EDC Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 I recently purchased a 2001 RX300 CPO. I noticed that the underside of the hood and front fenders were not painted, they are black. Both the fenders and the hood have the VIN decals on them plus all the decals and warning labels. In looking at photos on the net, the shots of RX300's engine bays show them being painted under the hood. Did Lexus have a change at some point or have I been RIPPED?
EDC Posted February 12, 2005 Author Posted February 12, 2005 It is Indigo Ink Blue. I found pics of 2 on EBay, both were not painted under the hood. Anyone know why some colors are and are not?
SKperformance Posted February 12, 2005 Posted February 12, 2005 they should all be painted but i was confused the first time i inspected an Mercedes SLK which has a flat black finish from the factory on the inside of the trunk lid
jbarhorst2 Posted February 13, 2005 Posted February 13, 2005 Is it really black?? Or, could it be the indigo color coat with no clear coat on it. That may look black because of the loss of gloss and/or the accumulation of some dirt. Tom
EDC Posted February 15, 2005 Author Posted February 15, 2005 I found out the the dark blue and green were not painted in the engine bay due the pigment in the paint turning yellow or brown from the engine heat. Lexus does paint in the engine bay on the lighter colors.
LexKid630 Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 i checked my aunts 01 indigo ink pearl rx; it's not painted underneath. Weird; who would have known why it wasn't, before now....good work.
