  2. Hello all, I recently bought a 2000 LS400 that came with the factory telephone in the center console. The phone cradle is not screwed into anything. I see the 4 holes where the screws are supposed to go into, and I have the screws (or at least 3 of them), but when I try to screw the cradle in, the screws don’t screw into anything. Is there a part that I’m missing? Maybe some kind of backing plate? I can’t seem to figure out how to get into the cavity behind the screw holes either. I’ve tried looking at all the diagrams I could find, and used Google to the best of my ability, but to no avail. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks.

  4. Go with 2008-2012 highlander struts. It'll give you some tire room and you wont have to get wheel spacers or new wheel right away. Plus it like 1.75 inches of lift, dont go over 2.5" without making subframe spacers because of cv angles
  5. Thanks for all your replies. I have replaced capacitors but that doesn't really mean much as I have a friend who is working on his 4th ECU. I do have a spare with new capacitors but haven't had time to put it in. And don't get me started on professional mechanics. My Lexus dealer replaced nearly the entire back suspension and ruptured the universal boot chasing a vibration which $3000 later, was actually just a bent rim. And then he had the nerve to claim he didn't rupture the boot. Well there wasn't grease all over the rear wheel well when I gave you the car. That's the last time this car has seen a "professional" mechanic and the last time it ever will.
  6. Following was an MTBF question for Gemini (Bard) AI: No, car companies typically don't release specific MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) times for their electronic systems to the public. There are a few reasons for this: Proprietary Information: MTBF data can be considered commercially sensitive information. Releasing it could give competitors an advantage in understanding the reliability of their own systems. Complexity: Modern cars are crammed with electronics, and MTBF can vary greatly depending on the specific system and how it's used. A simple system like a window switch might have a very high MTBF, while a complex system like the engine control unit might have a lower one. Operating Conditions: MTBF is heavily influenced by how a car is driven and maintained. A car that is primarily driven on rough roads or in extreme temperatures will likely experience more electronic failures than one driven in ideal conditions. However, car manufacturers do heavily focus on reliability during the design and development process. They use extensive testing and quality control measures to ensure their electronic systems meet their own internal reliability targets. Here are some alternatives to finding public MTBF data: Reliability Reports: Consumer Reports and other automotive publications track reliability data based on owner surveys. This data can give you a general idea of how reliable a particular car model is likely to be. Warranty Information: The length and terms of a car's warranty can be an indicator of how confident the manufacturer is in the reliability of its electronics. Owner Reviews: Online forums and car review websites can be a good source of anecdotal information about common electronic problems with specific car models. END QUOTE
  7. Crikey, that would have been the era to witness, the Group C cars were the best
  8. Oh dear, someone got distracted, hope he wasn't on his phone at the time 🙂
  9. Yes I have, even replaced the visor and it is still happening. I agree I think it the hook by the mirror that lets it drop right where to hit you in the head getting in and out. Elaine
  10. Hi everyone Just bought a 2020 460. Family of 5 vehicle. 7 when step kids are around so 3rd seat will be in use (they are all small pre-teen girls). We are a soccer family and I am looking for ways to keep the 3rd row in use and use the small area behind for weekend necessities (blankets, towels, gloves, hats, rain jackets, etc) without everything just falling out when opening the rear swing door. Thinking about hanging some bags from rear headrests? Any better, more custom storage options? Cant help but think someone would make some smaller plastic drop in unit? I dont want the molle roof/window/headliner options - just trying to keep it "normal" looking. Thanks in advance

