  1. took radio out and just plugged everything back in again...also messed with ground wire and all is good now :)
  2. 1998 Gs300 Here is the deal..I have an aftermarket radio in my car which was installed by circuit city. They had to do a little rewiring since I had a factory amp in the car already...everything was perfect. I also added some subs and an amp. this was 2 years ago.... So last friday someone broke into my car and tried to steal the radio. they disconected all the wires and for some reason couldnt disconnect the last wire...looks like a harness... So today I take it to a shop to reinstall it and he looked at all the wires and said he has to test them to see where they go etc. Now, I dont know exactly what this guy did, but the sound quality of my speakers are absolutely horrible now! There is static/distortion on all 4 speakers, and the factory tweeters are not putting out "highs" like before. Question is, even though the radio/subs work, can a wrong rewire job by the guy cause this? Could it be my ground wire causing this?
  3. 98 GS300 So i walk back to my car last night in downtown DC and I see my passenger side glass shattered. They tried to steal my radio and failed. I called all over today to get this replaced and most people told me its a dealer part. Anyone here know a good junk yard or autoglass store they can recommend...in MD DC or VA thx
  4. went to ebay and searched for "gs300 tail lights" the jdm clear tail lights are on there for 300 plus shipping. also these...auctions ends in 10 min ...also why do they say that the light on your dash will stay on? is it because of the LED bulbs that come with them? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/98-05-LEXUS...sspagenameZWDVW
  5. dcfish was correct... starter got worse and worse and I took to my mechanic. He said no need to replace starter, just the contacts. I think he screwed me a bit by charging $200 for parts/labor but i couldnt wait any longer. all I needed was to get stranded...especially since I had to turn the key 7-8 times coming out of a bar at 3am the previous night thx fish
  6. Did the engine crank? Or just "click"? It just clicked. Hasnt happened since that day. Dont know what happened. Just wanted an idea of cost so i can start putting money together for it now. Thanks
  7. had to turn key 3 times before car would start this morning. i think starter is about to die. dealer part ($250..??) or use after market autozone part ($155). Does it matter? Thanks.
  8. I bought my 98 GS300 with 54k on it. I have 94k now. The only thing I have repaired since i bought the car was the door actuator (250 part, 70 labor..common problem with this car) and minor things here and there like taillight bulb, 2 bulbs in climate control unit. Hes right, depends on how many owners the car has had, how it was taken care of etc.. Car still rides smooth and no major problems yet...thank god. Although I do think my rotors need to be replaced soon. Again, thats because of the age and previous owner. At 48k, you are ok. Car is still "new". Spend $50 and have a mechanic inspect it if you really want the car. That still doesnt mean things wont go bad 6 months from now but still gives you some type of relief having it checked out. Good Luck and keep us posted
  9. This was a concern of mine when I bought my car back in 2004. He is right, its the design of the car. Dont know exact technical answer but search the forums and you will find it. Again nothing to worry about

  11. For the people who had a mechanic change the starter on their GS, what did you guys pay for part and labor? starter from autozone, pep boys etc. or from dealer? What do you recommend? thx
  12. The only problem I have had is with the door lock actuator. This is a known problem with this car (Toyota in general). Go through the forum and you will many others have faced this problem. Part- $250 labor- maybe $75-100 ?? Another issue I have read about is noise from behind the dash/vent....sounds like loose change moving around etc...I hear this in my car also but doesnt annoy me enough to find out what it is. I have read many posts about this issue but never really cared to resolve because there are so many different solutions/ troubleshooting techniques. Overall, the GS line is great. No major problems at all and runs like a charm. SWOES300 is correct, go through the forum and see what other issues people have posted. But in the past year or so I have been visiting this forum, the issues above I would say are the most covered. Welcome to LOC!
  13. I saw these on a GS the other day on the highway and they looked about an inch or inch and a half thick. Same thickness as the regular lights with the amber and white on the bottom. Except its all white. Its a really clear white to....really stands out. They make the car look so different. Much more classier in my opinion. Especially if you have a dark colored car. I guess this project went down the toilet since no one has posted an update. Oh well... :(
  14. Yes, no racing here. I dont do that. Guess ill stick to regular pep boys or autozone rotors. thx guys
  15. 98 gs300...92,000 miles Im thinking about purchasing an extended warranty for my car. What company do you guys use for your Lexus? Are you happy with them? The one the dealer recommended was to high in price and $250 deductible..no thx thx guys!
  16. They might..then you might have to buy a new car
  17. I think its time to replace the rotors on my 98 gs300. I saw rotors on ebay that are "drill slot". What is the difference between these and regular rotors? Is there a big difference in price? I was thinking of just going to AutoZone and purchasing the rotors. Thanks.
  18. He's correct....You need the assembly. Same thing happened to me and assembly fixed problem. If your not mechanically inclined, it will probably cost you around $80 labor to have this done. At least thats what i paid here in Maryland.
  19. What have you guys paid for this? labor and parts?
  20. Hmmm...I had this problem before.... where I couldnt lock with remote but COULD lock manually and I had to replace actuator...$250 for the part
  21. So I go to the dealer to get an oil change and I walk around the showroom while I wait for my car.... Why do the ES, GS and IS.... ALL look the same! I actually saw the new Camry and it looks just like a GS. Come on Toyota, you must have at least ONE engineer with some design skills over there...Why the same taillight design on all those models? The new GS just doesn't do it for me. I like my 2nd generation much more. Still a beautiful car and the design to me was (back in 98-2000) ahead of it's time. Even though the body style stayed the same from 98-2005, most people dont believe that a 98, 99, 2000 etc is that old....meaning when people ask me what year my car is and I tell them 98.they say "really!"...I thought your car was at least a 2002.."its nice!" The design of the new Lexus line-up will get old real quick. The IS GS ES etc just don't stand out on the road. Opinions?????
  22. it was breaks...by the way, if I knew it was that easy to change rear brakes, I would have did them myself. Easy as changing a battery for your portable cd player. :( One more thing, when mechanic changed the front brakes, he easily unscrewed the screw to take of the caliper and change pads. When he put in new pads, one easy turn was all it took to tighten up calipers again. This kind of worried me for a second because I dont remember it being that easy to unscrew the caliper. I remember having to give it more strength then the mechanic did. Should I take tire of and make sure there tight enough???
  23. 2008 lexus LS 600h...WOW!!!!! http://autos.msn.com/as/minishow/article.a...rk2006&GT1=7945
