Best Spark Plugs For Ls400?

I use the NGK laser cut platinum, the one they offer as an OEM replacement. Seem to work fine. They are a bit pricey though, about $10.00 Canadian each wholesale. Suggested retail up here is $28.00!

Your owners manual tells you the exact part number of the proper Denso or NGK platinum plug to use. Iridium plugs provide no power or fuel economy benefits but they sound cool which is probably the reason they have become a fad just like platinum plugs were a fad when they first came out.

I just removed the factory plugs Denso Iridium SK20R11 and replaced them with NGK Laser Platinum BKR6EP-11 (2978) as part of the 60,000 mile service. The guy at Orielly auto parts said he could special order the Denso Iridium..... I checked with the local Napa dealer, they recommended and sold me the NGK's. So far so good. Runs like a kitten. :cheers:

But, I haven't checked my owner's manual for the exact number of the proper NGK plug to use. :( Do you think it'll create any problem?

This might sound like a stupid question... but is there a huge difference between the Bosch plugs n an NGK or the Iridium? They deliver electricity rite?

I'm by no means a mechanic so i don't realli know the difference... i'm thinking of trying to tune up my g/f 's car for her and my car... so i also had the same question. Cause if i bought Bosch for $2 ea. for her ES300, then i'm looking @ $12 total. If i bought it for my LS400 then i'm looking at $16. However, if i buy the top of the line as you guys mentioned... then i'm looking at... at least $72 for her's and mine will be $96 :blink: soooo pricy. But hearing all the comments it seems like good plugs are really worth it. Do you feel more power on them? Better Gas Mileage?

Not a stupid question at all. When new, copper and platinum plugs perform similarly, except for electrode shape characteristics. Copper plugs have a much shorter service life though, and manufacturers are expected to maintain emissions compliance for many thousands of miles and years of service. So the platinum plug has a much longer service life, and is used more frequently today. Also changing spark plugs is a huge job on some engines, and as plugs are not a warranty item, manufacturers want to avoid sticking the buyer with expensive and frequent plug changes, so the "100,000 mile tune-up" was developed, and this too depended on long life platinum plugs.

Spark plug manufacturers, as opposed to the car manufacturers, also want to increase profits. Modern cars use almost no parts in tune-ups - many don't have distributor caps or wires, and for years none have had points and condensors. So profits fall a bit. Now iridium plugs are available, cost more, and make up the difference in sales. Nothing wrong with them, but the added cost is tough to justify.

My 94 Camaro used platinum plugs from the factory. I use NGK copper plugs in it, and change them every two years instead of five. I like to look inside the engine every now and then, and the only way to do that is to pull the plugs. I even changed the Denso plugs in the Lexus after only 30k miles, and put the NGK's in, just because I wanted to do a plug change, and have a look around. I probably won't keep the NGK's in there for the standard 100k either.

i do the same thing :D

i like to change my plugs every year....... :lol:

i don't really know why i do that, as its overkill, but i just like doing it i guess, and i like have having clean plugs in the car <_<

Keeping your car well maintained is never overkill, I like changing things well before the scheduled interval too.
