  1. While I don't think it looks bad per se, I definitely don't think it looks "right." Sorry - but if you like it, that's really the only thing that matters.
  2. I would get quotes from other dealers (like Tom Wood Lexus) and show your dealer their quotes and ask for the same. If they do not work with you, I would make Lexus Corporate aware of the drastic price difference. I could not be happier with the way the dealer in Indy works with me. They have never suggested services outside of the owner’s manual, and when I request something specific they always respond with accurate detail – for what I generally deem to be a reasonable price.
  3. Too funny!! I just asked my dealer the EXACT same question today! See their response below. I am in for the $240 as I have near that amount of points value on my Lexus Pursuits card. Good Afternoon Matt! Replacing engine oil & oil filter, topping off fluids, correcting tire pressures, rotating tires, brake fluid flush and complete safety inspection is about $240.00. So let me know when you would like to have the services scheduled. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your day. Shanan -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Sent: Wed 3/10/2010 8:34 AM To: Subject: 30k Mile Service Hello, Hope this finds you both doing well. I have 27k on my ES so this e-mail is to inquire about the 30k service. The 30k was not part of my purchase agreement so I am e-mailing about cost. I have completed all items listed in the owner’s manual for “30k Service” at or near 20k miles, e.g. engine air filter, cabin air filter, etc. The only items I seem to need to have completed at 30k are the items listed in blue below (and I think we should replace the locking lug nuts with ‘normal’ lug nuts, as the locking nuts are rusting again….I will just take my chances with the thief’s)! Obviously I would like your service techs to do a brief inspection on the car and tell me if an axle is about to fall off or anything (but I think this is included in a normal service(?), and brake pad thickness – but I see no point in requesting the 30k service. Please let me know if I am missing something and please quote me a price for the items listed below in blue – plus the lug nut replacement (which should be under warranty). Thanks!
  4. I have had an ES, IS, HS, and RX. I like them all except the IS - if I were short, maybe that car would be acceptable. Tom Wood Lexus in Indy keeps their cars as clean as possible when lending them out to folks. I have always been very happy.
  5. Adopting a cat from the pound might even be cheaper than the dryer sheets? I am not sure "keepings animals out of the car" is part of the design process at Lexus - or any auto manufacturer. If it is, it is certainly news to me.
  6. A new Lexus should not squeak when you start it - period. If your service advisor says it is ‘normal,’ then speak to someone else – maybe the service manager. Just make sure they are aware you will keep bringing the car back until the issue is resolved. I would also point out that when they say things that are absurd (e.g. a new Lexus squeaks and it is normal), they know you think they are full of S. I have found that if I don't point this out to folks (in different circumstances in life) people may think you believe them; when they are clear you don’t, issues seem to be resolved more quickly.
  7. This is in addition to what SW said about your first question. It is both that the engine is idling at a higher RPM at lower temps AND the car shifting into first gear right before you stop that creates the sensation that the car is "jumping" forward. I don’t think there is anything wrong with this, but it is definitely something I notice more with the 350 as it hits 1st gear just before you stop completely.
  8. Just repetitive at this point, but I would NEVER buy a loaner!
  9. If it's under warranty, I would take it to the dealer. If it isn't, I would take it to the dealer - or wait for some more responses.
  10. OMG that Lincoln interior looks hideous! Look at that fat patch of black seat controls on the tan leather seat. I would exit the car stage left, immediately, if I saw that in person. I sat in a Genesis and thought the leather felt really cheap/thin? (Like the ES350!) Do they put cheaper leather in the lesser Genesis'? I like the looks of the Genesis – I don’t like that the front doesn’t have he “H;” reminds me of going to a friend’s house and them asking “Hey, want a Mountain Dew(?)” and them handing me a “Green Lightening.” Hyundai has a long way to go in the brand image dept. Just own your former-cheapassness and change it and make it better, don’t try to bamboozle me by leaving your italic “H” in the parts bin.
