  2. thanks so much for your super helpful info. thanks again!!
  3. other than the timing belt at 90k, what other 'big' items need to be replaced or looked at very carefully? are spark plugs, wires, caps & rotor, water pump supposed to be replaced at 100k? thanks for any info!
  4. ebay item#150029355953 looks like the car has several issues - could you take a look, and then let me know rough estimates on repairing the issues??? rattling front end no radio display traction control & ABs lights on are these major repairs or minor?? thanks
  5. if i just got a 99 ES300 with 120k miles and the past owner does not know if the timing belt has been replaced, is there a way to check without taking things apart...? sigh
  6. I'm considering buying a 97-99 ES300 with 100K+ miles, there seems to be many of them out there. How long do these cars last? Is it uncommon for these cars to run til 200k? I guess at 100K I need to replace the timing belt and h2o pump at the minimum?? Any other info would be great. thanks
  7. thanks guys. but i ran a carfax and it was an odometer rollback car!!!!! :chairshot: ebay item# 280020291073
  8. Hello! I've owned BMW 540 & M3 in the past and currently have a S2000. I've been looking for an affordable, reliable 4dr w/ auto tranny and locally found a 1998 GS400 with 48k miles. Car seems to be in a great shape. I've heard in general that Lexus cars are super reliable, but what about this car in particular? What are key things that tend to fail I should get checked before buying? Car does not have nav, xenon, or nakamichi. I really want the xenon lights, is it possible to retrofit these? how much? Also, are GS400 owners getting ~18mpg in the city? Thanks for any help !! :)
  9. Hi folks, My first time posting here - what a great forum! Little bit about me - I had a 1996 ES300 I leased new and that car had 0 problem in 3 yrs of driving. Since 99 I owned several German cars and right now I have a 2003 Honda S2000 roadster. I want to get a used, cheap & reliable 4 door auto commuter and found a 99 ES300 with 125k miles. Car is in a great shape. How do these cars do in general past 120k miles? What are the most common problem areas? Is rust a known problem? ( I'm in Ann Arbor MI) How about the transmission? How easily can I get parts online or otherwise? Since the car is way out of warranty I don't think I'll go to the dealer for anything. Plus I enjoy turning my own wrenches once a while. Also, what is a realistic tradein value for this car in today's market? Thanks for any help!
