  1. based on the oil filter ratings, I would use it and be happy too. But then again I send $4.75 for my 2 oil filters that last one year (using the same oil).. Si is one piece of the pie and does not mean a bad filter. If you oil test, you would know this.
  2. Here we go with the age discrimation..AGAIN! monarch- Do you really think most users or memebrs buy what you post? It is so wrong it is funny (but sad). Just compare the ratings on the filters. Toyoto is nothing short of a normal filter. I would not pay over $2.50 for (1).
  3. I would ask this. Why use OEM? You are not getting anything better the 99% of the filters out there. Based on the ratings, there are much better filters.
  4. I know I did my wires and plugs at 60K miles since the plugs have to be replaced at 60K for emission reasons (as outlined in the FSM). If starting bad, check the TB, IVAC or battery first.
  5. I buy all my plugs from sparklplugs.com Next is wires. Are you sure you have them? Maybe the coils sit on the spark plugs (I know some Fords are like this) and they or you can't replace the wires. But the wires you picked out do not look like OEM. I know Newlexusparts is pretty good. I buy all my parts through them. Give them like a few days to get back.
  6. Just because the tranny is "sealed" does not mean you have to go to the dealer to drain, re-fill or check fluids. My fathers new ford explorer says the same deal; but with a little insight (aka online), bam, you can do it yourself. Really there is no such thing as a sealed unit. The filters (stainless steal mesh in toyos) can go lots of miles. I change only am doing mine every 60 to 80K miles (filter) on my ES. The fluid gets done every 2 to3 years or 30 to 50K miles. Goes in smelling sweet and red and somes out the same way. If you have black and chunky fluid I would look into more dealer. It is smells burnt, you got major issues.
  7. I usually ignore some users but this is far too ludicrous to not… Most manufactures need thinner oil to adhere to CAFÉ standards; the thinner oil must be used. This is nothing new here. Why do you think diesels are going to 5w-30 from 15w-40? Next is WHY does extended drains come into it when nothing was EVEN stated about it???? Monarch, you really have no clue on extended drains here, NONE, zero. Toyota is way behind the times here as they have been. I am not going to state the deal with Toyota since it is 100% legal issues and most people are clueless on it; some people on this very forum.Even Lexus does not state 3,000 miles. These intervals have not been in books/manuals since I have been driving! Next is you do not even do oil testing nor even go longer with drains. The best or most laughable part is the emissions go up and mpg goes down is flat out amusing at best. Did you actually read what you copied and pasted? It does not make a statement on anything. It just states things might happen. ….I might hit the lottery too! LOL If it was from Valvoline how come it is not on Valvoline.com? I have been doing extended drains for over 12+ years and never had emission goes up when I get them tested by the state and my MPG are constant when doing this (extended drains). So far in almost 4 years I get my car inspected by MA inspection with 11 to 12 month old oil. Gee, car passing with flying colors. To close, next time you stick your nose into something at least have some background on it since you are way out of your league on extended drains. Go tests some car engine oils (as I have stated to you for over 3+ years) then come back and post. If you did test your oil, you would not even be posting as you did on this subject at hand.
  8. So you want me to believe you that I put on 30,000 miles I can go 20 (mean) years on the OEM hoses; or 600,000 miles???? I think not. Your time interval is fiction unless you do not put on lots of miles. Heat and vib are the killer of hoes, not so much time. Also this is not per Lexus FSM. Even they would say to not wait that long. Nevermind the fact you want me to chance a $8 hose to break and need a tow when miles from home??? To close, you want me to trust that Evens cooling fluid (with fluid vis etc) the same as normal coolant caused a head hasket to break?? Ya, right. You are leaving out more info here. Fluids do not cause gaskets to leak. There is more to it; fluids are the effect 90% of the time, not the cause; basic fluid dynamics here. To replace it, the person could have saved $950 since a gasket is about as cheap as a set of OEM brake pads.
  9. They are $8 cheaper until you factor in shipping then they are more; At least for my year car etc. It would be about 3 to 4 more then new lexus.
  10. Yup, $158 for a $5 piece of rubber...But it worked! I'm figuring the 'piece of rubber' is a new weatherseal, if so, did you install it yourself? Yes installed myself. Took about 45 minutes and saved about $90 doing it myself.
  11. Toysrme- I agree but not as good as this.. All I know is that the ignore button is working great now!
  12. Yup, $158 for a $5 piece of rubber...But it worked!
  13. look buy the wheel. It is a black rubber piece. I have to do mine also.
  14. I buy the 500K miles if it is in a 18 wheeler. It is like Amsoil, they state 25K miles but that is slim to none. Samething with this.
  15. Again Steve, not causing any issues but I am very tired of the age discrimation, American engineers blah blah etc with this guy. This is not the first time I had to post with him since it is NOT a one way street. I personly feel when someone posts on this it opens the door to everyone else; me included. I also noticed others that "added fuel to the fire". LOL Stop the source and maybe it will stop the rest. As I noted before, please feel free to PM or email me on this issue. You can close this thread if you wish; did not start it (thread) nor care.
  16. welcome to Lexus! Serious here.
  17. One way to do what? I do not need to take a bucket..Going on 4 years when I dumped out Toyota and installed Fleetguard. The normal Toyota is nothing new here. Cap etc look mint. I still do not get why anyone NEEDS to uses Toyota. Does not do anymore more or less.
  18. I was starting to think hell froze over...still hot I guess. The age deal really bothers him… Maybe AARP threw him out?
  19. It has nothing to be with it being better or not. It has to do with you can mix certain coolants and be 100% fine. Even the manufacture states this. Nothing “best” about it. It comes down to what you can use and why. Again nothing “better” about it. It do find it comical that most think you HAVE to use this and that when you do not and will not do anything if you don't. ROF, I tried that and got Proxies and they suck in my state's winters and that was after about 8 pages on this forum. :D :D
  20. I agree IF you are comparing, for example, Dexcool to normal EG coolant. Can't mix and will distry the seals etc. Now if you are comparing normal EG to Toyota long life (normal EG) the colors mean nothing. It is a dye.
  21. IVAV and TB...clean them. Takes about 1 hour and is easy. Do a search since it has come up many times here. Did my last summer.
  22. I would do one or the two or both. Pull front valve cover; total cover about $15 for RTV and OEM seal. Or do an oil test for around $20. Even doing both is cheaper then having the dealer pull cover off. Have you checked you TB or PCV lately?
