 92-93 especially. Seems that i've had a few mutual ones between my 92 and my 93 (motor mounts and intake hoses). Oh, and anyone ever had a prob. with their AUTO driver side window switch? It would seem that mine's retarded; it sometimes stops only 1/2 way down, but works fine other times!

i have a porblem with my 94's master switch also

my pin contacts made of plastic are broken underneath

sometimes it works for the passanger doors

and then stops or goes slow

usually i just release and then lightly press the button down and it starts to work

a new switch is about 200

as it is for all 4 windows and locks

I think y'all are talkin about a different problem than i am. See, the problem isn't with the switch itself, i don't think, rather its somethin wrong with whatever senses when the window is fully retracted. I can use the switch manually and it works just fine, but the AUTO function is what isn't workin right all the time. Unless these pins you speak of control this, i don't know if that has anything to do with my problem. Thanks for the input though!

well if the pin inside does not press the contacts fully then the secondary switch inside the button does not sense a full depression to activate the auto

also i think you mean the second gen ES as the first one was the 250

89-91

my 92 has trouble coming back up from being full retracted into the door.....since there is no frame for the glass, people seem to have been closing the door by the window, and that can knock it off whack (just the window...not the switch)

i have to tug on my master switch several times..sometimes for minutes, until the window starts to come back up..i would replace the switch (contact doesnt seem to touch?) but dag, so expensive, and all of my windows are messing up with "Clunking" when they go down...and i ended up with a mysterious cut on the inside of the driver window, something on the inside of the door scraped it...

i had the same clunking problem with my 92, but nothing ever happened b/c of it. just annoying is all. also annoying was how the rear windows stuck to the seals, so every time you rolled them down, they made this loud sorta popping sound. :pirate: anyhow, sk, you're right about the 2nd generation thing. its easy to forget about the ES250, but it was there. say, do y'all know anyone who owns or has owned one? one of my friends wanted a Lexus but didnt think he could afford one, and i didnt know if they were good cars to recommend or not. i know they're the cheapest of the bunch, and probably the rarest too. 2.5 liter, right?

is there any way (preferrably easy) to test the pins in the switch? id love to fix that while my car's out of service b/c of the motor mount; just fix it all while im at it! also, i was thinkin about doing a radiator flush and maybe replacing the transmission fluid filter. any suggestions on these topics, and how neccessary to a smooth running engine are these things?

you don't need a volt tester to check the power window switch

just opent eh door panel off and remove the master switch or th one giving you a problem then open up the whole switches internals

be carful to do it on a table as to not loose any small pieces

the es 250

shold be a good car after all it is a camry

with just different lights

So are y'all pretty sure that this is my problem? I don't wanna go tearin stuff apart that i don't need to, especially not electronics! The ES250 does have a slightly spruced up exterior with the chrome trim and two tone (if thats your thing). They also have nicer interiors. Seems like i remember them having more wood trim than an ES300, and an in-dash cd changer, rather than the trunk unit! Seems like it was only a 3 disc though. Can't really remember.
