SoFreshSoClean Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 most everytime i rev my engine in neutral, i hear a squeek comin from under the hood and it sounds like maybe a belt is slipping. Anybdoy have a clue what im talkin about or what to do?
vcv10guy Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 It could be that your drive belts are getting worn out, but more information is needed to make a better speculation. Has it always done that or when did it start happening? Was anything done to the engine recently? Have you tried opening the hood and listening to the engine to find out exactly where the sound is coming from?
92Lex Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Get an automotive stethoscope to help you find out where the squeak is coming from. It's similar to the one that the doctor uses to listen to your heartbeat. You could find one for about $15.

steviej Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 get a little squirt bottle of water. Have someone rev the car while in park. Dribble the belt, one at a time, with a little water while it is squeking. If the squeak goes away, then you need to replace that belt. steviej
SKperformance Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 i think bartkat is joking ( i hope) with the soap their is only one belt for all pulleys you need to adjust the bolt on the alternator to remove some slack but if it never used to slip and is now it probably is worn and needs replacing.
SoFreshSoClean Posted November 30, 2004 Author Posted November 30, 2004 im guessing it is the belt and i was hopin it would be an easy fix but oh well. its not too bad. thanks for all of the suggestions. i'm gunna try a couple things first and i'll keep ya posted.
SKperformance Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 changing the belt is an easy fix only uses one bolt to adjust on the alternator bracket to loosen it then slip off and on ,all done in 15 minutes with the one ratchet
steviej Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Absolutely DO NOT use any of those "belt dressings". Tighten the belt if it needs tightening or replace the belt if it needs replacing. steviej
