And if so if they believed it increase performance ? Or what there opinion is on cold intake ... RX400h Posted February 19, 2005 Share Posted February 19, 2005 The term "Cold Air Intake" is often misconstrued. True cold air intakes draw outside ambient air into the engine's intake. The air is unaffected by the temperature of the engine bay. Vehicle manufacturers typically try to balance low noise with high flow and adequate filtration, so be aware that many "high-performance" intake systems are noticably louder than OEM systems. The advantage is that more air is able to be drawn in, resulting in more horsepower. The intake you mention claims to increase both volume and velocity of incoming air. Increasing the velocity does tend to cool down the air. I installed an aftermarket intake (huge air filter) and fabricated my own cold air inlet and scoop in my Corvette. That and a cat-back exhaust system increased my rear wheel horsepower by 13 (as measured on a dyno). Noise levels are definitely higher, but then again, I figure that's what most expect out of a Corvette! Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

An aem for a similar year camry will work also Besides that intake shown is not even cold air it is the worst most rice part you can add to an engine. It draws heated air not cooled air into the engine resulting in lower gas milage, lower hp and increased carbon. SO go cold air or nothing. The only other best option is to remove the water ballast/muffler from under the air filter box, this will result in a good amount of gains with now worries of injesting water and only a slightly more deeper intake noise. This is free to do and requires no modifications only removing it. I dislike short ram intake since it sucks in hot air and foam filter breaks down over time, guess where those broken foam pieces are going to. (besides not doing this). I tend to agree that the Weapon-R is a bit too rice. Kinda scary about that FOAM... What about replacing the W.R. cone with the AEM filter head instead? I have Comptech Icebox for my Acura, it has a foam filter which I will replace with K&N RU2590 Universial Cone Filter when it is due for cleaning. Not sure it will fit for Weapon R but you need to measure pipe diameter and find the right one. www.ajusa.com has the best price with free shipping. Again, personnally I would not buy short ram. A K&N drop in filter, removing the resonator, and extending a pipe to collect cold air to where resonator was probably give you more hp for less $.