  11. I had the oil line, floor mats and gas pedal recall completed on Friday. Here are some thoughts: 1. I like the gas pedal better now, as it is shorter. Not sure if it is due to my size 13 shoe or what, but it feels better to me. 2. No thoughts on the oil line. 3. The new floor mats look nothing like the rear mats/old mats. They are almost perfectly smooth with no “lip” on the sides, which will render them useless when it comes to snow/containing liquid. I was very disappointed when I first saw them. They also say “Lexus ES” now, instead of “Lexus.” 4. The new mats will be easier to clean, as they are smooth.
  12. When I took my car in today for the new gas pedal and floor mats I saw the oil line on the "to do" list. I didn't need to say anything about it – apparently they are very aware of the issue.
  13. If this is a systemic issue I imagine Lexus would make owners aware of the problem, and fix it. I personally have not heard of this until now. If my engine goes out before 50,000 miles and I have all of my service records - no skin off my teeth, replace away! ;)
  14. Congrats on the new car! You will love it. Sorry about it getting hit – that is a horrible feeling when your car is bran new. I certainly hope it wasn’t Snooki that hit you - being that she is on the loose in Jersey.
  15. My dealer just called and told me the new mats would be in next week - so I scheduled my appointment since she said they need to perform the “gas pedal modification.” I asked if that was a temp fix until a new gas pedal arrived and she said “no, that is the final fix.” She also said “the mats cover the same area and are the same color - they are just a lot thinner." We shall see. If they don’t match - Step 1: Cut a hole in a box.
  16. I think since I have already changed the filters I will ask them to perform a normal oil change/tire rotation plus replace the brake fluid and remote battery. I expect them to generally “inspect” the car whenever it is in their shop. I am all about preventative maintenance as well, but if I can replace the air filters within seconds there is no reason to pay them to do it.
  17. Is that a "yes it does need changed" or a "no it doesn't need changed." ;)
  18. Sorry if this post is redundant. My next service will be my 30k – as you all know the dealers charge about $500 for this service. I replaced both my cabin and engine air filters at 20k miles. The other 30k mile items in the owner’s manual are “change engine oil/filter – rotate tires” and “brake fluid replacement” and then about 75 inspections. I think they inspect the car on the normal service intervals so I am not concerned about this. My questions are, should I just tell them to replace the brake fluid and perform a normal service (?) and does the brake fluid even need replaced at 30k? Any thoughts or options would be appreciated.
  19. I think it depends on your driving style and situation. The brake pads (all around) start at 11mm and they a recommended to be replaced at 4mm. I have 25k miles on my 08 and I have 8mm remaining all around. I drive 75% in the city as well which means my original pads are on target to make it 45+k miles before needing replaced. A lot of folks have complained about the pads wearing out quickly though.
  20. When my car was in for service last week my dealer said the new floor mats had not been released and they were not completing the 'fix' on the gas pedal as of yet. Does anyone have the new mats, or know anything about their status? What about the gas pedal correction? Just curious.
  21. Although I am warming up to the '10 - I saw a Starfire driving around with a couple blue-hairs yesterday and the only word that came to mind was "busy." With the more ornate taillights, the chrome on the side mirrors, the chrome at the bottom of the doors, the chrome fog lights.... (at least on the Starfire, which is a must for me) it just looked too busy. $43k didn’t seem all that insane to me after sitting in a comparable 5-series that was about $60k.
  22. I am positive it was a 2010. It was $43+K - the most expensive one I can build online is just over $40k. It was clearly an Ultra Luxury, but it was definitely a 2010. Someone else chime in here - I'm not crazy, right? <_<
  23. I just looked at a '10 on my dealer's lot and it had the ML sound system....
  24. Sorry to hear that story. Things like that never seem to happen when one is driving around in an old beater - it is always the bran-new car!! Jeeze.
  25. How do the new ones look? Are they that much different?
