Wow! If Paul did that to me, with NO warning, once we got back on the ground, I'd spray him with jet fuel, and then casually light a cigarette, and ask if he'd like one. Whew! With friends like that, who needs..... well, you know. The only thing similar I can relate is that as a kid growing up in SoCal. we went to a place called Lake Elsinor (sp?) and at age 8 or 9, I was talked into going up in a glider. That was when I discovered my HUGE fear of heights. Well, not heights per se, but falling from them, or more specifically, landing.... Here I am, at about 4 or 5000 ft when they cut us loose from the tow plane. Once the sound of the tow plane's engine was gone it hit me--- we have no engine, no power, and it was almost completely silent. This is what it's like to be a bird. My knuckles went white from gripping the seat arms. I could almost see through the hull, as it was very thin, light fiberglass. I was basically just sitting in a seat in the air 5000 ft up. The pilot did a few moves that scared the !Removed! out of me, then he asked if I wanted to fly it !!! There was no answer. That's when he turned around to see a kid frozen with terror. We landed shortly after that. Not nearly as exciting as your story, but my level of sheer terror was probably close....

Well written cword, and thanks for sharing that! That sort of post is what makes the LOC an exceptional place. So few ever post back what the ultimate fix was, so it is especially appreciated! SK, thank you as well for the excellent tips. When one has eliminated the notorious trunk hinge short, and other more mundane 'fixes', some mysterious electrical/ driveability problems may come down to a bad ground. Try to re-create the problem tomorrow. See if it does it again. Not sure if it's electrical, or a vacuum leak at this point. Do the 'pull engine codes' thing and post them. Put your model year in your avatar box so we know what issues to look for.

I remember standing in the mezzanine, and on the roof of the south tower of the WTC in the 80's when I went up to help my cousin move in to her new apartment after she got a job w/ Metlife from college. Not bad for a guy who's afraid of heights. I saw piper cubs flying around below my feet, and clouds, and Ellis island and the Statue of Liberty were far, far below me. Looked down at the Empire State building as well. The wind was terrific, and I could feel the whole building swaying under my feet... Unbelievable... It is still hard to believe those huge monuments to engineering now gone forever. I was listening to Stern one calm clear day years later, and that's how I learned what happened, as it happened. I shut off the radio and ran to the closest TV, and in about 1/2 an hour starting watching some of the first reports as they came in. All morning shows were interrupted with scences of confused anchors, and video from eyewitnesses. At the time of the second tower attack, there were news cameras rolling live, and I taped it all. as I knew this was unprecedented in history. They actually showed on live Tv, those poor souls jumping from the roof, one thousand two hundred feet up. I couldn't take watching that. I shut it off. God Bless America, and especially those poor guys. May they rest easy, and in peace.

You don't say what the specific prob is, so it's kinda hard to comment. More info in = More info out. Never had any insurmountable problems with an LS400 I've owned for 11 years, or the dealer in my area. Try another dealer would be my guess....

Where did you see this? Not from me.You really need to take some time and re-examine those trunk hinge wires. It still sounds like you have a short there. You did not say if any wires appeared to be frayed, or broken. If they absolutely were not, then that is NOT the problem, even tho it is a very common one. Please go back and re-check for broken or frayed wires in the harness. Just one little ground wire could cause what you speak of. Re-connect any broken / frayed wires in a proper way. That is, twist them together tightly fold over, and tape them up securely. Your engine now has codes recorded. Please pull them and post the codes. I have given you the link. It is easy peasy. All you need is a paperclip to insert in the Te1 and E1 to read the codes. This is unrelated to the short (if any) at the trunk hinge. Please slow down, and do it calmly, and post results. My guess is it's 1- the trunk harness, or 2- a loose throttle position sensor, or3- possibly, a bad coil pack (there are two of those and you need to find out which one, or both, is bad, IF they are bad). Start with the simpe stuff 1st. = wire harness, codes.

Have you pulled engine codes yet? http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/intro/codereading.html This same type of problem happened to me about a year ago. This smooth world class car started balking, cutting out, lurching, wild rpms, dash flickering, just seemed ready for the junk yard. It happened all of a sudden. No warning. I thought the engine was toast. Now it's smooth as silk w/ 255,000 miles on it. Open the trunk. On the left side you will see a wire harness on the left hinge. After repeated openings and closings the wires inside that harness become fatigued and frayed. Then they start shorting out. Then sputtering, stalling, and everything you describe. This is a design flaw and lexus knows it. If this describes your problem, then remove the plastic bracket on the left hinge, strip down the harness, untwist all the wires, re-connect, then re-tape. Make sure to leave off the hinge bracket that ensures tension on the harness. Just let the whole mess swing free and loose. In my case, problem solved, and no spending thousands of dollars in diagnostics, parts, and tech snafus. Best of all, it's free. Takes about 30 minutes. Post back what you find...

See if it will reset the eprom/ecu by simply disconnecting the neg cable for 20-30 seconds. If not, do the fuse check thing.
