  1. improperly seated bulbs or connections that have corrosion built up will act as if they are burnt out too. Before you replace the bulb that is not flashing, file/score the contacts on the bulb and the connector, then reseat the bulb and try it again. Don't forget the little bulbs in the side lights too. steviej (always look at your fuses too)
  2. drop in air filters will not void the warranty. Picked up a few mpg too. I don't know if there is any substantial gains on the 02-03 with a CAI, cause I don't know of anyone who has done it nor have I read aobut it on the boards. removing/replacing the airbox, relocationg the MAF sensor, and eliminating any factory installed air intake system......I would say so. When in doubt ask your service manager or warranty writer at the dealership you go too. steviej
  3. As well as logging it into my suppl. owners manual, I keep the receipts tucked away. However, anyone knows that store receipts don't always mean the oil and filter where in fact replaced, they just mean they were bought. Receipts from Jiffy Lube and Quik-Change oil shops are totally acceptable. I make it a habit of writing the mileage and date of the change on the side of the oil filter with a sharpie, just as a visual to the lexus dealership when they go to do a major service they will see it. My dealership told me they have no problem with this. As for nonroutine maintanence parts, I think it is stated in the manual that replacement parts must be lexus/toyota certified. But if it is under warranty, you are going to take it to Lexus/Toyota, right? I do understand the apprehensions about it though. You would not want anything to go wrong and then have to argue that the scheduled maint. was done. When in doubt, read the warranty and ask questions of the dealership you frequent. Steve
  4. If lexus/toyota in Canada is similar to here in the US, they will honor the warranty if you can provide proof that the factory suggested maint. procedures were done. In other words, save all your receipts. Steve
  5. sk, in most cases a tool is only as good as the person who uses it. Granted the obd 1 and obd 2 scanners will pick up codes triggered, stored, and cleared. However, if the person is not skilled at each manufacturers combination of codes, then you may be shorting yourself. Like LexuSY said, take it to Lexus, they may replace it if under emission warranty. But, you will never know unless you take it in. steviej
  6. pay the 50 bucks, and do it yourself already. sk's instructions are simply stated but highly accurate. sometimes replacement masts come with instructions. I know the one I had to replace on my old SSEi did. steve
  7. ES 250 ES 300 92-96 Generation 1 ES 300 97-01 Generation 2 ES 300 02-04? Generation 3 ES 330 05? sorry, but I don't have the exact specs or where the badges where placed for each year or the exact parts that differed. Try the search funciton, I did see that list here about 3 months ago. steviej
  8. steph, there are many facits to a "bad EGR valve" call. Have lexus read code, Autozone will tell you in general what may or may not be the problem. If Lexus reads the codes, they can further pinpoint the code as to what part of the EGR valve may be the problem. You will find the entire EGR valve will be upwards of $300 to $400 for the part alone when it may not need replacing. another example is that Autozone can read the code that an O2 sensor is bad, but they can't tell you which one. steviej
  9. gee, now where have I seen that car before. :whistles: here is mine.
  10. try putting a little more distance between you and the car in front of you. I got an 02, got small nicks from tiny rocks on the front bumper and the very front of the hood, but nothing on the windshield. steviej
  11. did the 2000 ES have any body work done before you got it?, bodywork in the area of the fill door? I ask cause this happened to me. My ES had some body work due to a stupid idiot that tried to fit between me and an island last Jan. The bodyshop had to paint that area of the panel. Paint and or clear coat dried in the hinge and would not allow the door to open (stiff hinge). The mechanism popped but the door wouldn't flinch. With the help of a friend and a Q-tip, I was able to open the fill door and weaken the dried clear coat spray. A few shots of WD40 and the doors pops like it is supposed to. just a thought. steviej
  12. for the trunk, get one that is well padded and has multipoint restraints. Rhode Gear is very good. For the top (will allow you to carry more than bikes), I suggest Yakima or Thule. I personnally have Yakima (Q towers, 52" bars, copperhead bike rack, and four Mako Saddle kayak holders). This is very easy to pop on and off. But of course is more than the trunk mount. go to several sporting good outfits, and bike shops. Look in the catalogs they have. Also look around, see who's carrying what. steviej
  13. dude, you're double posting and its getting confusing. just thought I would let you know. steviej
  14. I think they are also the Toyo Proxes TPT. Spetrum is a Toyo tire lower down on the totem pole. My guess it is similar to Bridgestone Potenza RE92, Michellin Symmetry, Goodyear Integrity. try here, www.toyo.com steviej
  15. The CD based manuals constantly on ebay are just compilations of PDF files. OK for basic stuff. You didn't mention you car year. The Haynes and Chilton manuals are actually very good for what the average shade tree mechanic will do in the driveway. I have always found them to be an added plus to the garage/basement library. Can't go wrong for 20 bucks. Pre 97 ES300 don't have a manual with them specifically in the title, the comprable year Camry should contain alot of the info or general pictures that may help....again, can't hurt--may help for only $20. Now, if you got the ducats, then go for the actual Lexus shop manual. Orderable through any Lexus parts counter or try www.lexus-parts.com they may have closeout pricing. The manuals for my '02 consist of 2 volumes each running about $150 USD. steviej
  16. SHAFT The bad guy drug dealer drove an LS400 or 430. steviej
  17. Lexol all the way. Don't bother with the Armor All leather wipes and the stuff like that, it will only help to age the leather. steviej
  18. run the numbers through www.kbb.com, www.vehix.com and www.edmunds.com see what they show for your area (keys off or zip code your put in), condition or the car, extras. Remeber to select resale (not trade in). steviej most definately run the VIN through www.carfax.com (this will cost you $14.95 for the official report).
  19. try www.lexus-parts.com and www.irontoad.com since this is not a commonly replaced part, it may involve filling out the description part of the website and waiting for a reply fro the parts guy. give it a try. steviej
  20. skp, funny you mentioned 20s. The tire guy wanted to do that. I thought I would look like an Audi Allroad, you know all jacked up in the air. I think I stick with the 18's for the summer. I am getting used to the ride, it is not as soft as the stock 16s'.......but I was told to expect this. The Toyos are a little noisier. Overall, lots of looks, and most of all, I like them. Alan, the spoiler was bought at and installed by my dealer. $650 BUT (there is always a but, but this is a good but) you can get the same exact spoiler, with mounting hardware, wiring, painted in factory Lexus paint, and shipped to your house for about $300 less from www.spoilerdepot.com. That is where the dealer gets them from. steviej check it out.
  21. PIAA Xtreme Whites. 55w with the power of 110w. 4100k, very very bright. BUT (there is always a but <_< ) very pricey, ~$70/pr. steviej
  22. I think this would be my answer. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/show....t/ST/f/7/t/1581 steviej
  23. I did this on this past Sat. I am getting used to the Proxes. They make more noise than the stock, but it corners like nobody's business. I feel the bumps more, but that was expected. I think I have to find others with low profile tires to see if I am missing something or if what I am feeling is expected. What do you guys think of the new look????? steviej
  24. This is the after: 18" chrome Enkei LM1/5S with Toyo Proxes FZ4 235/40-18s. (PS, how do you guys get pictures in your posts without the "download" file crap. I can't get the pic. itself, instead I always get a button to click on.)
  25. This is the before: 16" stock silver 9 spoke with Bridgestone Potenza RE92 215/60-16s.
