Title attorney I do business with has one, and has had a bunch of them. Never a bad thing to say about them...
-
Well...so much for that. I finally figured out what the issue with these payments is. One, the car she quoted me on and the car she has are different, the car I want has an MSRP of $38,285, and thats what I was quoted, here is the email: In addition to that we qualify for a $500 rebate because my wife is enrolled in a graduate program, so the final price would be $32,289 right? This is what the asterisk next to the price reads: The car she actually has is $38,985 and has more equipment. And get this, that "Manufacturer's Rebate" is a military rebate that obviously I don't qualify for. Now...what in this price quote or the fine print would lead me to believe that was a military rebate? So I told her that I thought that was a little bit below board, obviously the goal of that email quote is to get the buyer into HER dealership and once there you can shoehorn them into whatever you do have in stock, and once they're there in the office, you can explain the $1k rebate is a military rebate and pressure them to sign anyways. And to top it off, she's rude, curt, unapologetic...no customer service at all. Truthfully, its soured me on the whole thing, I think I'm just going to shelve it.

LOL, gee thanks! Its actually at the shop now, dropped it off Friday, should be all done by the time we get back from the beach...
-
I do remember actually! Yeah I'm sure it'll turn out fine...
-
Hahaha! Good point! We go probably once a year, we'll get together one of these days!

So I figured out what she was calculating incorrectly, she sent me the specifics, the special Jeep lease is a 45% residual, and a .75% interest rate. Well, if you plug those figures with an MSRP of $38,285 and a sales price of $32,200 into a lease calculator you get $460. But...she's coming up with $555. She must be calculating the residual off the sales price not the MSRP, when you put those figures into the calculator you get what she's talking about. So I send her an email saying "I see where we're apart" and I lay out all the numbers for her, the MSRP, the capitalized cost, the residual value, the finance charges on the depreciation, and how it arrives at my figure of $460, not her figure of $555. Then I explain how she must have calculated the lease using the residual off of the capitalized cost. Then at the end I closed by saying that I did go get a Carmax appraisal on our Prius and that we're very close to having all the information we need to make a decision and go forward. So...she emails me back this morning and says "I got your email, I wasn't taking your trade into account in the figures I quoted you, please come by the dealer and we can look over everything" DID YOU LOOK AT THE NUMBERS IN MY EMAIL?!? Nowhere did I say anything about any trade except at the end that I had a valuation done. Now she's thinking the reason my lease is lower than her calculation is because of my trade...How can you sell cars and not know approximately what the lease and finance payments are going to be?!? How can she not see that $555 per month at that price for a lease doesn't make any sense?!? Is she stupid? Why doesn't she just use a lease calculator? And...like I told her 4 times I live 50 MILES from the dealer. I'm not going to come in unless I'm coming in to drive off with the vehicle. Jesus...it has me about ready to can the whole thing. They open at noon, I'm going to call her today and see if maybe we can get on the same page over the phone.
-
Well...we really don't NEED an SUV lol, really we need to do this whole transaction like we need a hole in the head. But...thats never stopped me before LOL. Just got a Carmax valuation on the Prius for about $10k, which was better than I expected from them. So we'll see what the Jeep dealer offers me. I'm sure I could sell it myself for $11k or 12k if Carmax is willing to give me $10k. I think part of the problem is that the salespeople don't know what they're talking about. For instance, the one guy kept saying "Leases are real complicated, come in and I'll explain it to you" even after I told him I've leased several vehicles in the past and am very familiar with leasing. The funniest thing was when I told him that I don't know if I would lease it or buy it, but I wanted to see what the lease option was he says "Quoting these payments is very time consuming, especially when you say you probably won't do it". Um, when did I say I "probably won't do it", and how can I decide if I want to do it if you can't quote me an accurate lease deal?" Moron. The woman who has the $32,200 price was asked the same question, and she came back with lease payments of $555 which is obviously wrong, and $100 more per month than the estimator at Jeep.com. That would be about what the payment would be to buy it and finance it for 60 months at that price. As opposed to getting into it with her I just asked her for the residual and money factor and I'll calculate it myself. Again, every email she sends she closes with "When can you come in, drive the Jeep and we'll sit down and talk about it?". Every time I tell her "I appreciate that, but since I'm 45 miles away and have already driven the Jeep a dozen times I'd like to know what the options are, and even choose an option before coming in. If I drive 90 miles round trip, its going to be simply to sign the paperwork and drive off, not just to "talk". ...and she's the "Internet sales manager!" shouldn't she understand the Internet consumer? I mean...I basically told both these people if they get me the info I want, I can use that to make a decision, and I'll be down to sign the paperwork. I know the financing option, now I know what my trade is worth, now I need to know the lease option and I'll have all the info I need and can make a decision. So frustrating... The Lexus salespeople were totally different. I negotiated the deal for the ES350 on my Blackberry while sitting on the beach.
-
Hahahaha! Maybe so! I've gotten a bunch of internet quotes from different dealers, seems I can match the original deal of just under $34k all over town. I responded to the guy who was at $32k but haven't heard back yet...thats definitely an outlier so I'm skeptical... Unfortunately the first guy is the only guy that has exactly what I want. He really *BLEEP*ed me off though, kept trying to get me into the dealer instead of answering my simple questions, which as a salesman I understand, finally I just said "Look, this is how I buy cars. Before I set foot in the dealership I'm going to have the price figured out, the financing figured out, the trade figured out, and I'm just going to walk in and sign the paperwork. I'm not going to go and sit at the dealership for 5 hours while all these numbers and options are thrown around and choose one without analyzing it first to decide which way I want to go. If that doesn't work for you, it'll work for somebody." I haven't heard back from him. I'm tempted to go get this thing this weekend and drive it to the beach ;)