  12. Upon purchasing a used 2012 Lexus IS 250, the initial issue was that the brakes needed to be pressed all the way down to function. I took the car to a local repair shop, where they replaced the master cylinder, brake booster, and front brake calipers. However, after these repairs, a new problem emerged: the brakes started skipping, gripping suddenly, and making a squeaking noise, likely from the front left side. The ABS light briefly illuminated but then went off again. The repair shop technicians mentioned they were unable to connect the car to a computer to reprogram or reset the ABS. Consequently, I took the car to Midas for a brake inspection and diagnostic test. They discovered two blown fuses, replaced them, and successfully connected the car to a computer for a software update. Initially, they found an error code related to the ECU, not the ABS. After reprogramming the ABS, they reported no further error codes, assuring me that the brakes should be fine. Despite this, the problem persists. The brakes continue to hold and release rapidly, accompanied by a squeaking noise when they hold. Additionally, my fuel efficiency has significantly dropped. Initially, I was getting around 19.5 MPG, but after the repairs and despite driving economically within the city, my fuel efficiency has decreased to 16 MPG. Furthermore, the brake light and TPMS light remain on consistently. I have already spent an additional $2,000 after purchasing the car, with no resolution to the issues. Everything seems to be messed up.
  13. Typically, a hot exhaust means a lean mixture. However, a rich mixture will also make a catalytic converter run hot. I'm going to assume that you've never opened up the ECU and inspected the capacitors for leakage. All LS400's are prone to this. In 1997 and earlier models, the problem is extremely common. 14. On my 2019 RX 350 the radio suddenly failed (screen showed "error" message and said to "see dealer service"). The car has 67,000 miles and was, I thought, in excellent shape. The repair estimate from 2 different dealers is $3300 plus tax for a reconditioned radio (they said a new one was closer to $10,000). Warranty is one year. I tried to reboot the computer as others have suggested by disconnecting the battery, but that had no effect. I'm disappointed in Lexus reliability. I see that this has happened to other owners more than once on the same car. The service tech said this does happen randomly on this model with anywhere from 5,000 miles to over 100,000 miles. --Dave Mote

  16. I would take it to an alignment shop to inspect it. It may be out of alignment.
  17. I use: Cassette Adapter with AUX connector. And then I purchased a TUNAI Firefly Bluetooth adapter. It plugs into 12VDC and has a female AUX plug for the cassette Adapter. I have seen other take apart the dash and use the CD audio out cables with a bluetooth adapter for allegedly better sound quality. MY 2006 speakers are not in great shape so high fidelity is not something I need until I fix my speakers.
  18. I would like to remote start my US250H (or lock or unlock doors) using voice via Google Home Assistant. I found information from 2022 and earlier detailing how to link Enform, but it appears that Enform was replaced with the Lexus App in 2022. Does anyone know how to link the Lexus App to Google Home Assistant. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
  19. Thanks. I will check with the auto electric company that installed the window Regulator.
  20. I just purchased a stock 2003 RX300 and am wanting to “beef” it up for some off road fun. Nothing crazy, just out having fun. Wanting to go bigger tires, wheels, possibly suspension upgrades, and anything else that would make it fun and cool looking for my sons and I. We are going to do this together.
  21. Took our 23 GX460 for 6 month service and headed out from MS to MT. One way is about 2,100 miles. We notice the steering wheel is slightly off center to the left. Its been somewhat of a struggle being the car seems to be pulling to the right. There are NO Lexus dealers in this area. Closest is 4 hours in Washington State. Suggestions to how best to address this?
  22. For reference: The day I traded in my 2yr old 2020 RX 350, I registered 31 MPG on the 120 mile trip to the Lexus Dealership. Interstate all the way. Heavy constant city driving usually came out around 19 MPG. Urban traffic around 23 MPG. The ES300h is getting a steady 43 to 44 MPG in the summer city and interstate. You might like the RX350h but they are scarce in these parts. So they are loading them up to get top dollar. Called Free Enterprise!
  23. My 2017 RX 350 just turned 80k. My gas milage sucks, last fill up, it was 14.8 Combined no better than 18mpg, highway is ok, 25-26 mpg. Dealer said nothing wrong. My last Lexus.
  24. It's not the coils. Just replaced both with my good spare one at a time. No change. Next stop, computer, spark plugs, junk yard. It may be time.
  25. Sorry, Don. How about these suggestions?
  26. Well I was told there is nothing that can b done, & any fix is only temporary. Very frustrating. I drove a 1995 ls400 for 20 yrs & never a problem. It’s so frustrating listening to these brakes make that noise
