Badams
On the LX470 1999 model there is a power and a 2nd button setting. My question is will using 2nd setting save gas in LX470? With the Southeastern US petrol supplies being cut by Katrina I want to try to conserve gas any way I can :-?
Glockenspiel
I wouldn't think so. You've got some serious weight to get rolling. Let it start in 1st and drive gently. Keep it under 2k rpm during acceleration and you'll be rewarded with decent mileage for such a heavy vehicle. -- Patrick
dougjohn2
no. won't conserve fuel use. just take it easy on acceleration and keep speeds steady. that's about all you can do.
indiasfinest
that is for when u r stuck in snow. sand. mud etc....it starts in second gear instead of 1st...nothing special same concept with the GX...
Jim_Chow
No, but accelerating SLOWLY from a stop (think driving like a granny), driving at a constant speed between 50-55mph will maximize fuel economy. Any faster, and wind resistance takes its toll. Driving fast, even at a constant speed, is detrimental to fuel economy. Also, keep the vehicle in top tune...that means clean air filter, tune ups, check the plugs, etc. Synthetic fluids in the engine/diffs/xfer case might reduce energy loss (at least it reduces heat from friction, which is energy lost). The 2nd gear start is for starting from a stop on a slick surface, like when you're parked on a hill w/ snow/ice. If you started in 1st gear, there would be too much torque at the wheels, causing a loss in traction.
Badams
no. won't conserve fuel use.just take it easy on acceleration and keep speeds steady. that's about all you can do. ← Thanks for all the responces. Driving like a granny is TOUGH but I am getting used to it. The top speed of 55 simply wont work ... I-40 (HWY to the Beach) has a 70 MPH speed limit so I have the cruise control locked in at 75 for that trip just about every Friday ;-). I have been making the trip in my wife's LS400 which gets about 27MPG on the highway since the call to conserve was requested from the NC Governor last week. cfbrenton
If anyone still cares about this topic, you are all wrong. It will save fuel, but not a ton, unless you usually take off quicly.