Eh, whatever rental I would have wouldn't be any better than the Prius probably lol. We're going to Ocean City... Yeah I took lots of pictures Smooth...
-
WELL...apparently its been a long time since I bought an American car. The guy I was dealing with *BLEEP*ed me off, so I started looking around at other dealer's inventories and the prices I was getting were all not as good as this guy's price. I got some $37ks...some $36ks, etc. Then, I get a response from a guy tonight...$32,200. I'll follow up with him tomorrow to be sure its legit, but it looks pretty legit. So Josh, I stand corrected!

I mean, it has to make sense. The Jeep optioned the way I want it is $38,285. Invoice is $36.095. Edmunds TMV pricing is $35,937. My offer is $33,974. $32k on this Jeep would be $4,000 under invoice, thats 11% under dealer cost. I have been on the Jeep forums and I have NEVER heard of anybody getting a deal like that.

Finally Got Out From Under Those Crooks Called Verizon
SW03ES replied to ArmyofOne's topic in The Club Lounge
But to call them crooks? Why should they be cheaper? They seem to have plenty of customers. People are free to do as you did, to move on to a different carrier if they don't want to pay. Its a free market economy baby. You have to understand, when they sell you a phone that retails for $600 for $100, or give you a phone for free, they have to lock you into a contract to be sure they don't get screwed for the discount they gave you. If they allow you to suspend your service and not pay while you are deployed thats great, but why would anybody assume that they would not also suspend the time remaining on your contract? They're not making any money off of you, and remember they gave you that big discount on your phone. As for why is there a disconnect fee, again...they gave you a multi-hundred dollar discount on the phone...so there has to be some protection for them that you aren't going to just hop to some other carrier as soon as they have a phone you want. Its higher for smartphones because smartphone users tend to be early adopters and quicker to leave for a new model only available on another carrier. Plus...the discount they gave you on that smartphone was a lot of money...a lot more than on some cheap flip phone. Plus, you can get Verizon service with no contract, or with a 1 year contract instead of two, you're just going to pay more for the phone upfront. Verizon has prepaid services also... As for your overage...you reduced the minutes and went over. Not their fault. Anyways, had you called them and told them your situation, they would have at least split the overage charges with you if you upgraded back to the old plan for one month. Its happened to me before too... So...I just don't see how Verizon are crooks. Its a premium service that costs more, by your own admission you got Verizon because they were the only provider who was reliable and worked... You made the right decision for you and that was smart, but don't deride Verizon because its services weren't what you needed ;) -
I don't know that I buy that Josh...for a 4x4 or a 4x2? $32k would be over $3,000 under invoice, which just doesn't make any sense, they'd be loosing money on the vehicle. Bear in mind too this is a Laredo X with $1,200 worth of options on top of the X package, the sunroof id $800 and the nav is $400.

Rx400H "push Button Start" On Japan Models?
SW03ES replied to cduluk's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
I just saw that link Maseace posted...thats AWESOME! I wonder how well it works? -
Yeah she was great, very apologetic gave me no problems. Happened yesterday and its already all set to go into the shop tomorrow afternoon, they should have it back by the time I get back from the beach. Sucks we have to take the Prius to the beach though LOL
-
And the dealer farms it out to a private detailer, they just double what they're paying him and charge you that... I recently had a small scuff on a wheel fixed at the dealer. I called the guy they recommended and he asked me if I was at the dealer for service and I said no. He did it for me for cash...presumably what the dealer pays him...$30. Had I booked it through the dealer and paid the dealer? $150. He did it right there on the dealer lot too...we just cut out the middleman.

