  1. it's a gimmic, like many of those "As seen on TV" items. A local auto mechanic in my area that has a syndicated talk show did an evaluation and he stated the only possible way to achieve any kind of enhancement from the Tornado is if the throttle was kept wide open at all times. (No possible way to do this in normal driving.) Other than that, the device will create more of an obstruction. steviej
  2. mobil 1 5W-30 and only that. I do not like the addition of any snake oils to the mix, never found it necessary nor found it worth it. sj
  3. i don't have any windows in my lab at work and my ES is 15 miles away from my work. :( so i taped up a few pics in my locker. :P B) :D steviej
  4. splipp: Where are you located? It is very cold, I mean very cold here in New England and that effects tire pressure. How much is your pressure down? Tires lose air at a rate of 1 psi per month and 1 psi per 10° drop in air temperature. Other than that it could be any number of things valve stem leaking, either from pin or from around the base. could be dirt imbedded in the bead. could be a nail or screw in the tread. could be a crack(s) in the rim(s). or my favorite, cause we just had a rash of it here, could be neighbor hood kids letting air out of tires as a practical joke. steviej
  5. this happens sometime upon first depression of the brake pedal when I am leaving the hospital parking garage. It only happens once when I hit the brakes and when the car is on a decline ramp. But then I can't get it to do it again after that. I just assumed it has something to do with the surface oxidation on the rotors making the braking send mixed messages to the ABS ECU. Haven't had any problems or quirks with the brakes other than that scenario. steviej
  6. that is what the store tells me. For the life of the bulb, they will replace it as long as you bought it at their store (any branch) and you are a "power card" holder. The power card is like the CVS Extra Care cards, that type of card, not a credit card. steviej
  7. I cannot help with the lens question, but I can offer a alternative suggestion. The stock H3 bulbs are pretty dull, as you have found out. Try a different bulb. I replaced the stocks with PIAA Xtreme White Plus H3 bulbs within a month of owning the car. The PIAA are 55w bulbs that cast the equivelant of 110w (according to the manufacturer). According to me, they where just brighter and did not harm the wiring at all. You may find these cheaper than lens replacements. just a suggestion. steviej
  8. Syl. Silverstars are a good pop for the buck (~$20-25 each). There is an auto store around Boston that if you carry their "power card", then the silverstars are replaced with no questions should they ever burn out. Another comprable bulb is the PIAA Xtreme White. A little higher in price (~$75/pr). steviej
  9. this is a duplicate thread and thus has been closed. The initial thread describing this item was moved to the Buying and Selling Forum. steviej
  10. anyone riding on Dunlop Sport A2's and if so what are your impressions. I am particularly interested in the performance in rain and light snow. Thanks for any input. Steviej
  11. if you are having a mechanic check your rear brakes have them check the emergency brake setup also. ES's have a drum in disc style e-brake set up. These tend to get crusty and rusty from lack of use. If it is not you rear brake pads, it may just be the e-brake mechanism needs a thorough cleaning. This was the case for a friend of mine's 96 ES. steviej
  12. superb color choice if I do say so myself. sj
  13. at any time did the discharge warning light come on (little red light, looks like a battery)? I agree with what was said, take it to autozone (or sears or NTB or PepBoys) and have the battery load tested in the car. They can tell if it is the battery or the alternator. All brands are not the same and you get what you pay for. Autozone's alternators are usually rebuilds or remans with a one year warranty. Find out if the one from Plano Lexus is new or reman. Either way, it is a very easy DIY install. If your alt. is going bad and it is the orginial, then you got almost 10 years out of it. You are ahead of the game. steviej
  14. inorder to not void the warranty, just save all your receipts and invoices. There are a few pages that discuss this in the owners manual. For example, oil changes, tire rotations, tranny flushes, etc. don't always have to be done by a Lexus dealership to keep the warranty intact. These manit. procesdures can be done by oneself, a Toyota Dealership, Jiffy Lube, Sears Automotive or an independent shop of your choice. steviej
  15. The warranty is bumper to bumper so push it. Use the customer satisfaction angle. The should take care of it, ask to spead with the service manager and general manager if you have too. timing belts should be replaced about 90k miles. There is nothing like a factory service manual if you can afford it. Check Ebay, sometimes these factory manual pop up there. I don't have any experiecne with the CD manuals on ebay, but have heard they are just a compilation of PDF files. The Hayes or chilton manual are a good investment for short money. steviej
  16. take them to a tire shop and have them apply some bead seal to them. It may slow the leak down. If it is really bad, then maybe it is time to replace the corroded rims. Your safety is riding on those rims. sj
  17. I'm talking bout the indicator line that appears when you are in a NEWREPLY box, or the log in box. The line that shows you where you are typing or where the text will appear that you type. Not the mouse cursor (arrowhead). I am embarrassed to say the green line/cursor is on two particular workstations at my work but the display controls will not change it. The workstation I am on today has a black line. So it is my work not LOC. steviej
  18. check your valve stems, it may be they leak at the base when the tire is really inflated and as it deflates the tires sag enough to close off the tiny leaks. sj
  19. exactly my thought!! sj
  20. 40k is just oil and filter change, rotation of tires and check of fluids. Will run you about $100-125. Very easily done at home for a fraction of the cost. sj
  21. I believe they speak of the passthough in the back seat, not the moonroof. So it would go from the trunk into the cabin. sj
  22. It was 12°F today in beantown, and my rattle of last year has not surfaced.....YET. Maybe it takes some time, but mine seems to have gone away. When in doubt, crank up the volume.. sj
  23. I have a complete Yakima roof rack system for my sea kayak (17"). The roof rack system can accomodate special racks for skis and for snowboards as well as many other options. This system is very sturdy and pleasing to the eye. http://www.yakima.com Another system is Thule, but I have no experience with theirs. steviej
  24. I must retract my previous post. The cursor here on my home computer is black and well seen. It must be the computers at my work. Sorry for the false alarm. steviej
  25. When posting, it is very hard to see the cursor. Mine is coming up as a flashing green line on the pale yellow background. mind you this is on my work computer, I forget if it is the same on my home computer. I have tried to reconfigure the color combinations on the display and I haven't been able to change the cursor for LOC. i have been able to change the colors on my work apps. If it is green for other people, may I suggest something more opposite the pale yellow, say black or blue. thanks, steviej