Rx400H "push Button Start" On Japan Models?
SW03ES replied to cduluk's topic in 04 - 09 Lexus RX330 / RX350 / RX400h
I think this works like the older Toyota SKS system CD... On the Prius it has the same slot, but thats only if the SKS system is turned off (there's a button on the dash) or the battery in the key is dead. Normally you'd just leave that slot empty and use the key as you would think it would be used. Much like the BMW system LEXI mentioned, if the Prius is not optioned with SKS it has the same key, put you have to put it in the dash to activate the system and push the button. I have a coworker who has an '07 BMW X5 that is this way, it doesn't have a smart key and the key has to be inserted before the button can be pressed, but her '08 335 has the smart key, and while it has the slot the key doesn't have to be put in there. On my 2010 ES350 the slot is gone, you simply hold the key up to the dash next to the button if the battery is dead. All new Toyotas are the same way. See the attached pictures of the keys, first is of the Prius, see the small rectangle on the side? Theres a lock in the slot that pops into these rectangles on the side when the key is inserted. The key for the non-SKS Prius is the same, only the Toyota logo is simply pressed into the key instead of being metal as it is on my key. Here's the slot and the POWER button on the Prius...see, same slot... Here's the key for the Lexus, see how the design is different since it no longer has to go into a slot? So these Japanese RX's simply use the old Toyota SKS system. My guess is this would be INCREDIBLY expensive to add... -
I would take the Yokos back and get the Primacys. The only tire I'd put on the car. Its very easy, simply go buy a digital pressure gauge from any auto parts store, remove the valve step cap, and follow the instructions that come with the gauge. I bet your tires are 10-15lbs over inflated. They should be 30PSI.

Nice huh? In my parking garage at work. At least she left a note. We're leaving for vacation on Monday too, was planning on taking the Lexus...but it'll be in the shop being repaired while we're gone instead... got lucky all things considered. Damage is mainly to the bumper, small scuff along the edge of the fender they think they ban buff out, but the lamps and all are undamaged.
-
Nice! I'm jealous ;) I have ours all picked out, the dark green color with the black interior, Laredo X model. I got a quote for what seems like a good price...MSRP is $38,285 offer is $33,900. Thats like $1600 below invoice...

Finally Got Out From Under Those Crooks Called Verizon
SW03ES replied to ArmyofOne's topic in The Club Lounge
I don't quite understand what your qualm is with Verizon though...despite their service being expensive, what did they do wrong? How are they crooks? I have Verizon and my bill is $235 a month by the way, so I know they're expensive. -
Have you driven the M37? Its a great car, very underrated. I wouldn't even consider a Lexus GS compared to this car. The LS is pretty old at this point, and the 7 is really expensive...
-
Honestly? I can't say Toyota makes a product in any of those categories I think is a better vehicle than their choices...
-
To put this into perspective, this is an old crash test video of a DeLorean in a 35MPH crash into a stationary object: Now, obviously the vehicle is old but the crash forces are obvious...this vehicle has greater than $9,000 in damage. Its totaled. Here's a modern car, also at 35MPH...you can see the same thing, significant damage, engine drops out of the mounts to the floor, front suspension is pushed back into the firewall. This car is totaled, doesn't have simply $9k in repairs. My guess is you were really going far less than 35MPH when you hit the truck, below the speed threshold where the airbags are beneficial.
-
Did you have any professionals assess the vehicle and the crash scene and determine that in that particular crash the airbags should have deployed? Were you wearing a seatbelt? Did you hit the truck head on or off center? Do you have any pictures of your vehicle after the accident? How do you know you were really going 30-35MPH? Is that your recollection or have crash investigators informed you that was the speed you were traveling? I ask because, all things considered $9,000 is not a tremendous amount of damage for the vehicle to sustain when striking a stopped semi-truck at 30-35 MPH. You would expect the vehicle to be totaled. The airbags do not ALWAYS go off, there is a sophisticated set of algorithms and accelerometers that determine depending on different crash forces and angles whether the airbags should deploy or not. Airbags themselves are very violent and if they deploy without the right set of parameters they can do more harm than good. I'm not saying that this was or wasn't the case here, I'm just saying its likely...we just need more info to know. If the driver is unbelted I don't know if modern airbags will deploy at all... Car strikes a stationary object at 35MPH...with enough force to cause significant injury to a presumably belted driver, yet the car isn't totaled and just needed $9,000 worth of repairs and the airbags never deployed? Something doesn't add up.
